One of the best lectures I've seen. There is no youth culture movement because all the corporations have everything sown up. Individual vision has been crushed underfoot and homogeneity is allowed to thrive. We need another McLaren.
I've heard my grandparents rant about this. It's just the usual mish-mash of superficial nostalgia and cliches. Want a struggle? Why don't you prepare quality speech with some original insight?
Fear of failure really causes people to never try to achieve their greatness. Everyone fails, but it his how you endure the struggle that will allow you to appreciate your accomplishments and respect those who try to achieve greatness as well.
Karaoke Culture? Apparently there was no pre-lecture visit to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where a group of misfit, trained, highly educated, humble, hilarious and innovative new school soul artists began integrating culture into karaoke. This is not your pianoman karaoke. This is real. This is cultural. This is intellectual and intriguing. This is Art. I think art has something to do with culture, both definitions.

"He arrived at the venue tired and short of breath, which you can hear during his talk. We thought it was just a cold. Days later we discovered he was unwell and then soon diagnosed with mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestos many years earlier. Some believe this exposure occurred when creating the shop on London's Kings Road referred to during his talk." -Ted
@FishyMoe I felt the same in my 20's. Word of wisdom then, from an old codger - get out there and join a philosophy group, book club, something like that. Volunteer at a university.. anything to get you mixing with people that stimulate your mind. Don't let yourself go without that mental nutrition, or you'll be wasting your talent. You obviously have an enquiring mind.. find out what it's seeking and pursue it!
@foiblebear yeah i am mixing with more people, but sadly even uni wasn't stimulating enough for me. No one wanted to question the validity of research, no one wanted to contribute or debate the knowledge they were being presented, everyone (my age) was very apathetic. I got along well with the teachers at least haha. I will try book clubs or a philosophy group sounds like something i need to do. If it wasn't for the internet, i'd feel even worse so thank Christ for it. and thanks for commenting
@FishyMoe I find Meetup.com is great for finding groups of people with the same interests. It's also important to take that feeling of dissatisfaction and do something with it. If you feel the need to question further, sit in on some higher level lectures. Follow your interests. If you just feel the need to express your thoughts, try Toastmasters (public speaking group). Just as the body needs exercise outside the daily routine, I think the brain does too.

Because he was old, giving a speech about an area outside his normal expertise, and about to die of mesothelioma. Too bad he didn't come with a cheat code, but thanks for proving his point. Your karaoke is calling you back, shoo.

man, cant it be more like:
1. Un-cool people have time to study
2. idiots dont die by natural causes anymore (tigers and disease)
3. Idiots seem more prolific... and thats why everyone wants to be famous, because they're idiots, and even idiots want to be rich and powerful.
Inelegance has nothing to do with sympathy so why should the inelegant take care of the stupid?
