  • Firstly coach, what you forget to mention is the D back always watches the receivers legs and then moves accordingly. If you watch the combine in the D backs versus receiver drills you always see them testing the D back's reaction to where the receiver is going it's their job to watch the feet and break right or left. You say the D back commits to stopping a specific route when the D back can only really take away 2 types of routes the deep and short routes D backs can play inside or outside

  • The D backs play inside or outside for instance if the d back is playing up to the line of scrimmage he's looking to stop the short route and looking for help from a safety if the receiver is going deep or looking to break right or left where ever the receiver cuts to on the short slant. All this is according to the type of Defense as well. Cover 2 always relies on safety help.
