Hahahah "full race" the cam sounds stock, and you need to recheck that lash. I hope you didnt use the stock 66 head, cause youre giving up power right there. Taking .100 of the head MAYBE got you 9.25 to 1. Still a nice car,and the hyper pack looks cool.
Yeah, hardly full race. Sure gives credibility to Larry's sales ability over at Clifford's, though. Doug Dutra, the guru of /6, says that a extremely good running 225 will make a little over 200hp. If you want more you'll have to give up the automatic (cam will idle too high) or turbo it. Well this ain't turbocharged, and I didn't notice a shifter knob. Sure, it's the coolest looking thing at a car meet, but a lighter Australian 265 crate engine will give you 270hp and over 25mpg. Justa thought.
Best slant joke ever guys! Whenever I take one of my girls to the shows and get asked whats under the hood I say " Well I had a V12 but some guy took half the block!"
IT IS NOT"FULL RACE". IT IS A SLANT 6 WITH A HYPER PACK FOUR BARREL, CAM,I THINK IS '272', DUAL EXHAUST , 8 3/4 REAR END, 3.27 GEARS. CHRYSLER BUILT THESE BACK IN THE EARLY '60's FOR "JR. STOCK" RACING.
WHICH WERE SIXES BUILT FOR STOCK CAR RACING !!! THE 170 C.I. PUT OUT 200 H.P. !! THERE WAS ALSO AN ALUMINUM HEAD MOTOR MADE, AND I THINK AN ALL ALUMINUM MOTOR !! A STOCK 225 SLANT 6 GETS 145 H.P. !! A HYPER PACK 225 , 4 BARREL,DUAL EXHAUST, CAM, .060 BORE,WILL GET THE SAME H.P. AS A 340 C.I. !!
@420weedking That had to been pre emissions because my 225 came rated from the factory with 90 hp 180 lbs trqe, and the super had 110 and 200, The aluminum blocks are super rare and were only in the first year or two of the valiants in the states. Im just stating whats in my factory service manuals from 1980. They put the aluminum heads on the mid 80's but when i build my coupe its still gonna have the cast iron head so if it overheats all i gotta do is replace a gasket and not the whole head

@notanova if you know of an aluminum head for a slant besides the 2 or 3 old experimental ones kicking around let us all know. aluminum heads were never in production.
@420weedking there was only one all aluminum known to ever been assembled. but there were a few aluminum heads made. and a bunch of aluminum blocks. just kinda hard to find one in usable condition.
Merill Bruner had a '62 Valiant w/slant six that I saw run an 11.88 at Bristol years ago. Naturally aspirated. He'd talk all day with you about everything on the car except the head. Amazing how much can be milled from a s/6 head.
@underdogwalker9 if it don't tick there's something wrong with it lol! I've got an 80 Aspen with a 225 that clatters like a diesel and doesn't use or burn a drop of oil and I also have an 80 Volare that ticks till she gets warm, try driving yours for a couple hour cruise on the interstate and when you stop at an off ramp at least an hour in I bet it'll be the quietest you've ever hear your tower lolz
@tt1512 Im gonna do the hyperpack to my 67 dart this summer, cant wait. Was it a noticeable power gain after the modification? Btw nice valiant its super clean.
its pretty nice, I'm an A-body fan & a slant 6 nut. This is not an insult, but I personally wouldnt follow hot rod or pattern any build after them for a slant 6. Youd be better off with advice from Mopar Action or something from the slant 6 club or Doug Dutra. But once again, very very nice Slant 6 Mopar !
@1995MartinD40FMG Head is shaved .100", torque monster cam, oversized valves and heavy duty springs. 4 bbl carb. etc, etc,.. Check out Hot Rod magazine article entitled " Slant Sickness" it will answer all your questi. I havent dyno'd it but i know i more than doubled the horse power.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs + injection and tank clean and rustfree

Hey , forget the asses that say "Hey get a v8". The ones that say "why didn't you just...." will never get it. Nice slant 6 buddy! Wish I had one! That leanin tower sounds better than most v8's IMO. Keep on Slantin' The engine that deserves so much more respect from others. Not everyone likes only v8's. What a humble workhorse of an engine. Gotta love that diesel like low end
@tt1512 everyone loves the slants, but for some reason they are rare as hell to see in a performance car/truck...
damm things are bullitproof... i heard of one they drove for about an hour with literally no rad in it... they just stuck a pipe in between the 2 rad hoses and drove it home after the rad blew out
@mageac I've overheated my slant so many time when the rad was plugged that I actually thought about doing just that! You wouldnt believe the heat they can take! I know of a slant that was drove for 6 years on 5 cyl because #3 had a hole the size of a qtr in the piston. They are just like rock and roll they wont never die!
@ispyder9 ehh I looked through there.....I didn't really see anything I liked, except for that aluminum head that gives like 40 extra horses. I think I've all but dropped the Maverick project idea, I drove a Jeep Wrangler with a 4.0 six and a 5 speed and I can say I fell in love.
sounds like a v8 when idling and thats weird thats a plymouth it has the bodystyle like a 66 dodge dart cause i have the same body style but its dodge
In Canada these "dodges" were partially built in the States, then sent to Canada for final assembly and badged as Plymouth Valiants in this case a "Signet"(the equivalent of a Dodge Dart GT). This explains the two VIN tags(one under the hood and one on the forward door opening left side. They are identical except for the badging .
Actually most of the performance parts on this engine come from Clifford Performance 6=8. They deal in performance modifications for six cylinder vehicles .Anything from Ford, Chrysler,GM etc
