musically, ozzy was the weak link in this band. tony, geezer, and bill were amazing musicians. oz had the personality to make it thru his lack of talent
I saw them at Liverpool Empire on this tour - the support band was some crap punk outfit that were brought in cos the original support band were just tooo good - an upcoming new band from the US called, er Van Halen.
best 7 min song EVER!!!! ozzy osbourne, toni iommi, geezer butler, bill ward probabally one of the best stage lineups of all TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember seeing this at New Haven, CT in October of '78. So loud that you couldn't hear Ozzy when Tony was playing power chords---which was most of the time. Still, it was Sabbath and Oz left before the end of the tour. Great memory despite Van Halen as warm up playing from their shitty 2nd LP. Then again they were all shitty except the first one.
I love Ozzy for everything he did in Sabbath but lately i've been pretty sick of Ozzy. He sued Iommi and shit, NOT cool.
The thing about Sabbath is they adapt good with different singers like Tony Martin and Dio. Gilliand is awesome too. But i could never see Sabbath without Iommi really...
It's actually Glenn Hughes' old Ric. If you look at photos of Deep Purple when Glenn first joined the band he was using a Ric, it's the same one. He gave it to Geezer because he prefered playing a Fender P bass but Geezer never liked it and only used it on this tour.
I have to agree with a mate of mine who says that the use of wah wah in the solo gives a sleasy feel to the song- which fits in really well with the theme of the lyrics
I caught this tour back in november of 78 with Van Halen as the opening act . Ozzy was drunk off his ass that night. one could tell it was the begining of the end for this great band.
How did Van Halen sound? Did thier speaker system sound good or did they share the same amps? Was Van Halen awesome too? Man, I would really appreciate to hear some feedback. Thanks if you can!
i performed and sang this song on a black sabbath tribute and had a guitarist replayed the same solos that iommi played in '78. it was a honor doing it for sabbath and ozzy fans
Monday June 19th 1978 at hammersmith Odeon - I know cause I was there - it was a great show on a really warm day the place rocked!! This date was added to the end of the tour to record this video - Van halen returned to US before this extra gig was held.
sabbath has perfected their music for many years. today, they do some improvisation to make the music more interesting. some bands are not interested into doing this. ozzy does things the same way and changes key notes to accomodate his singing. tony iommi does that for ozzy, too.
that last maain riff is so fucking awesome it makes me want to cry and get in a fight at the same time

@jugheadmcanus fuck you man. ozzys vocals are what made the early sabbath. it would not be the same without him

@MajinGogeta900 i agree 100%. His vocals were unique and helped define the Sabbath sound. They would not have been the same without him.

I have read on interview that he just forgot his bass and stage clothes so he swaped a thunderbird for that ric with Hughes.

Tony Iommi gets all the atention here, but what can we say of Geezer's bass playing? He's just amazing, and this song has a perfect bass line.
fantolin2 3 years ago 26
Amen, Geezers hands are like no others
Tony maybe the guitarist and main songwriter, but Geezers bass and Bills upbeat jazzy fills inbetween really give him a backbone for his solos
