  • Gr8 footage! Thank you for sharing, makes my day!

  • Love Miles Davis! Love Jeanne Moreau! Oh lawd the music in this movie does something to me! I watch this movie over and OVER again!

  • Jeanne, Miles and Louis in the 50's. Cool chemistry.

  • I know for sure that Boris Vian played in this soundtrack.....

  • Astoinishing! I have loved this film and its amazing soundtrack for as long as i can remember, but have never seen this before!

  • @TheRickynow Mesmerizing, isn't it? Unfortunately I can't understand French. But I think Louis Malle says there wasn't previous rehearsa. Miles was playing just watching the scene. A fantastic ad lib play. This is one of my favourite uploading.

  • Three beauties adorn this post... music, woman and man-musician/magician!!!!!

One has to be careful...not to not get drawn in....

  • I love how the cigarette smoke casually wafts around Miles as he plays.

  • Great post! I read in Miles' book that this was how they recorded this soundtrack, but I never knew that there was actually footage of it. Thanks!

  • This is so beautiful; I had no idea this existed. Thank you so much for posting this! :-D

  • Oh yeah...

  • @1v4nSMF1lh0

Pensei que era um gringo. Mas não é que vc é meu conterrâneo ?!

  • @SophyaAgain

    Parabéns pelo bom gosto...

  • Would someone please translate this? Please ?

  • @42Kissess OK, I will do my best :

    - What's happening exactly ?

    - Well, it's the American musician Miles Davis who is improvising on the pictures of my movie, Elevator to the Gallows.

    - You mean he is watching the images, and he plays trumpet according to these images ?

    - Yes, I mean, that's images he knows because he saw the movie, and we talked about what we could do, and with his permission, we show him the images and he records.

    - He didn't write any score ?

  • @42Kissess

    - Absolutely not.

    - As it comes to him ?

    - Yes.

    - He would have come tomorrow, the music would have been different ?

    - Yes, and even from one take to another, it's different.

    - What a nice performance. But I think, Louis Malle, that first of all, I should introduce you. You are Louis Malle, you are 25, right ?

    - Yes.

    - You are the youngest French director, and if people don't really know about you, they've all seen one of your movies, Silent world.

  • @42Kissess

    - How did you come to make that movie, Silent world ?

    - Well, I worked with Cousteau.

    - Were you on his boat as a diver or as a filmmaker ?

    - Both, as well as photograph during a few years, and as we saw extraordinary things, we had the idea to make a feature film, film artistically and makes it a movie.

    - And that's thanks to that movie that you gained the right to make your first romanticized motion picture ?

    - Yes.

    - Has it been difficult ?

  • @42Kissess

    - Yes, but I did it thanks to the very kind people I worked with, so it went very smoothly.

    - Do you feel like you're breaking everything ?

    - What do you mean ?

    - Do you feel you're making something new ?

    - I'm just trying to conquer some sort of liberty, a technical liberty as a financial liberty against international super productions which are paralysing us.

It's only a sum up, but I can make a detailed one if you wish.

  • @Ainolan Thanks very kindly!

  • @Ainolan Thank you very much. I always wanted to know what Malle was talking.

  • magnifique_ a voir et revoir et re-entendre....

  • like like and more like

  • Brilliant this video!! Love Miles and you can see that he isn't playing it!! That's fucking awesome!!

  • Miles Davis - keepin' it hot by playin' it cool...

  • Tres impressionant!

  • So sexy and the way it's shot is spectacular - x a legend x

  • There are tears in my eyes right now listening to this!

  • the trumpet is smoking cuz that sound is so hot!

  • sans rien juste lui ...

  • cool stuff, really cool...

  • This is the kind of music that when you hear it for the first time your life will never be the same again.

  • Thank's for posting this gem.

I have the score (perhaps the best ever made) and saw the movie but never saw Miles actually improvising while watching the movie.

    Absolute genius, beyond words.

  • Youre welcome, colpadrian.

Im so much obliged to person who got this video available on the net.

I was so delighted when I found it !!

I think the film would lose its spell without Miles performance.

  • @SophyaAgain This video disappeared for awhile I think. I remember wanting to watch it and it was missing. Glad to see it is back!

  • The movie is a success becasue of:

1.The teenagers who kill the germans

    2. as usual Jeanne Moreau, her first masterpiece...Jules et jim and La notte, couple of other achivments.

    3. Miles Davis Improv makes this film hipnotic and unforgetable.

    The master
