Katy does have a special fun voice, but if I were to choose between them, I would definitely go with Kelly for this song. I love them both, but Kelly has the stronger voice and I think that it suits her more.
To me, It seems as though, Kelly is just singing the words. With Katy, I feel like she feels the lyrics, believes what she's actually singing.. although that may be because she actually wrote the song.

Kelly's voice is more technically perfect, but Katy did write this song and I think her version is more raw and her own, whereas Kelly's seems more generic. Both great, but I personally prefer Katy's.
maybe katy's not the best voice, but she is a complete singer .. she makes her own music, and she doesn't need to copy anybody else :)..

I think it's important to understand that Katy's version is an independent demo version while Kelly's is a fully produced, backed by a major record label, professional recording. Obviously, Kelly's is going to be more polished.
I enjoy Katy, but I love Kelly. If the songs were at an even playing field, I'd probably still prefer Kelly's.

PS -- Long Shot is a great song, but it goes on too long at the beginning before hitting the chorus, and you don't really notice it on Kelly's studio version because she does it so well -- and studio effects help. You only notice it on Katy's version. I used to chalk it up to Katy's annoying singing voice, but the song really does just go on too long, especially at the beginning, and does get annoyingly monotonous -- without studio help. It's prolly why Kelly only sang it live once or twice.
And if there is so much as a molecule of cigarette smoke or cigarettes mentioned in any songs on her latest album (haven't checked yet) or any videos resulting from this album, she will move from being on my shit list to being on my permanent shit list.
Katy Perry is an excellent songwriter, but she makes my ears bleed with her singing. She dissed KC twice in the past, too, once in a radio interview when she said something like KC should stick with doing National Anthems, and once again in a radio interview when she was in Barbados with KC and said something about, "We're all here getting FAT" and it was so obviously a diss at KC the way she said it, so fuck her. I think that the video doesn't give Katy a fair chance. You can hear the quality changing especially if you have good earphones. Kelly has good sound quality and Katy only has fair.

@awesomeS123 I get that she sings with a lot of personality but it can get very difficult to listen to at times. I listened to five seconds of this video and heard Katy's singing and I was cringing TBH. When I listen to songs I want to hear a good, controlled voice not an up and down crazy not really professional voice...just my opinion. Personality doesn't equal singing talent and Katy is a singer so I think she should tone it down a little bit in her songs so it's more listenable.
I wouldn't say that Katy lacks talent, but her talent probably lies in the realm of producing hit songs. However, her singing abilities obviously cannot be compared to Kelly's.
Trust me, They DO NOT FIX lol Clarkson's voice. She is the real DEAL in the studio and live. If anyone gets a voice fixin or airbrushed vocally in the studio recording its Katy. I think that the video doesn't give Katy a fair chance. You can hear the quality changing especially if you have good earphones. Kelly has good sound quality and Katy only has fair.

Welll, I kinda like Katy's better Because it doesnt really like that "pop" sound thta most singers have these days. You can kinda tell Kelly's have been editted like the sound like its more "pop" and stuff like that. But i like Katy's better but its your opinion.

@awesomeS123 I get that she sings with a lot of personality but it can get very difficult to listen to at times. I listened to five seconds of this video and heard Katy's singing and I was cringing TBH. When I listen to songs I want to hear a good, controlled voice not an up and down crazy not really professional voice...just my opinion. Personality doesn't equal singing talent and Katy is a singer so I think she should tone it down a little bit in her songs so it's more listenable.

I wouldn't say that Katy lacks talent, but her talent probably lies in the realm of producing hit songs. However, her singing abilities obviously cannot be compared to Kelly's.

Trust me, They DO NOT FIX lol Clarkson's voice. She is the real DEAL in the studio and live. If anyone gets a voice fixin or airbrushed vocally in the studio recording its Katy. Kelly Clarkson can just sing period. SHE IS RAW TALENT. In other words, If I seen her on the street she could sing just like it was the real recording.

Kelly can actually sing, were Katy cant really. Dont get me wrong, I love Katy Perry, but she has bearly any talent, but Kelly won American Idol.

just the fact that katy sings the original version makes it so much better. you all know katy is sounding the way she does in this song on purpose right? that's what I like about her version. it has so much feeling as opposed to kelly's version (which is also really good)

Kelly's is studio mastered while Katy's is a demo that she personally created and this was Katy's song that she sold to kelly. Katy made a video for this song but she didn't get big till i kissed a girl.

Kelly Clarkson's version is better by A MILE!!! However this song is more of Katy putting her own unique spin on it which fine. But she doesn't hit those big notes as well as Kelly. Vocally, Kelly absolutely knocks this song into outer space and beyond!

Katy knows what to do! She gave it to someone who knew could work it, All the songs Katy sings go perfect for herself, I like the almost care free sound of Katy's voice, it's so raw, Kelly's voice is just more polished than Katy's it's cleaner but they make a good team!

I like both ways. Katy's seems a little bit more fun, I'm not that big of a Kelly Clarkson fan. The only reason Kelly's sounds a bit better is because she needed to sound more perfessional, Katy's sounds more just for fun.
