  • It is amazing how long it takes, but.... it gets better.

  • This makes me so angry being lesbian or homosexual is illegal and now they are starting to claim rights. This is a christian country.

  • @blomstersenter this isnt a christian country this is a country of all religions and no religions. this is a country of freedom and everyone in this country deserves freedom; including homosexuals. straight and homosexual humans are built the exact same way. they all have hearts, they all have brains, they all have lungs; there is no difference between the people. why should it matter what lifestyle one wants to take on? its their choice.

  • @blomstersenter i have no idea if you are serious but if you are, o my goood! you act as if you're 2 years old! there's nothing like beeing illegal if you're lesbian or gay!! and there's nothing like a christian country. u r a fucking idiot! i don't know if its just america (i'm eropean) or if the churchs or the people or the schools u have over there, but you're really fucked up. REALLY.

  • :'( this is sad :(

  • can't wait for the movie version !! Ellen Page will sure make a good role on this as Stacie

  • what happend later? I am going to search on net ..but I have this need to ask.

  • This is amazing! I have lesbian parents and one of my mom's actually has cancer...

    SUPPORT GAY AND LESBIAN MARRIAGE!

  • I'm excited to see what they do with the movie version of this. It has Ellen Paige as Stacie and the same guy who wrote Philadelphia (one of the most powerful movies ever released in our lifetime) writing the script. The documentary was one of the most moving pieces of film I have ever seen. I hope the feature film is only half as good.

  • bluejersey, truth be told there truly is a good site that everyone can goto in order to watch complete television shows, sport matches and movies. You'll find it over at stream episodes (dot) net and I make use of it on a daily basis to watch all of the tv shows I miss.

    Freeheld Trailer

  • @LolaJarvis78157 - Its not acting. This is a documentary, and these are real people. Which makes the whole story really touching and heartbreaking. I cried my eyes out watching this.

  • I really want to see this. I am very glad that they eventually gave her partner her pension. One of the freeholder Jack Kelly I have known my whole life(best friends with his son) and is without a doubt the most stand up guy I have ever met. He has always treated me like his own son. Although I disagree with his and the other freeholders initial decision. I strongly believe that no one should judge him or any of the other freeholders based on this. He is actually a very nice guy.

  • At my library [ Ocean County Library] we had a screening today.

And the director came, and a few people involed in the whole thing.

It was surreal to think it happened in my town, and it broke my heart. It was a beautiful film, you never realize how REAL these things are until there's a camera around.

  • I've never cried more in a movie than I did in this one. Even watching the trailer makes me want to cry. It is such an important and touching film.

  • do u know where can i see this? where can i do the dowload? thank u

  • I felt a real moment of pride when this won the Oscar.

  • You're so uneducated.

  • Yes I do. I want more children to be in loving homes and less children on shelters and on the streets. I want more children to have parents, period. Who cares if those parents are both male, or both female, or male and female, or just on single parent.

  • just this preview makes me see how important this film is. i really wanna see this. does anyone know if this is available on a dvd?

  • Is this a satire or are you really this stupid? I hope the former cause if the answer is the latter then we need to work on education policy or the world will be corrupted with stupidity.

  • Man you can't even string a coherent sentence togther, so I think I'll take my advice from a non-fundamentalist who exhibits at least some morsel of intelligence. Cheers for the advice anyhow.

  • did you loose your braincells by accident or are you just giving them away?

  • Haha.

  • whats loose? its lose isnt it?

  • yes it is, my mistake, is that why I got the thumbs down?

  • Dude, fuck God. Because of God, things in this world won't change. Because you stubborn Christians won't stop following everything in the bible, well, if YOU even read the bible. Though I'm not saying I hate Christians, I just think that they should stop thinking being homosexual or lesbian is a bad thing because the bible says so.

  • obviously homosexualism isn't so common that the human race will be extinct. accepting it isn't advertising it. homosexuals are born, not made.

who needs god and rules on how to be good when you can be a good person on your own accord. philanthropy. know the word. practise it. and realise that homosexuals are too human beings with hearts and them being different does not affect their personality.

  • yup.

  • this looks incredibly touching and important. i really want to see this

  • hand up for those girls...brave soldiers of love and real democracy!!! its a matter of justs! equal rights now!!!!

I´m form brazil, the same thing happens here..its a shame, there is no 2º degree os citzens..we all pay bills, we all have to have the same rights!

  • Touching and beauty.

  • In Poland it is the same - gays are are not given their partner's pension. Countries which violate Human Rights this way should just vanish from the Earth surface.

  • very emotional...a film that fights against injustice..i admire everyones spirit associated with this film....

  • wow, this is unbelievably touching

  • This seems to moving... nearly cried during the trailer.

  • I am wondering the same thing as qrzz. Where can one find the full-length video?

  • i really would like to watch freeheld, but i can´t find to donwload, pleaseee someone give me a link to donwload ok? pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • fastfashn, I hope that you realize that the impression you have made by leaving that obnoxious comment is that of an ignorant, fascist pig! I have no respect for anyone who tries to make a point by using demeaning comments such as "stupid lesbians" & "rotten little theocratic Christianist taliban". You have offended me and I hope that you learn to be more careful next time. YOu can make a point without being a bigot about things.

  • Did you read my ENTIRE post?

    Read it again.

  • I am crying....we need to fight for only one simple reasons, the right to love

  • This came so close to making me cry!

Marriage is a civil right, not a heterosexual privilege! Pensions and things should not be considered "privileges" for heterosexuals only.

And also, to anyone who doesn't know: April 25 is The Day of Silence. Take part in this act to stop crimes against homosexuals.

  • Awesome trailer. I cried. Never stop working for change.

  • The movie comes out over the summer of this year for all of those who are looking to eventually see it. I know I myself am looking forward to it. The bottom line is that things are changing, as a society if we cant come to terms with it then those who accept the change will move forward while the others will stay behind. Change is INEVITABLE people and this movie goes straight to the heart of it and so many other issues that plague us in this day and age. Congrats for the win!!

  • omg i started crying. i wanna see this one. it just make me so sad that the world can treat people like this...

thank you Cynthia Wade for making this and trying to open peoples mind and changing them

  • And the Oscar goes to--

    Freeheld!

Congratulations to a great, important film!

  • is this at blockbuster... cuz i definitely wanna see this... this looks amazing...

  • I'm so happy this won! We need a change!

  • I am so happy this movie won the Award for Best Documentary-Short. I truly believe this movie won because it had a way of impacting people, both homosexal & heterosexual. It showed the strength and determination of one human, who really didn't have the time or energy to stand up for herself. I'm Canadian, we don't have to deal with these issues, but we keep all Homosexual Americans & there struggles close to our hearts. I hope one day you can experience all the freedoms we have in Canada.

  • absolutely!

  • It Got the Oscar! amazing!!

  • I want to buy this!

  • Congratulations.... may this win bring you much deserved press and bring this issue to the forefront.

  • THIS IS FOR YOU LAUREL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • baktosquare1 , you will burn in hell.

  • You are the uninformed one. Having a will does not allow one to pass on a pension. Prior to the Freeholders signing the resolution, the pension Laurel had thru Ocean County could only be passed on to a legal spouse or a child.

  • you're a moron

  • that was for baktosquare1

  • fastfashn, I hope that you realize that the impression you have made by leaving that obnoxious comment is that of an ignorant, fascist pig! • IT JUST WON AN OSCAR !! Films like this give an insight in what gay couples deal with. There is just one of many cases of gay couples who spend a lifetime together but still do not get the same respect as their heterosexual counterparts.

  • Congratulations. May her death not be in vain.

    "You have the power."

  • that is sooo sad, and im so glad that they won, can you tell me where i can go see this, leave a comment, or send me a message, please

  • A Movie Dearest blog featured video. See my profile for the link and playlists!

  • It is sad that our nation still treats others as second class citizens.

  • Very touching... it almost maked me cry...

  • Just make it clearer, what do you mean by all people? Pretentious prig.

  • Very touching, i'm weeping...

  • OMG..hab einfach geweint....OMG

  • What an amazingly touching documentary. The courage that it must have taken to rise up in the face of death and demand justice - something that she has been protecting for every day citizens for so long. This trailer brought me to tears.

  • Every person, no matter what sexuality preference they have, should have the same rights.

Things change... But for some not fast enough. Let's work together for our rights.

  • I could not say it that better. I agree with you. It doesn't matter if you are gay or straight; what matters is: we are human beings! And that's all that should matter in any country. Let's stop any kind of bigotry and work together to build a better future for our sons and grandsons. What matter are our human rights!

  • I can't believe that this is still an issue on the 21st century. It's hateful and disgusting.

    GAYPRIDE isn't just for gays.

  • Love is not about Gender

  • @chrisl692002 it's about sex

  • It's not about "gay rights" folks. It's about HUMAN RIGHTS!!!

It's not about some extraordinary bending of the rules for a "minority". It's about common human decency!!!

Thanks to the courage of Laurel Hester and thousands of activists NJ's laws were changed.

This wonderful film is a must see for all of us! We still have a long way to go...
