@inconsp1cuous1515 Um, you missed the mark. Jesus was God while on earth. As for no sacrifice, when you receive that sacrifice for yourself, you will understand and appreciate it. Otherwise, you have no received that sacrifice so this is true.....It is no sacrifice for you personally.
@bloodbought091 "I sacrificed myself ONLY for christians -- and let the others rot if theyre born in the wrong culture -- and let it be recorded 30-40 years later by a bunch of idiots who call themselves scholars" sounds convincing.
Dont create moral laws if you also have to sacrifice someone for your creation breaking them... I mean... what kind of terribly unethical business model is this? Most of gods creation will go to hell. They will suffer in hell longer than their time spent on earth. I DIDNT CHOSE TO BE BORN, NOR AM I GRATEFUL FOR LIFE IF I WILL WIND UP IN HELL. "Just chose jesus as your savior." Well again, most people don't because of geography or other religions. You can't deny that which you dont believe.
This is a perfect demonstration of Friel's arrogance, unpreparedness, and stupidity. Had he taken the time to read a single page that Hitchens has ever written, he would have known that the routine, scripted, and unimaginative tactics employed by he and his cronies (Cameron and Comfort) would have failed miserably; as they did. A: They're not. They're sheep, just like the religious nuts they claim to be so "intellectually superior" to.
this frail guy is so annoying. the only thing he has to say to the fine points being made by mr. hitchens is, uh huh, mm hmm. please. it's obvious that he's not interested in hearing logic or reason. he's only interested in spewing biblical nonsense. i think that they must teach in church that logic and reason are evil. which is an example of how religion poisons everything.
Haha Friel gets owned on every point, but on the last one, he basically asks, do you not believe in a God because you want free will, and Hitchens agrees, he gets excited!
I find it amazing how Christians, like Friel, amidst all the anger and hate from athiests, can still be kind, caring and loving towards those who devote their life to hating them.
I love how Christians hold up the sacrifice of Jesus as some sort of ultimate act of kindness, yet he was just resurrected and pretty much became god, or next to god. That is no sacrifice. Thankfully Hitchens sort of addressed that.
@moomen10 Really? So if you push someone out of the way of a moving vehicle and take the hit, it's not an act of kindness? In the ER you die on the table but are resuscitated. The fact that you heal months later and are perfectly fine disqualifies what you "sacrificed" as an act of kindness? Duly noted.
Btw, Jesus already was God (since birth) during the crucifixion according to the Bible.
@DondeEsSu It's not an act of kindness if you are unduly indebted to the person who saved you. Most free men would rather die than become a slave. I think that's Hitchens' point.
@DondeEsSu Jesus was already god from birth? Then his sacrifice was definitely not kindness, its damage control via the most obscure means possible at best. Condemning individuals to eternal torture simply for being born a human and then offering exemption by belief that he made a sacrifice for you in an area without reliable documentation combined with ridiculous ass-backwards fantasy stories? Oh how kind!
Aside from being a ludicrous hypothetical case, one needs to keep in mind standards of judging aren't very consistent throughout the bible. Works, not works, just faith, both, ... the Mosaic law doesn't count, the Mosaic law does count with no exceptions, Mosaic law counts with exceptions and alterations. Perhaps the host should have come to a consensus on what judging method is used. If faith just matters, pretty much everybody would go to hell, including Christians...
Todd, what if the world is indeed controlled by Panda Po living in the center of the earth, who loves you, gives you food, clothing and everything by making earth rotate and disembowels himself underground everyday so you can feel his love? Let's assume it is true, would you feel shameful that you have ignored Po's deepest love and prayed to the false god of Jesus all the time?
"Aren't I clever? I hope to trip you up by saying "what if" to everything. And I can audibly dominate the conversation with my put-upon "radio voice" enhanced with the wonder of modern audio technology. Even with this considerable "home field advantage" I run into a guest who not only refuses to play my idiotic game, but runs over my "points" with aplomb!" But damn, don't I sound GREAT?"
Why on earth do Christians believe in human sacrifice? Can't we realize that cycle of animal sacrifice that Jesus supposedly ended was complete folly to begin with? The irony of it all is that most Christians would look ritual human sacrifice in the Aztec culture and see it as barbaric and pointless. If your brain hasn't been poisoned by religion, it's clear that the sacrifice is in no way related to the sins you've committed.
@SoldierForGod773 LOL... showing there is a god by conducting a silly interview with retarded questions? Shit... you're right, I'm convinced... I'm off to by a bible.
I think Wretched Radio is the perfect name for this show. It is absolutely wretched. This ass clown should be groveling on his hands and knees that someone with the stature of Christopher Hitchens gave him the time of day. What a loser Todd Friel is.
Christians are so smug. Friel thinks he's clever but he's clearly an imbecile who's far in over his head intellectually. He keeps the silly "gameshow" fascade up as a way to not have to engage Hitchens in a serious manner. He knows Hitch would make mincemeat of him.
Ugh, Friel...He doesn't quite realize how many of his questions are circular. The claim that Hitchens disbelieves so he can live without responsibility to his creator assumes the very thing he's trying to prove, that Hitchens knows god exists. Most of his other questions about god presuppose that his beliefs about the god and the Bible are true as well. This is why the label "irrational" is pinned on believers so often.
What this idiot fails to understand is that anytime Hitchens references any scenario involving the existence of god, he is already speaking hypothetically.
It's interesting that the host completely blocks out everything that Hitchens says and pretends it a worthless comment in a sort of "I CAN'T HEAR YOU I CAN'T HEAR YOU" mmhmm mmhmm mmhmm mmhmm and move instantly into what he wants to say. "It never mentions hell in the old testament and it wasn't until gentle jesus mentioned eternal torture that the idea came about:" "mmhmm"
This Friel guy needs to control his fantasies. He's all over the place in public with his unrestrained ID, and IMO he'll come to regret that one day. Other people aren't playthings even when you're playing a game with them. The fact that he doesn't get that is bizarre and beyond unseemly, even in his "pretend" game. Hitchens gets it clearly, as could any sentient above the age of 13 or so. Just my $.02.
What a complete fucking idiot Friel is. he keeps reminding Hitchens that he must admit to the hypothetical and Hitchens is constantly ahead of him by a mile. Friel simply cannot comprehend that someone has a different viewpoint than himself. The supreme arrogance of the christian mind astounds and disgusts me.
@13stevejohnson Actually, as far as I know Limbaugh has a standing rule to never discuss religion on his program. Of course that may have changed, I haven't listened to the man in forever.
@MrMZaccone You make good points about Friel Zaccone. What bothers me about your statement (with all due respect) is that you lump all Christians together with your statement "the supreme arrogance of the christian mind". I am a Christian and I also do not like Friel's way of thinking and speaking. It's wrong IMO. However, I would not categorize atheist as all being the same, nor would I Whites, Blacks, Chinese, etc... Agree? Or am I missing something?
@fletchdrebon You are indeed missing something. First, you've made a massive category error. White, Black, Chinese ... none of these is a belief system or lack of one. Christian, Atheist ... these are inherently belief system or in the case of Atheism sometimes a lack of one. The christian and atheist mind can indeed be characterized, unlike the White, Black, or Asian mind The fact that you lumped it in with race is exactly the kind of flawed thinking I'm talking about.
@MrMZaccone I disagree. You did it again. You are saying that all Christians think alike because of a belief system. I say it's no different than saying all blacks think alike because of cultural influences, shared experiences, etc... Obviously not all blacks think alike just as all Christians don't. As I said, Friel is a joke to me (maybe I am to him) but we would be call ourselves Christians. Savvy?
@fletchdrebon No, YOU did it again. Christianity is a belief system, therefore to at least that extent, all christians think alike or you couldn't use the word "christian" to describe them. Being black is not a belief system, it's a race, completely independent of a belief system.
@MrMZaccone Saying all Christians think alike shows a level of ignorance that I don't imagine you have. There are many different thoughts inside of Christianity that vary drastically (hence the many denominations). Not only that, as I'm sure you know, many people claim Christianity but are not really practicing the faith. Most races share common values and ways of thinking that bring them together (ever hear of BET?). The fact that I disagree with Friel is proof we dont think alike.
@fletchdrebon "Most races share common values and ways of thinking that bring them together" WOW! and you call my statements ignorant? I'm done talking to you, you're a prime example of what I'm talking about and you've demonstrated it over and over in this conversation.
@MrMZaccone Absolutely...I stand by that statement. It's especially true in other countries. I would leave the debate too if I were you... That's the other wierd thing about me that makes me different...I would love to be having this debate face to face so I could see how brave you were.
@fletchdrebon ROFLMFAO!!! I live in Corry, PA. ... When you get close, post back and we can see what bravery is all about. Until then, keyboard warrior. Honestly, are you that fucking stupid and so insecure that you have to back your ideas up with veiled threats of violence? Once again, you've demonstrated the CLASSIC christian mentality.
@MrMZaccone "Veiled threats of violence" I was referring to our verbal debate and your tone you were taking...but it's pointless to argue with you. You missed my point again...typical you. Anyhow, your veiled response of telling me where u live and to stop by was pretty embarrassing, knowing full well that will never happen. Keyboard warriors (which are plenty) usually say they are going to kick your a__ or something of the sort. Also, ROFLMFAO...are u a little girl?
@fletchdrebon If you were referring to a verbal debate then why bring up bravery? Pointless to argue with me? Try actually fielding a rational argument next time and it might not be pointless. If it will never happen then why did you suggest it? You're an idiot. Go away.
@MrMZaccone LOL...was going through my comments and saw you had replied. I am still pretty embarrassed for you telling me what town you live in and stop by and "fight you". That's like the kid who waits for his friends to hold him back then goes crazy once they're there. Sad really.
@fletchdrebon What's sad it that in typical fashion, you've misquoted me. I never said any such thing. Another classic Christian tactic, making up a quote, taken in this case to the extreme.
@fletchdrebon dang zaccone...you just waiting on the keyboard for comments? LOL...I just sent that. Crazy boy. Anyhow, to your point about putting words in your mouth...uhhh maybe. I thought you implied to come by your hometown and look you up. Maybe you meant for tea and cookies. If so, I like Earl Grey.
this game is stupid-obviously if one is to "assume" that God exists and the bible is true and that jesus died for your sins, then wouldn't anyone "assume" that it would be correct to worship jesus? i don understand how thats a game, its more like circular reasoning.
Imagine getting that intellectually battered by someone and not even realizing it? I think Friel actually thought he came out on top. I hope he reads these comments which seem to almost 100% agree he got slaughtered at his own game, with his own rules, attacking a guy who was tied and blidfolded to a post.
This interview is a goldmine! Friel managed to give Hitchens every opportunity to trash his hypotheticals, as if he didn't have access to Hitchens' body of work! If the interviewer intended to take Hitch down a few notches, he only managed a 15-minute round of pious flagellation. (to the amusement of us all)
Todd Friel is such a half-wit. He is so clearly out of his league with Hitchens, i actually feel embarrassed for him. He has no clue how to interview or engage in meaningful debate with someone of an opposing view. Instead, he is only capable of regurgitating Ray Comfort's Ten Commandment approach to evangelism which comes off sounding like a tone-deaf Amway pitch. Hitchens exhibited incredible patience with this blowhard.

Todd is well aware that Hitchens is a well known public intellectual, yet seems to suppose that he is a stupid person. "Been celebrated for a couple of thousand years" as if Hitchens was unaware of that fact.
I get sick of people like Todd. He thinks he is so smart and that he has outwitted Hitchens when presenting his questions. In fact Hitchens is thinking not one but several steps further than Todd. I hate when it happens when I meet people in real life as well; people who think they're smart but are anything but.
"Look. I have a quite long discussion of this in my book. You are not trying anything on me that's original or all that daring or playful. I baked that assumption and examined it in my book.....please look it up and please encourage your listeners to do likewise." lulz
@Kaldmigtue No what he is doing is classic EVASION. These are not straight up answers... he is going off in tangents, and no one asked him all of that. *pressed*
@divinelynaptural Hitchens answered every question. The host is ignoring his answers.
This is typical of a debate with theists. They give hit and run questions and then refuse to listen or even acknowledge the answers. The only reason for asking the questions is to try to get the other person to trip up one way or another. It's completely dishonest.
Is the host retarded?

I find it amazing how Christians, like Friel, amidst all the anger and hate from athiests, can still be kind, caring and loving towards those who devote their life to hating them.

Sayaannnnn 5 months ago

DondeEsSu 3 months ago
@DondeEsSu It's not an act of kindness if you are unduly indebted to the person who saved you. Most free men would rather die than become a slave. I think that's Hitchens' point.
Learnerwp 3 months ago

Let's assume it is true, would you feel shameful that you have ignored Po's deepest love and prayed to the false god of Jesus all the time?

Why on earth do Christians believe in human sacrifice? Can't we realize that cycle of animal sacrifice that Jesus supposedly ended was complete folly to begin with? The irony of it all is that most Christians would look ritual human sacrifice in the Aztec culture and see it as barbaric and pointless. If your brain hasn't been poisoned by religion, it's clear that the sacrifice is in no way related to the sins you've committed.

Christians are so smug. Friel thinks he's clever but he's clearly an imbecile who's far in over his head intellectually. He keeps the silly "gameshow" fascade up as a way to not have to engage Hitchens in a serious manner. He knows Hitch would make mincemeat of him.
leemutart 7 months ago 8
Ugh, Friel...He doesn't quite realize how many of his questions are circular. The claim that Hitchens disbelieves so he can live without responsibility to his creator assumes the very thing he's trying to prove, that Hitchens knows god exists. Most of his other questions about god presuppose that his beliefs about the god and the Bible are true as well. This is why the label "irrational" is pinned on believers so often.

MrMZaccone 3 months ago
@MrMZaccone You make good points about Friel Zaccone. What bothers me about your statement (with all due respect) is that you lump all Christians together with your statement "the supreme arrogance of the christian mind". I am a Christian and I also do not like Friel's way of thinking and speaking. It's wrong IMO. However, I would not categorize atheist as all being the same, nor would I Whites, Blacks, Chinese, etc... Agree? Or am I missing something?
fletchdrebon 3 months ago
@fletchdrebon You are indeed missing something. First, you've made a massive category error. White, Black, Chinese ... none of these is a belief system or lack of one. Christian, Atheist ... these are inherently belief system or in the case of Atheism sometimes a lack of one. The christian and atheist mind can indeed be characterized, unlike the White, Black, or Asian mind The fact that you lumped it in with race is exactly the kind of flawed thinking I'm talking about.
MrMZaccone 3 months ago
@MrMZaccone I disagree. You did it again. You are saying that all Christians think alike because of a belief system. I say it's no different than saying all blacks think alike because of cultural influences, shared experiences, etc... Obviously not all blacks think alike just as all Christians don't. As I said, Friel is a joke to me (maybe I am to him) but we would be call ourselves Christians. Savvy?
fletchdrebon 3 months ago
@fletchdrebon No, YOU did it again. Christianity is a belief system, therefore to at least that extent, all christians think alike or you couldn't use the word "christian" to describe them. Being black is not a belief system, it's a race, completely independent of a belief system.
MrMZaccone 3 months ago
@MrMZaccone Saying all Christians think alike shows a level of ignorance that I don't imagine you have. There are many different thoughts inside of Christianity that vary drastically (hence the many denominations). Not only that, as I'm sure you know, many people claim Christianity but are not really practicing the faith. Most races share common values and ways of thinking that bring them together (ever hear of BET?). The fact that I disagree with Friel is proof we dont think alike.
fletchdrebon 3 months ago
@fletchdrebon "Most races share common values and ways of thinking that bring them together" WOW! and you call my statements ignorant? I'm done talking to you, you're a prime example of what I'm talking about and you've demonstrated it over and over in this conversation.
MrMZaccone 3 months ago
@MrMZaccone Absolutely...I stand by that statement. It's especially true in other countries. I would leave the debate too if I were you... That's the other wierd thing about me that makes me different...I would love to be having this debate face to face so I could see how brave you were.
fletchdrebon 3 months ago
@fletchdrebon ROFLMFAO!!! I live in Corry, PA. ... When you get close, post back and we can see what bravery is all about. Until then, keyboard warrior. Honestly, are you that fucking stupid and so insecure that you have to back your ideas up with veiled threats of violence? Once again, you've demonstrated the CLASSIC christian mentality.
MrMZaccone 3 months ago
@MrMZaccone "Veiled threats of violence" I was referring to our verbal debate and your tone you were taking...but it's pointless to argue with you. You missed my point again...typical you. Anyhow, your veiled response of telling me where u live and to stop by was pretty embarrassing, knowing full well that will never happen. Keyboard warriors (which are plenty) usually say they are going to kick your a__ or something of the sort. Also, ROFLMFAO...are u a little girl?
fletchdrebon 3 months ago
@fletchdrebon If you were referring to a verbal debate then why bring up bravery? Pointless to argue with me? Try actually fielding a rational argument next time and it might not be pointless. If it will never happen then why did you suggest it? You're an idiot. Go away.
MrMZaccone 3 months ago
@MrMZaccone LOL...was going through my comments and saw you had replied. I am still pretty embarrassed for you telling me what town you live in and stop by and "fight you". That's like the kid who waits for his friends to hold him back then goes crazy once they're there. Sad really.
fletchdrebon 2 weeks ago
@fletchdrebon What's sad it that in typical fashion, you've misquoted me. I never said any such thing. Another classic Christian tactic, making up a quote, taken in this case to the extreme.
