Got themselves out of a jam, so so speak, around, 5:00. Love both Bruce's solo and his swinging fingerstyle accompaniment, bang on the 2 and the 4. A great player like Rik Emmett is doing well to hang in there. If I'd been there, I'd a' been wearing a baguette.
The berets were just props. Rik says "We've got our little berets",in honour of the fact that they were going to play "Nuages" by Django Reinhardt who, although a gypsy born in Belgium, performed in Paris for many years. They were just having a bit of fun with it.
He is only wearing a red barrette (sp?) if he were a guardian angel that barrette would have a Guardian Angel patch for identification plus that bright t shirt of theirs I believe..
Cool thing about Bruce is how diverse his guitar playing skill is. This video proves that. He can finger pick with the best of them, jazz, blues, and he can rock out on the electric when he wants to. I think Cockburn and Lindsay Buckingham are two of the most underrated guitar players around.
I simply liked this very very much... it's outside the genre of what I normally listen to and play. I haven't heard any Bruce Coburn since "Dancin' In The Dragon's Jaws", so you can understand my surprise. Even though I haven't followed Coburn for many years, his name keeps popping up so...
Well, the song is actually french... By Django Reinhardt, who was a gipsy. Don't know where your reference to Brazil comes from, I hear Hot Club swing jazz all the way.
You're right. It definitely is swing. The melody line and some of the harmonic structue reminds me of Musica Popular do Brasil, wich includes Bossa Nova, although they were not playing a Bossa Nova rhythm. Incidentally, I appreciate your listening to Bruce who owns a home near ours. I am looking forward to seeing him in December.
awesome - i remember as a kid, scanning the TV guide to see when this would air on CHCH channel 11 in Hamilton... I had blocked out any memory of those hats thankfully
Wow -- this is great! I've seen Bruce Cockburn live a few times and Triumph many times...I never would have dreamed of putting Rik and Bruce together. Bruce is one of my favorites and his guitar playing is amazing.
they should have called this the Beret sessions

Bruce is my favorite musician in the world, but I gotta say the Rocket outplays him here. Thanks for a great video!

I vow to correct that!

A little Brazilian influence, but not Cockburn's strong suit. Sounded mostly like noodling, although I liked Bruce's run at the end.

No matter what they're wearing Cocburn simple shames Emmet.
Emmett sureley frames himself as a try hard in the hands of a true master.

@5:01 Bruce fucks up because he is trying to show off during Rik's solo. He is an attention hog.

I love Bruce, but I'm not so crazy about those leather pants. This is a sweet piece.

Nice work, COCK-burn. Notes were crystal clear and note one was wasted. Fluid, clean, sweet...
