My mother's side of my family were some of the original zoarites to come from Germany .Hard to think they may move zoar to another location because of the condition of the levee that protects the town from the flood waters of the tuscarawas river.I think this would be a terrible thing and would ruin the town.
This was a nice history lesson! BTW: We spend about half of our life in a Mennonite area in Canada. There are also Hutterites in the area. I have a lot of respect for them. They really seem to get how to thrive even if the country goes through strange economic circumstances. When I was in Syracuse, I learned that Erie Blvd. was the old Erie Canal cemented over. So it's nice to know about the Ohio extension of the canal concept.
I have very good memories of visits to Zoar with my family in Ohio in the early '70s. I've always thought of this place and wondered what's up with it. I am in Europe now to get healthcare. My best to you, and I hope you see my two YT channels and I am on Dailymotion, too.
