I learned mandolin a few years ago, and my teacher said I was the only student he'd ever had who actually wanted to learn music theory, rather than just be given a few songs to learn/strum.
:P.
And thank you for uploading these lessos; I brought a guitar today, and went straight to your lessons because your banjo lessons were so helpful when I was learning banjo lol :P.
This is really useful! I jump between flatpick and finger style for different things. I would like to build up the techniques shown and develop an ear for the notes through scales so I can work things out. Started to learn some tunes from grade 3 classical guitar book as I Iike both classical and spanish music as well as folk bluegrass blues etc..Everything that is acoustic!. Is a thumb pick worth sticking with then if I want to play fingerstyle on steel string guitars in the long run?
@sightsizemethod I would say, listen to your favorite players and do as they do. My favorite fingerstyle players used thumbpicks, so I did, I have more definition with one, especially on single line work.
Use this link, practice half hour a day, with the practice companion A to each lesson, 1 thru 7, and when you're done, go back and practice with companion B videos.
You should be 10 times as good as you are in 10 weeks.
a week ago, my parents bought me a guitar and I learned some chords (like 3). do you believe that the size of my guitar affects my guitar learning? my fist step was, tune my guitar by myself, i really wannt to play the guitar!
I'm 17 years old, do you think i'm too old to play the guitar?
yes at last i found a great teacher can you be my guitar sensei? :) i play in a band, i always thinking im not a good guitarist in a band and i never know a scale just relying on a guitar tab so my guitar skill are poor. Thanks for the C scale video :) i will watch all your lessons to be a good guitarist
I will have the names to all of the chords and scales coming out in a few days. Don't worry about those lessons until you have learned all the chords and scales, then, you can go back and learn the names. Thanks for the kind words.
I have recently seen your videos i liked them very much. But I have a question i.e, can we do the same on a acoustic guitar because your guitar sounds terrific but not mine.
For those who are confused, Tom is one of my online students. I usually will dig through a plate of Spaghetti during his lesson, or slam a couple of cheese burgers.
Thanks teatcher. I wish I had had a guitar teacher like that a long time ago, then I would be a little better and have more dates. Okay I am going to go practice this a little.
BY JORGE, I THINK EYES GOTTIT. COOL INSTRUCTION. I think I am going to try to do a cover of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" without cheating and looking at a music sheet or tabs. then I'll put it up on YouTube. If it passes with your approval then can I go on to the next lesson? Ok? ok.
Many of my students are professional guitarists. They study this stuff too. Knowing the chords isn't the only thing that counts. Knowing the progressions cold, so that you can play what you hear is the trick. Practice these exercises, and it will boost your ability to ad-lib, no matter how good you already are. Its funny, anyone who plays well extemporaneously has never said anything bad about my method. They know this is how you do it. They may have a slightly different spin, but they get it.
Dude looks like a '70s pornstar.

@raatikainen2 wes montgomery learned at the age of 19. as long as your motives are right, no age is too old for learning anything

what i mean in that last post was:
Are you in standard tuning?
osity 3 years ago
is your guitar in tune? it doesn't sound like it. Please let me know.
osity 3 years ago
It is tuned a tad sharp. My videos have been pirated by many companies and have been sold. Hopefully this discourages them.
My online students have access to the lessons in 440, but those who study with these, simply tune a small interval sharp.
You can use the tuning guide at the beginning of the video series. Just follow the links back in the video response.
It's worth the small effort of retuning. It's good practice too.
