Yes, it's been a while. Life is packed with many things that are needed to be solved instantly, so it's not easy to do other things that I really want to do. However, whenever possible I would come up with something fun, or they could be qualified as inventions.
Retirement is always a dream for any working person, especially for me, because I love to do a lot of things, such as, making interesting videos for the Internet community.
Enjoy your retirement! Anytime you feel unhappy about your retirement, think about my retirement !!!!
LucMayMan, as you know as a city letter carrier we letter carriers are always happy to see out brother and sisters make it to retirement. I carried in all weather and many different conditions. Snow, ice, heavy very cold rain, fire, high humidity, hills, mud, 26 degrees below zero up to 116 degrees above zero and that isn't the worst of it. The worst of it...The Postal Service did very little to help. Best thing...God carried me through it all. NALC all the way!
It's easier to walk if I hold the mail as high as I can, and just high enough so my eyes can read.
Your stolen mail here? Well, I didn't see your name on any of these letters, so keep looking for your stolen mail elsewhere.
Mail theft does happen. Best thing is to discourage anyone, except letter carriers, from touching the mailbox. Display this warning: "It is a federal offense to tamper with this mailbox and its contents." I myself understand this warning by heart.
for a single nights work thats pretty impressive. although it looks a bit flimsey.. the structural work will probably need some tweaking, and as far as the lop-sidedness, if its not noticable thats not a big deal. as far as im concerned, if the invention helps you or helps others it was worth the time =D
I stunned my co-workers the morning after that night. One person asked, "You spent all night to make that?" It was possible for me to put ideas together and build that gadget in one night, because I always have materials and tools at hands to build many things else. I've been dreaming to have a dream workshop that I might name it "The 007 Laboratory."
The rain shield works well for me, but it still needs improvements to get more acceptance. I will keep this invention updated.
Admittedly, my rain shield invention may face a big challenge with the wind.
Luckily, Southern California doesn't have that many rainy days with wind.
If you notice, an elastic band in the middle works as an adjuster to accomodate the shield's weight and possible downward pressure from the wind.
To deal with the wind's upward pressure, a band around the jaws can fairly do the task, or possibly an additional string from the shield to my left hand.
One thing i won't do is put another down who is trying to use their mind creatively.
But in a place like the USA, people are worried what others will think of them if they're wearing something which looks a little unusual/silly. why not just an umbrella which instead of having a standard handle, put a shoulder harness or something on it. Keep up the creativity, but it needs a little work and modifications to design before it will be ready for real world use
Though it looks weird, my rain shield is a good protection for the mail from getting wet. It is not fun to deliver or to receive wet mail.
With a heavy satchel on my shoulder, and two hands busy to hold and sort out the mail constantly, I dont think I would love to hold any extra item, such as umbrella.
Someone has come up with the idea to attach an umbrella on a hat. I don't know if this improvisation actually looks less silly and being more practical than my rain shield.
read my comment, i said you could have an umbrella attatched via a shoulder harness
just make a jacket which has a water proof "cloth" which can be pulled out and attatched between the shoulder and hat somehow ( you can get a powder which makes cloth materials waterproof ) .
i just think after long periods of rain, since its on one side of the head would strain your neck, while it's not raining it would weigh next to nothing. but with rain on it.. .. just trying to help creatively
Yes, I understood your suggestion. However, in my opinion, that gadget would be quite costly in production. Moreover, the postal delivery service around the world is facing a great competition from all kinds of electronic communication, such as, fax machine, email, online chat, cellular phone, etc. I only hope my rain shield invention will make my job easier for myself.
By the way, I will show more of my out-of-this-world inventions in the near future.
I know its been quite a while since I commented, but i gotta know. hows the invention working out for you? =)

Yes, we've been through all the troubles to overcome any situation. Whatever it is, make the best out of it.

awesome!! is that my stolen mail? ;)
you're so creative. one question, do you usually hold the mail that high? maybe you need more coverage so your arms hang more naturally?
