Georgia should not have been called for excessive celebration. I am a Tennessee fan so dislike LSU but i HATE georgia. Still think the call was bullshit.
these excessive celebration rules are fucking retarded. who actually gets offended when some celebrates after a score? as an opposing fan i'm more angry that my team gave up a touchdown instead of the guy celebrating. if you're offended by "lack of sportsmanship" then you're a pussy and you shouldn't be watching football. you should be playing in traffic
the flag was thrown around the 12 or 13 second mark thers nothing aj could have done or said that wasnt out of clear excitement in that short of time period. glad the refs got suspended they deserved it
I love how "excessive celebration" is called for regular touchdown celebrations which are seen all the time in the NCAA and NFL. Nothing he did there was any different from any other celebration, but he got a flag. I don't understand. Are we supposed to have these guys act like emotionless robots after they score?
They're young athletes. They scored. If you don't like it because it's "Not PC" or "Not Sportsmanlike" don't let him score. It's not calculus.
go google us news report on top public schools in the us or even the top national universities.
UGA is a bit higher in rank buddy, but if you didn't know that, its okay.
Ya. Okay. Like I said, UGA is a better school than LSU. Although its not the best public school, I personally think the honors program at UGA makes it a pretty nice deal.
Refs screwed Georgia im just waiting for the day when those refs admit they were fixing games to help make more big match ups its no coincidence that since LSU won that game it was undefeated Florida vs. undefeated LSU the very next week
ive also heard alot of stuff about how oh, LSU was going to run the ball anyways and score on us without the penalty. Bull. LSU needed at least a FG to win, but they were already in FG range when they took posession. SO they ran it, and broke a tackle and took it for six. What im trying to say is the penalty did matter. LSU was not going to run it if we didnt have that penalty, and I felt like our defense could have
I am not a UGA or LSU fan. Personally I don't care much for either, but I will say that this call was complete BS. And there is NO WAY to know if this call changed the outcome of the game. I think UGA could have very well won this game if the penalty had not been called, BUT at the same time LSU still could have scored. Point being: The call was completely ridiculous, but there's still no way to know for sure if it outcome! I'm glad the refs were suspended though...good decision there..haha
Fact of the matter is this. Had UGA not been called for the penalty they more than likely would have kicked the ball through the endzone, forcing LSU to start from their own 20. I would have taken my chances with that, rather than having them start at our 35. Plus, the defense had actually played well that day, i believe we could have held them.
Actually, UGA's kickoff was caught at the 17 so with the 15 yards it still would not have been a touchback. Furthermore, without the penalty the ball would still have been returned close to UGA territory. Needing only a FG to win, they would have had no reason to throw the ball with that much time left. As I said before, 15 yards or 50 yards, UGA had no one in a position to stop Scott on the TD run anyway. The best that UGA could have hoped for was a short LSU FG with which they still lose.
Yeah, that's what I said before. I think that a couple of the refs that did our game and the UF vs. ARK game were suspended like around four games. IM not positive, but that's what I heard.
I have nothing against UGA. I'm usually pulling for them when they're not playing LSU (or at least I was until I read some of the comments made by UGA fans). I don't think that either team is near as good this year as they traditionally are. I do think it is ridiculous to say that you got robbed and your season is ruined because of one penalty. If every team bitched and griped about every bad call no one would be willing to watch football anymore.
If you were on the other side of the situation youd understand more. I bet Arkansas fans are feeling the same right about now. I really dont have anything against most Lsu fans, Im just mad cause the refs blow, but its all good now cause theyve been suspended. I usually dont get angry at people but when it comes to Georgia football I get a little out of hand, my bad.
LSU has been robbed in the past also so I do understand your frustration. We got screwed by the refs @ Auburn 2 years ago. I live for college football and I think that the SEC is by far the best conference out there. I also like how wound-up fans in the SEC get too (me included). You're right, Arkansas fans should really feel screwed right now.
As I have said twice before already, UGA had the same 15 yards given to them from the same bad call that LSU got which offered them the same opportunity to score. If the excessive celebration penalty had not also been called on LSU I might feel a little sorry for you but the fact is, both teams were given opportunities... LSU got a touchdown and UGA threw an interception. And BTW, 10 yards or 45 yards, no one was going to stop Charles Scott from scoring a TD on that last run.
LSU only needed a field goal to win! That means the kickoff is huge and the ref knew that. Giving the same call to lsu doesnt mean anything cause now georgia needed a touchdown and had significantly less time to score. All Lsu had to do after they scored was sit and play prevent! The ref was trying to cover his ass so ignorant people like you would let him off the hook.
LSU may have only "needed" a FG to win, but the fact remains that they scored a TD. Maybe I'm wrong but I think they were trying to win the game or something. LSU scored in 23 seconds which left UGA plenty of time to go down the field especially with the added 15 yards on the kick off. They didn't do it. Without the 15 yards given to LSU, the ball would have ended up well within field goal range or, more likely, in the end zone after Scott's run. Either way, Georgia loses.
Do you honestly think that LSU would have been running the ball if it were deep in their own territory? They were running it just to take the clock down, the UGA players just gave up on the game after LSU started the drive in FG range.
first off, how the hell would you know what he said?
second, he caught the ball with his back to the LSU section, and he didnt face them. He faced the georgia section in the endzone.
Third, HOW THE HELL CAN YOU SAY IT DIDNT AFFECT THE GAME!?! That 15 yarder allready put LSU in good field goal range, and all they really had to do was go about ten yards.
You probably shouldn't chant "fu@# you LSU" to the visitor section right in front of the official like Green did and not expect a flag. Everybody seems to forget that LSU got the very same penalty 2 plays later for doing nothing more than Green did. I SERIOUSLY doubt it affected the outcome of the game anyway.
first of all you can't tell what he is saying and he is directly in front of the UGA student section you dumbass. that entire endzone holds only UGA students
Did you actually watch the game? Green could not have been much closer to the LSU section. Furthermore, I never said I could tell what he was saying but the sideline personnel clearly could. It was discussed in a post-game press conference. LSU had the same penalty called giving UGA every chance to score again but they threw an interception instead. BOTH were bad calls but neither penalty made any difference in the outcome of the game. I don't know why people are still talking about this.
yeah I was at the game. Im a uga student and I almost always sit in the student section in the end zone! AJ greene's back was to the LSU fans who he ran the opposite direction of after he scored. obviously you must not have watched the game
and if you think that the players don't curse on the field you are extremely naive and if he was yelling what you say, one again he was not saying it to lsu fans as they were nowhere near him because the entire endzone is georgia students
This is the same crew that hosed Arkansas when they were playing Florida. This crew should be fired or at least reprimanded for their ridiculous calls.
Now this is what pisses me off. Ok, so If your AJ Green, you just caught the potential game winning touchdown against the (at the time) 4th ranked team in the country, and the officials expect him to just jog off the field? Plus, Joe was sprinting around the field with his hands up, and they didnt call anything on him.
I was there and there was no need for a call....if there should have been a call it sholud have been on the crowd for being so LOUD...my ears were bleeding haha
Actually I think that the celebration penalty comes at the end of the video between the :26 and :28 seconds when Green threw his arms up to the crowd in celebration. Complete bullshit call. Dear Refs, thanks for being LSU's MVP. Sincerely,
You know they say that football fans take on the attitude of their coach and all Mark Richt has done since he got to Georgia is whine, bitch, and complain.
after TD's the first ting on the refs mind is getting the ball to line it up for the PAT, you see aj green drops the ball as his teammates come to celebrate with him. all i can think of is that when the ref was tryyin to break it all up it took more time than he wanted it to and finally just said alright thats enough. but with the circumstances of that game, and how big that TD was at that moment they had the right to celebrate. maybe next time just try to get to the sideline then celebrate.
no it would be a celebration penalty. because the playclock hadnt even started yet.. they cant start it until they set the ball. and they couldnt set the ball if they were tryin to break up the celebration. theres no way it could be a delay of game.
i know. i'm saying what you're describing is a delay of game penalty. you said they were taking too much time celebrating. but its not the amount of time they took its somehow excessive celebration.
but im not describing a delay of game penalty! lol as i stated in my earlier post. and wha ti described is NOT a delay of game penalty because again the playclock had not started because the ball had not been set. i dont see how thats hard to figure out.
yeah dumb ref...he didn't even tackle the LSU player when he broke free from the UGA defense and scored the game winning touchdown. I can't believe that ref!!!
what was the penalty....he literally just ran like ten feet and got swarmed by teammates. this is why the excessive celebration penalties need to go. they ruin the game and unfairly determine the outcome. if a bunch of dumb fucks in their offices try to take the emotion and excitement out of college football it will just continue to ruin the sport. fuck you, NCAA
what in the world is going on with refs nowadays? first the jake locker thing, now this? THIS WAS THE WORST CALL EVER!! that fuckin queer ass ref needs his ass whooped!
the only thing i can see maybe wrong with it is that the celebration lasted awhile but thats still bull he didnt spike the ball dance do a flip or anything stupid
SOME of the UGA fans are a bunch of whiners.Sad thing -half the people posting NEVER went to the school. I got to see some of the rudeness & even if we lose EVERY game from now on - we kicked your a**.GEAUX TIGERS.
This play greatly affected the outcome of the game. If this penalty wasn't called then we had the possibility of kicking the ball into the endzone for a touchback. This would've forced LSU to pass in order to at least get into field goal range. The fact that LSU started at our 37 yard meant that all they had to do was run the ball in order to give their kicker more leeway and to burn the clock. I thought the latter was pretty obvious so I'm still wondering why Martinez didn't stack the line.
Absolute terrible call. That's alright though, Georgia exposed LSU as an overrated flawed team. Florida, with or without Tebow, is going to take huge dump in middle of Tiger Stadium and rub Les Miles face in it. Good luck next week you overrated Coon asses.
The SEC officials in this game need to be reprimanded or suspended. You can't blow calls like that because it f*cks the momentum of a team. At the same time Mark Richt has to much talent for only 1 sec championship in 9 years.
Look, I am a neutral party here, as a Michigan fan, but after repeated instances of poor interpretations by the referees of what is or is not 'excessive' celebration, I think it's time that they scrap the whole rule as it is currently written, and re-write it to include two and ONLY two reasonably excessive behaviors: Taunting an opponent, and clearing the bench while there is time remaining on the clock.
Regardless of whose side you're on, this is not the video to watch. The camera follows Anderson down at the critical point (around :16 second mark) when Green turns from teammates, looks at crowd, and bumps left fist against chest. LSU scored in 23 seconds, after 40+ yard return & poor GA tackling. GA did nothing in remaining :46, after only 10 yard return & throwing INT. Celebration penalty was stupid on both sides, but 15-yard penalty (reciprocated) didn't 'give' LSU this away win...period.
The call most certainly cost Georgia the game. The better field position gave LSU the option of running the ball. If thier field position had been worse, they would have been forced to throw with under a minute to go.
That was a crap call the the refs. I dont think that it lost GA the game cuz Scott would have ran that ball in from 100 yards out. Someone is going to have to do something about the celebration rule though, its getting out of hand. They should have just kept it the way it was and threw the flag on the players deserving of the penelty.
with a minute left and needing 20-30 yards to get into good field goal range? I doubt it. The penalty didn't cost UGA the game, but it certainly gave LSU a much better opportunity to win than they would have had without it.
That was a screw job by the refs, i don't care how the LSU fans try to shape it. It's like trying to put a bow tie on a turd, F those refs caused Georgia to lose that game.
More and more this crap happens in football these days and especially in the SEC. I call BS on these officials. These sort of "game changing" mistakes used to NEVER HAPPEN...now they happen every season, and in critical games. I think they are on the take. PERIOD.
23 seconds from the time aj green caught the TD and charles scott ran in for a touch down. LSU was called for the same penalty. Geogia was given 48 seconds to come back and do the same thing that we did in 23, but they had a poor return and threw a pick....think its obvious LSU won because they were better. yes it was a bogus call, but georgia had their chance.
We can argue all day about weither or not it cost UGA the game......the real beef I have is that the refs should not be involved in the discussion of the game at all. As a coach, good refs are ones you do not notice, and quietely do their job. UGA got shafted a lot more on the calls, but LSU also had one celebration call where are the guy did was point to the sky. When you call penalties that much, you need to reevaluate the reason for calling it in the first place.
omfg. I am so pissed. I couldnt tell what was going on from the stands with the ref. i thought it was like they thought his foot wasnt in or something, which I knew it was from my angle but whatever. But THIS?! I cant f-ing believe it.
it didn't matter, Georgia still couldn't stop Charles Scott, they still couldn't make the most out of the same exact call on LSU. Georgia still could have won the game, but they didn't capitalize on the same bullshit call.
So you're saying that it's the same situation? Not even close. The refs took away the possibility of a touchback. They took away the fact that Les Miles would have put the ball in the air instead of just trying to get in position to kick a field goal which Scott happened to break for a TD. No it's not the same thing and it absolutely affected the game. Period. His penalty was stupid make up call.
Did Georgia have to kick to Holliday, no, could Georgia have done a better job on kick coverage, yes, what about the stupid illegal formation penalty on the kickoff georgia committed that gave us better field position. What about not being able to stop Charles Scott, what about not being able to do in 40 seconds what LSU did in 29. You had the same exact opportunity LSU did, and YOU FAILED. Game Over See ya in 4 years.
Did UGA have to kick to Holliday? YES. Having to kick from the 15 means you take away any type of directional kick...you just have your kicker kick it as far as he can and hope your kickoff team produces it's best coverage of the year...and that's asking a lot against the nation's 100m dash champion. If y'all had started on your side of the field, you would've been throwing the ball. Who knows what would've happened...but the call definitely GREATLY affected the outcome!!
I can agree with that. Charles Scott got called for the same thing, he was pointing at the sky thanking God. The SEC refs are the worst in the world. Still didn't cost Georgia the game.
that was just silly. Who fucking calls that? They had another one earlier in the game for the tight end celebrating that was just as bad. Fucking stupid.
He didn't call attention to himself. He could barely do anything with his teammates all over him. If anything the flag should have been on team for taking up so much time after the play. But still there should have not been a flag.

Actually I think that the celebration penalty comes at the end of the video between the :26 and :28 seconds when Green threw his arms up to the crowd in celebration. Complete bullshit call. Dear Refs, thanks for being LSU's MVP. Sincerely,

they called it right after he jumped on his teammates
SMMSkid33 2 years ago
after TD's the first ting on the refs mind is getting the ball to line it up for the PAT, you see aj green drops the ball as his teammates come to celebrate with him. all i can think of is that when the ref was tryyin to break it all up it took more time than he wanted it to and finally just said alright thats enough. but with the circumstances of that game, and how big that TD was at that moment they had the right to celebrate. maybe next time just try to get to the sideline then celebrate.
HendrixClaptonSRV 2 years ago
that would be delay of game not excessive celebration
SMMSkid33 2 years ago
no it would be a celebration penalty. because the playclock hadnt even started yet.. they cant start it until they set the ball. and they couldnt set the ball if they were tryin to break up the celebration. theres no way it could be a delay of game.
HendrixClaptonSRV 2 years ago
i know. i'm saying what you're describing is a delay of game penalty. you said they were taking too much time celebrating. but its not the amount of time they took its somehow excessive celebration.
SMMSkid33 2 years ago
but im not describing a delay of game penalty! lol as i stated in my earlier post. and wha ti described is NOT a delay of game penalty because again the playclock had not started because the ball had not been set. i dont see how thats hard to figure out.
HendrixClaptonSRV 2 years ago
yeah dumb ref...he didn't even tackle the LSU player when he broke free from the UGA defense and scored the game winning touchdown. I can't believe that ref!!!
jjherrington 2 years ago
what was the penalty....he literally just ran like ten feet and got swarmed by teammates. this is why the excessive celebration penalties need to go. they ruin the game and unfairly determine the outcome. if a bunch of dumb fucks in their offices try to take the emotion and excitement out of college football it will just continue to ruin the sport. fuck you, NCAA

I thought the latter was pretty obvious so I'm still wondering why Martinez didn't stack the line.

lol Green didn't even celbrate. He was trying to escape his own teammates. Sad.

"Bad call: SEC officials find fault in excessive celebration penalty"
SEC officials admit it was a bad call
UGAZTA 2 years ago
Absolute terrible call. That's alright though, Georgia exposed LSU as an overrated flawed team. Florida, with or without Tebow, is going to take huge dump in middle of Tiger Stadium and rub Les Miles face in it. Good luck next week you overrated Coon asses.
The SEC officials in this game need to be reprimanded or suspended. You can't blow calls like that because it f*cks the momentum of a team. At the same time Mark Richt has to much talent for only 1 sec championship in 9 years.
jharper197915 2 years ago
Look, I am a neutral party here, as a Michigan fan, but after repeated instances of poor interpretations by the referees of what is or is not 'excessive' celebration, I think it's time that they scrap the whole rule as it is currently written, and re-write it to include two and ONLY two reasonably excessive behaviors: Taunting an opponent, and clearing the bench while there is time remaining on the clock.
shadytnu24 2 years ago
Regardless of what either side COULD have done, this call was bullshit, and both sides know it.

Yes LSU probably would have been running the ball with or without the penelty. Their passing game wasn't very good
bamaman6985 2 years ago
Regardless of whose side you're on, this is not the video to watch. The camera follows Anderson down at the critical point (around :16 second mark) when Green turns from teammates, looks at crowd, and bumps left fist against chest. LSU scored in 23 seconds, after 40+ yard return & poor GA tackling. GA did nothing in remaining :46, after only 10 yard return & throwing INT. Celebration penalty was stupid on both sides, but 15-yard penalty (reciprocated) didn't 'give' LSU this away win...period.

jabariduportemartin 2 years ago
The call most certainly cost Georgia the game. The better field position gave LSU the option of running the ball. If thier field position had been worse, they would have been forced to throw with under a minute to go.
bpsnow 2 years ago
the jerk off ref called the penalty because they accidentally ran into him during the celebration.
wow grow up douche bag ref!
firstresponder522 2 years ago
That was a crap call the the refs. I dont think that it lost GA the game cuz Scott would have ran that ball in from 100 yards out. Someone is going to have to do something about the celebration rule though, its getting out of hand. They should have just kept it the way it was and threw the flag on the players deserving of the penelty.
bamaman6985 2 years ago
So, LSU would have been running the ball
with a minute left and needing 20-30 yards to get into good field goal range? I doubt it. The penalty didn't cost UGA the game, but it certainly gave LSU a much better opportunity to win than they would have had without it.
kylepj78 2 years ago
That was a screw job by the refs, i don't care how the LSU fans try to shape it. It's like trying to put a bow tie on a turd, F those refs caused Georgia to lose that game.

More and more this crap happens in football these days and especially in the SEC. I call BS on these officials. These sort of "game changing" mistakes used to NEVER HAPPEN...now they happen every season, and in critical games. I think they are on the take. PERIOD.
DirOfTheObv 2 years ago
23 seconds from the time aj green caught the TD and charles scott ran in for a touch down. LSU was called for the same penalty. Geogia was given 48 seconds to come back and do the same thing that we did in 23, but they had a poor return and threw a pick....think its obvious LSU won because they were better. yes it was a bogus call, but georgia had their chance.

crappy call but your defense still should have stopped them at the end.
clemtiger117 2 years ago
We can argue all day about weither or not it cost UGA the game......the real beef I have is that the refs should not be involved in the discussion of the game at all. As a coach, good refs are ones you do not notice, and quietely do their job. UGA got shafted a lot more on the calls, but LSU also had one celebration call where are the guy did was point to the sky. When you call penalties that much, you need to reevaluate the reason for calling it in the first place.

#59 Nickels is taunting the LSU player at the end, they may have said Green but they could clearly call Nickels for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Do you really believe that? Could you SEE Nickels taunting a player? Maybe your vision is better than mine. I didn't see him taunt anybody.

omfg. I am so pissed. I couldnt tell what was going on from the stands with the ref. i thought it was like they thought his foot wasnt in or something, which I knew it was from my angle but whatever. But THIS?! I cant f-ing believe it.
RumorGoddess 2 years ago 2
it didn't matter, Georgia still couldn't stop Charles Scott, they still couldn't make the most out of the same exact call on LSU. Georgia still could have won the game, but they didn't capitalize on the same bullshit call.
jlfryar1 2 years ago
So you're saying that it's the same situation? Not even close. The refs took away the possibility of a touchback. They took away the fact that Les Miles would have put the ball in the air instead of just trying to get in position to kick a field goal which Scott happened to break for a TD. No it's not the same thing and it absolutely affected the game. Period. His penalty was stupid make up call.
mmixon 2 years ago
Did Georgia have to kick to Holliday, no, could Georgia have done a better job on kick coverage, yes, what about the stupid illegal formation penalty on the kickoff georgia committed that gave us better field position. What about not being able to stop Charles Scott, what about not being able to do in 40 seconds what LSU did in 29. You had the same exact opportunity LSU did, and YOU FAILED. Game Over See ya in 4 years.
jlfryar1 2 years ago
Did UGA have to kick to Holliday? YES. Having to kick from the 15 means you take away any type of directional kick...you just have your kicker kick it as far as he can and hope your kickoff team produces it's best coverage of the year...and that's asking a lot against the nation's 100m dash champion. If y'all had started on your side of the field, you would've been throwing the ball. Who knows what would've happened...but the call definitely GREATLY affected the outcome!!
ugadawg520 2 years ago
Almost as bad as the non-facemask call late in the SC - NCSU game. The SEC needs to get some things straightened out.
tafari127 2 years ago
SEC refs suck balls. Tim Brando has it right, it is a racially motivated call. How many times does the Holy one Tim Tebow get away with much worse?
nekkeddawg 2 years ago 7
I can agree with that. Charles Scott got called for the same thing, he was pointing at the sky thanking God. The SEC refs are the worst in the world. Still didn't cost Georgia the game.

He didn't call attention to himself. He could barely do anything with his teammates all over him. If anything the flag should have been on team for taking up so much time after the play. But still there should have not been a flag.
