Now this is a REAL video game. They really over complicate shit these days with all the terrible games that come out. Back in the days you walked to the right, and everything that got in your way-you WHUP IT'S ASS
if i'm correct he got promoted or retired, he can be seen in some scenes, but no longer a playerable char, his kid if i'm right is in Streets of rage 3.. =)
I love Streets of Rage 1&2 with all my heart. I remember my mom buying me SOR 1 for my b-day in 91 and me and my wife met in 5th grade and bonded afterschool with playthroughs of this , Earthbound and Gunstar Heroes. When me and her got married in 2005, we requested that my buddy, the DJ who mostly was going to play hip-hop and old school R&B, play the this tune, Go Straight, the intro theme and Dreamer as well. My wife and her sister stole the show working it to this song.
Ahhhhhhhh what happened to Yuzo Koshiro?! I know he went on to make game music on consoles after the snes and genesis but you never hear aboot those tunes! or am i stuck in the early 90s?
lol how long has it been since i heard this wonderful piece of video game music, had my first genesis when i was 5 and this was one of my first game's. hard to believe how fast the years can go bye huh guy's, oh lol and girl's?
@ZoneMilliardo Lol yeah this game has a killer soundtrack, and i played this when i was 4 on my brother's sega before i had my own and im 15 now, well just turned 16 today lol
Japan bro, neo japan during the NWO, beautiful in its standing neon and romantic urban underlying deterioration, fighting evil authority with the best a friends.
Me too... I play when im a little kid...mmm... i have 7 years when i play it... My cousin dont let me play, and when we play, he goes crazy when i call the police attack when dont must to do it haahahahahaha...
Just too funky, too groovin and too smooth. This is what gaming was about, not only could you physically enjoy the gameplay, but you could get down while doing it allowing pleasure to your eyes and ears. Get down Yuzo, the kids today have no idea what they missed. At least the Next Gen consoles have access to all 3 SOR'S. But blowing the cartridge, that's the way lol
@funkflash Blowing tht cartridge until you got a freaking headache haha! I so miss those days, When you did that. ^^ and Streets of Rage was so Awesome I have beaten is several times and I regret selling my Sega with all my games! Damn parents fault! :(
@Zemtex2451 Oh my God I remember blowing the cartridge so much as a kid! The game wouldn't work for some reason. Whip it out, blow into the bottom and it magically worked every time. Wonderful days.
I hate to rain on your parade but most games have soundtracks for a reason.
Yeah, Burnout had some shit but it was supposed to have music you'd find on the radio because it strived to emulate a modern American city to play in. To say only the Japanese understand music is really close minded and incredibly weabooish.
Your argument is even worse since EA isn't a developer, they're a publisher
@ExtremeBogom Well yeah for games like GTA, or Saints Row using stuff you'd hear on the radios (and the good stuff at that, a lot of music today sucks) it fits just right. Unfortunately however games, and game music in general aren't too innovative like they were back in the day- because so many studios think about money first now, as the game industry has become just as big if not a bit bigger than the movie industry.
@ExtremeBogom Not all developers, and future developers think money first though which is good. I started playing games when I was 7 (that's when I got my first NES hehe)- I'm 30 now still game, but I'm working on my own stuff now (graphic novel and games). One of the things I said is, I want to make gamers my age a bit older and younger (25-50.. Yea I know 50yo who still game) remember why they fell in love with it, and show new and younger gamers why we became gamers.
@ExtremeBogom First project being worked on is a beat-em-up style, giving it the look of KOFXIII going to be a HELL of a lot of work to achieve that look, but I strongly feel it will be worth it. I've wished to see a remake of a Double Dragon, Final Fight, or this looking like that, or Street Fighter III, and I've been disappointed it hasn't been done, so me and my team are doing our own. Keep and eye out for Epidemic of Violence- kinda modeled main man after Uri Boyka a bit ha ^_^
i used to always love beating the shit out of the level 3 boss(ultimate warrior ripoff).i would throw him back and forth and when hes about to die, his final seconds after he stands but is about to fall back down, i call the cop to shoot the rocket launcher just to make his death even more brutal.
This game and many more are the BEST Sega Genesis games. When i played this i was 3 or 4, but i actually had the 6-Pak game which includes: Streets Of Rage, Sonic The Hedgehog, Columns, Golden Axe, Revenge Of Shinobi,& Super Hang-On. I wonder if Sega, Capcom, Namco, and Sony came and worked together for alot of games. Tekken of Namco, Street Fighter of Capcom, Sonic The Hedgehog of Sega, and PS of Sony.
Yeah this was one of the best stages musically wise on the game, but the whole game really had good music. Brings back so many memories of my childhood....Makes you feel a bit sad at times knowing games aren't made like this any more...
if u go on this music on the saga megadrive and keep pressing the button on this song a few times it plays without the backing beat & it sounds even better! try it!

My Sega was ruined in a flood. I beat SOR once in my lifetime. Never played 2 or 3, just the original. Blowing the old cartridge. Sigh the days.
ShinobiXRevived 1 year ago
Possibly the best track in the game, it just keeps getting better as it goes on.
I don't think a tune in a game has fitted the level quite as much as this foes, it goes perfectly with the beach at night, the waves etc...

Absolutely man.
Back then, they had composers create the soundtrack specifically for the game.
Too many US companies use trashy radio music for the games (burnout anybody?). It's fine for some, but there's no originality.
Too bad the old *Rare* games company is no more either (thanks MS)...
The Japanese however, still make games with original music. They understand video games a lot better.
Capcom, Konami, SEGA, Namco. Still going strong. Keep supporting them people. Fuck EA.

Oh I'm aware. A BIG one at that.
That's the reason I hate them. They want their cover on the front, and their cover ALONE, fooling kids into thinking EA make all the big games.
I do realize some games have "radio music" though, as you said. But I still prefer original compositions.
That's all I'm saying.
