  • I just bought this on blu-ray a couple of days ago and it was AMAZING! I can't believe how good Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey are! Incredible!

  • I'm 14, and I watched this film with my 10 year old sister and we had no idea what was going on. It was really horrible at the end where they killed Pauline's mother. Made me want to throw up.

  • this movie reminds me of Pan's Labyrinth...

  • @fede018 me too

  • It's bizarre seeing the town you live in in a movie haha not that it really looks like that anymore.. but the hills where they were spinning around are the same :)

  • why killed one of the girls her mother?

  • @MyLalinea because she wouldn't let her out of the country

  • Amazing movie!!! Disturbing but brilliant.

  • is the one where they kill the girls mom it looks like it but i cant tell

  • @kaleighjo92 Yes, it is :)

  • @kaleighjo92 yes it's the one ! :D

  • sometimes the trouble is with trailers, they give away too much and show too much of the film and then I don't feel like watching it anymore- I feel like I've already seen it!

  • Hellish Creatures.

  • this movie it ok at the first half then gets nore and more disturbing i cant believe its a true story 2 girls proppa phycopaths n i cant believe noone noticed it freaks me out :|

  • it´s a great lesbian movie one of my favorites and i saw a lot...

  • what is the song at the end?

  • This movie messed me up. But totally worth watching!

  • Why did they record this with a toaster? Leon was made in 1994 too and it looks so much better...

  • i haaaaaaaaateeeeee this movieee

  • @amrigaful then why did you watch this??????

  • @MissSheriffable The same thing I'm trying to understand

  • @amrigaful dont watch it then.so simple.

  • OJCCCCCCCCCCC

  • Brilliant film, and what a debut. Watched Titanic last night.

  • Hey, that's rose the stalker! Once a looney, always a looney.

  • Kate Winslet looks so much like my mum!

  • Does anyone know if the new remastered version is going to be released in the US or just Europe?

  • those two were nuts

  • kate winslet hasn't aged a day. she's immortal.

  • @chaosinorderrr yes she is....Yes she is.

  • film is immensely beautiful

  • The murder scene in this film is disgusting and very sad. It made me feel sick in my stomach, literally.

  • ok

  • @episdemais You're a one dimensional creature and should get off of this video, go chase some skin this movie wasn't created to target such a low quality market like you. Bye : )

  • A truly brilliant film! One of Peter Jackson's best.

  • @TheAltair4

That indeed and PJ is a genius to make a work of art outside of gore comedies

  • Saw the movie, it's really a beautiful film and rather tragic.

  • they kill one person at the end... love is one thing.. kill someone it's other

  • i just love this movie.

i mean, doesn't everyone wish a friend like this?!?!

    it's amazing *_*

  • i dont know why anyone would fear lesbianism in 2011. Whatever floats your boat people!

  • @Sysperia Don't make me lez out and dash your brains out with a rock :D

  • Rose? from two and a half men?

  • @laladuplex yes, that's her.

  • i hate this movie! she killed her own mother! who loved so much! ANd although she was an actress in a movie the mothers scream (when they hit her with stupid brick)will never get out of my head! those to girl where completely stupid and immature! youre 15! your old enough to know the difference in right and wrong!

sorry! that scene when the mother screams left me devastated! now i need a psychiatrist after seeing this movie!!

  • @teta809 Geez, way to spoil a movie! Please contain the words SPOILER WARNING before revealing the end of a movie.

  • @Brucey2114 I live just across from orkney, orkney has a very brilliant history i love it.

  • @Brucey2114 Wow, are you for real?

  • @Brucey2114 thats amazing! ...but catching a ride with the spycho murderess, perhaps a little daring...

  • @Brucey2114 You just dropped her docs....

  • this movie fuked my mind

  • Pauline is Rose in Two & A Half Men!

  • anyone knows the name of the song, when she says "Mario Lanza" at 0:33???

  • @srdiaz It's an Italian song called Funiculi, Funicula.

  • A lot of people here are debating whether they're lesbians or not. I don't think they are (proofs from Pauline's diary), but they relationship is so strong, and they're inseparable, so the people around them think they're lesbians. They're just best friends.

Anyway, this movie is flabbergasting, because the theme is sooo like obsessive (in the end, who's the good and evil?), and delicate. Made me cry :')

  • How these two ever got their freedom back is beyond me.

  • this is the best movie I´ve ever seen. Perhaps I love it so much because of my longing for a soulmate which I never found!

  • the ending is sad not only because of the murder.their impossible love is what is really heart crushing.only one who has experienced love and the loss of love can know how painful that feels

  • gosh did this movie piss my pants...

  • @LaudanumDrinker Meaning.. ?? :)

  • @jensenluna well... i DID like it, but i was totally unprepeared, and the story struck me out of the blue. i couldn't really sleep for days, the ending was somewhat waaaaaay too shocking for me. should watch it again some time though....

  • i absolutley love the character of Juliette (except the disturbed part) she is so full of life, and happy, and she is not afraid to open her mouth !

  • It is sad, they are maybe still in love now, and they can't meet each other...

  • 1:09,

Honora Parker-Rieper: You don't seriously think anyone's gonna publish them, do you?

Pauline Parker: What would you know?

  • Such a great movie, such a great story. Interesting realization of her diaries. But it's a shame how people treat each other here in the comment section.

  • one of best NZ film i've seen after 'the piano' and of course 'lord of the rings' trilogy! It's truly emotionally disturbing and had a strong sense of creepiness..i mean not a horror scary but more a psychological scary..

  • @calciumkid85 Umm hate to break it to you but The Piano is an Australian/French co-production and LOTR is American, they were just filmed in NZ and had NZ directors etc.

  • @nzchloe1979 Yeah, but The Piano is still a New Zealand Film because the Story takes place in New Zealand and it just so happens to be My very, very, very all-time favorite Movie.

  • @Mr1991ladarius I understand what you're saying, but, In order to be classified as a NZ film the funding needs to come from NZ. Funding for The Piano (which I agree is a fantastic movie) and LOTR came from other countries.

  • Woow, thats Rose from Two and a Half Men! haha ;)

  • Peter Jackson cigarettes.

  • i tink this moie wouldve been better if made in 2009 or something cuz now we got better special effects XD

We GOTS a lotta prolemssess cuz we are okay with the waze we bee....I'm really tired of hearing illiterate people throwing stupid responses out on the web....Hopefully u will do better in the future. Promise everyone right now...I promise not to prpogate! ty

  • So, this was inspiration for "Lisa the drama queen."

  • K monada de cría. Kate Winslet me refiero

  • when i first saw this movie i thought it was the fuckin weirdest movie in the world, and it still is

  • @Primalinsanity77 Hi, you've obviously never seen "A Clockwork Orange".

  • I LOVE THAT MOVIE

  • love this film

  • This is made after Brain Dead

  • @clashrogers Yeah, and the french teacher at the begining of the movie, was the zombie mother of Lionel in "Braindead"

  • Love it

  • One of best work from peter jackson! And definitely one of best new zealand production film i have ever watched and it was shot in my uncle's hometown : christchurch. Indeed, it was a marvelous picture to date

  • I watched this movie a few months ago. It is defiantly one of those rarer movies that fits in its own catagory, (versus the stereotypical movie playout). The acting was amazing, you can almost feel the tension that builds between everyone, and there slow decent into delirium. I did cry at the end at the mothers death, I knew it was coming and the music and the way the scene was played out was perfect. In my opinion I think they were lesbian but only the true people know that for sure.

  • @Yakkady

Congratulations on spoiling the film, jackass.

  • crazy hair for kate

  • Dvořák, Symphony 9.

  • @bajmcab Do you know which movement it's from?

  • What is the song that sounds in 1:35?

  • Saw this movie last week and it totally blew me away. Just amazing.

It was also sad to me becaue it reminded me a lot of the relationship I had with my childhood friend (Minus the homicidal lesbian part XD).

  • They're not necessarily lesbian. I think their friendship was so strong that it turned romantic, only out of their various psychological problems and family issues. Remember that the context of their lesbian scene is that they're roleplaying love scenes between royals in their made-up world, so it's possible that the girls were so disturbed they fell in love with the other's character, and not each other.

  • You do have a point there. I didn't think of it in that context.

  • @pwnedTAS, I think you are right. It is not unusual for friendships between even normal girls this age to take a romantic turn, sometimes including sexual experimentation, sometimes not.

I think it is an unconscious way of transitioning from girlhood to womanhood in a "safe" relationship. Kind of a trial run that prepares girls for sex with men.

  • @EyeLean5280 maybe I'm misinterpreting what you're trying to say. But from my understanding your saying that having sex with a female during teenage years, prepares you for 'proper' sex with a male? Lesbians can't have sex?

  • @1deenare, that's a mighty big leap you're making there!

Yes, I said some straight girls experiment with each other before fooling around with boys. They're initially reaching out for what's familiar. That's how I interpreted the characters in this film.

But how you get "lesbians can't have sex" out of that interpretation is beyond me!

  • @EyeLean5280 @EyeLean5280 i did say i may have misinterpreted what you may have been trying to say . it just seemed a bit too 'let's make these women and their relationship seem normal and fit into an all- magical -all-straight -world' kind of theme. the feeling i got from ' a trial run that prepares girls for sex with men' was kind of demeaning to me thats all... I'm just saying, don't hate

  • @1deenare, First of all, I don't believe in any such magical world (and again, I don't know where you got that from my post). Second, I don't see these characters as normal - they are cold-blooded murderers, after all - and I don't know where you get THAT, either! Third, how in the world is reporting something that is absolutely true (young straight girls often experiment on each other) an expression of hate? I think you are projecting your own faults (bigotry & hatred) onto me.

  • @EyeLean5280 Ok,phew (wipes forehead, begins rant) so usually I laugh at these little tiffs on YT! So that is what I'll do here. Before I do so, I did not say you are hateful, its an expression, i.e. don't hate me for asking. Secondly, I was also taking the mickey. Now, I defend myself and leave you with this. My parents told me it was a 'phase' when i starting experimenting with other girls. Yes, i may have felt belittled by 'trial run' as it was a reminder of my folks response to my gayness.

  • @EyeLean5280 Yes, I may have projected this frustration toward your comment. So sorry. Honestly, I must be like th only person in the history of YT to have taken a comment the wrong way. Mind you, my reply was not a personal attack and I'm sorry if you misconstrued it as such. It was a question (there were actual questions marks) asking for an answer. Some people might feel the need to justify their feeling towards the same sex by saying its a phase (no names mentioned *wink wink) just saying

  • @EyeLean5280 As I am kept very busy spreading hatred and bigotry (I do so whilst riding my unicorn and waving magic rainbow wand) I sadly have no more time to waste typing these lovely response. Unfortunately, I will not be responding after this (even though our discussions have been fun and insightful) so please feel free to berate me some more. At least then you can feel like Tom Cruise jumping on a sofa and tell all your friends how like totally gave that deenare1 a piece of your mind!

  • @1deenare

    @1deenare

just wanted to say your comments have been entertaining and you seem alright to me :)

ride that unicorn and wave your wand lol

  • @EyeLean5280

*No humans or unicorns were harmed in the typing of this response

*Disclaimer: I Do not own any rights to lesbians, or unicorns, although I would like to spoon with either/both

fullstop, no returns, no extras, END transmission/rant

  • @1deenare

just wanted to say your comments have been entertaining and you seem alright to me :)

ride that unicorn and wave your wand lol

  • @envenom1 Oh I'm riding... I'm riding! Would you like to jump aboard my white unicorn? Ohhh and lookie here...in my Tegan and Sara hoodie...look in the pocket... TA -DA .. YES.. it's another rainbow wand... would you like to spread love with me? Lets put some ABBA on shall we!! bwahaha :P

  • @1deenare only the ones from your left pocket, right pocket havent been so reliable lately, and I like it when the rainbows shooting over my head from your wand descend their colours in the opposite order :p

  • @pwnedTAS , Precisely. I had a friendship with that sort of intensity and my friend turned out to be a lesbian - though she denies completely to everyone else. I was glad, when she was out of my life for good. Some day, I wil write a memoir about it.

  • @Variel22 that sucks. i would never want a lesbian friend. i would be affraid if she would ever check me out! ._.

  • @CFiZzl3andAr4bson She always have and it never really bothered me because I knew who I was, understood who she was but she never did. It was probably one of the greatest friendships I have had. I do not regret our friendship at all.

  • @Variel22 ohh i get u.. but it still stinks.. uk why cant u guys still be friends if she juss didnt think of u that way :/

  • @CFiZzl3andAr4bson She told me she loved me consistently but she knew that I was not gay and she was ok with the idea that we were really, really close friends because - in her head, she can blur the truth. We could not be friends because she became more of an obligation than a friend that I can no longer take care of.

  • @Variel22 Oh man.. but see that would scare me off. if one of my girl best friends told me that. i would be like ohkay well i cant tlk to u anymore.

  • @CFiZzl3andAr4bson So your friend would lose a friend in you, just for admitting to you and to herself who she is.? I agree, it would be difficult for you to understand if you do not agree but being who she is, is not her fault. If someone is your friend - I would think you respect some part of her that was honest with you. That is what happened to me. No one really knew - exactly - except me. I was ok with it because I knew she knew that I was not like her.

  • @Variel22 yeahh but still like i dont respect anyone. i would honor her as a friend but thats it. but i would tell her if you seriously dont think straight and realize what your doing is wrong i cant tlk to u. its evil. like i cant be around that. and im soo glad that never happened to me. but with other ppl its different like nobody cares. but it makes you think to do evil is okay. and its not... uk?

  • @CFiZzl3andAr4bson What does the term uk" mean? I am sorry I am not familiar. I am not sure what you think is evil - if you are against homosexuality - ok I understand that you do not approve of it/

  • @Variel22 lol it means you know. yeahh what is evil about it. is the lust*

  • @CFiZzl3andAr4bson At any rate, thank you at least "hearing" my thoughts.

  • @Variel22 your welcomee

  • @pwnedTAS u did not juss say they rnt lesbian.. well they rnt straight thats for sure -____- its gross. and they r stupid for making this movie. because now they cant say they rnt a lesbian. but they can go and kiss another girl for money? yeah yeahh they r lesbians and in real life. you cant deny it. we see it plain out that they juss made out... yeahh because your "soo straight" -_____-

  • @pwnedTAS I read in a true crime book that Pauline's diary entries suggest that their relationship was "pseudo-sexual" but not physical. Both girls moved on after the crime and haven't had contact since they were convicted. I don't know if they're still alive (they'd be in their 70s now), but they lived normal, productive lives after their release (one of them became a crime novelist and the other a school teacher)

  • This movie is so sad... And it's scary, because I can't even really call them freaks or insane or anything! The way they're portrayed in this movie really lets you see the way they're thinking and how much they love each other... Thumbs up, Peter Jackson!

  • One of the most tragic stories and even more so because it is a true one.

  • "its everyone else whos bonkers" LMAO i loooove her

  • who is the actor at 1:13 i have seen him in other films but cant put my finger on it

  • Some of Pauline Parker's artwork can be seen on Flicker dotcom. If you can't find it I can give you the link. Can't print them in the comments section of Youtube.

  • This is one of my favorite films. Truth is always stranger than fiction and Jackson did his homework with these girls. Did very thorough research first. The Kate Winslet character (Juliet Hulme) is, in real life, "Anne Perry", a successful author of murder mystery novels of all things, and has been writing books since the 70's. Truth is stranger than fiction - yes.

  • ok well i just saw this again and omg all the memories came flooding back!!! great fucking movie

  • yeah lol

but we embrace that new title..

i was telling sasha we're gona change the motto to lesainism and truth, or whatever that is in latin..

  • ae maddie!!! and now we supposedly go to school in a "hum of lesbianism"

  • LOL

i go to the school they come from..

    this "incident" is kinda taboo

  • THIS MOVIE MADE ME GO EO FOR ABOUT AN HOUR (then i returned to normal)

  • oh where ? what site?

  • What is EO?

  • i meant to say emo, by comp is messed up

  • I just finished this film a couple of minutes ago. Wow. It was brilliant! I laughed a lot at their antics. I did cry at the mother's death, I couldn't believe they went that far. I must say, what a terrific film!

  • oh cool then, thanks!?

is there any site that plays the whole movie??

  • hey, i think i remember watching this movie when i was young. on Tv2. good memories, but i don't really know if it is the same movie, is there a scene where they pretend that they are pregnant and they are delivering the baby?? help me?? and a scene where katewinslet is coughing in class as a joke but then she coughs out blood???

  • you have watched it then

  • YES, yes there is.

  • YES! That's exactly the same movie! I saw this movie yesterday, and omg, I couldn't believe my eyes at the end :O And the creepiest thing is, it's a true story...

  • The lyrics of the Dutch song "Samen zijn" (being together) by singer Willeke Alberti, are very suitable for this movie too! Can't translate the lyrics. Dutch fans of the movie, do you know the song?

You can find Willeke on YouTube with this song, great!

  • this film scared the crap outta me when i was 8,, i was like WTF!

now im 14 and have noticed that this trailer makes it out alot less darker than it is :/

  • i love this movie!!!

  • Brilliant movie!

  • Can someone put the music and lyrics of The Theme of the Godfather behind it? The lyrics fit well:

    ,,,,,

We're in a world, our very own

Sharing a love that only few have ever known.

    .....

Wine-coloured days, warmed by the sun,

Deep velvet nights when we are one.

As if it was written for this movie.

  • The Simpsons did a whole episode based on this movie.

  • lol, Ah the Simpsons - is there a movie they won't ruin? ;)

  • (sighs) ahh kate winslet...when will you come back to britain and make sweet sweet love to me

  • I got so scared when I realised they went to Cghs. I go there and used to play near where they commited the murder

  • This got nominated for Best Original Script at the Oscars.

  • I sse dumb people...they're everywhere...they walk around like everyone else...they don't even know that they're dumb...and some of them... THEY POST HERE !

  • lol .... awsome.

  • @hanselkksc: You just got yourself the thumbs up for the funniest comment I've seen in a while...

  • @Schamschi: Delayed thanks- cause of summer holidays- und schönen Gruss von Old Germany nach Österreich ;)

  • @hanselkksc wow that was too funny lol

  • @MONICAwazHERE15

Thank you, i have my moments ;)

  • @hanselkksc

I watch it when I was about 5 and understand the relationship

  • @Dramactica

Kinder particularly clever ones can often detect situations which seem complicated for adults even though things are really obvious

  • @Dramactica I wrote "Kinder" :D i meant "children" ofcourse, it's because German is my native language and i probably was "thinking German" in the beginning of the sentence.

  • Peter Jackson is a genius. His direction of this film is brilliant. One of teh best directors EVER.

  • I really don't know what to say... This film really freaked me out, considering it is forbidden in my school to watch this, as my school happens to be CHGirls... This is really beyond scary, although it maybe fair to say that the school has its fair representation of the lesbian community; including some of my friends and I don't treat them any differently to my other friends. This society has changed alot since the Parker-Hulme incident.

  • ur stypid and disgusting

if its so gross to u why do u watch it ?

  • the brunette is the woman from two & a half men!
