One reason could be, you actually have real friends on here that care less about what your videos are but you rather them be "friends" not "contacts" because they're friends not just your weed contact. Subscriptions are more like your contact, you're connected to their videos.
You can also have it so non friends from PM-ing you.
In the old days, you use to subscribe to someone when you wanted to see when their new videos came out. You added someone as a friend to see what they favorited, commented, and rated on.
Now you can see all that by subscribing, so adding friends is pointless.

Much of it has to do with the time involved in building those friends lists and another issue is that some actually used the friends list to contact or keep tabs on people which is better done with subscriptions but yt chose the friends feature not us. Maybe a wiser choice on yt part may have been to convert the friends to mutual subscriptions.
The contact list does'nt work, I lost 5,250 friends YT last week. There's no way of contacting any of these any more(I've tried, no response), they have all gone, period! YT is heading for changes & payments. The YT is unsafe as most information is hidden from view & has to be carefully searched for. No Video can ever go viral again.When you click on a video it takes you away from your page. Only big users paying agents to find subs will progress on YT. Everyone has lost, YT is finished, RIP.

I get what you are saying with friends lists, I still think they are a nice feature. One thing I do think is that youtube is basically a social networking site like facebook, so many people do use youtube just like facebook. I agree with the ghost accounts being rid of on here soon. Doesn't make sense having them on here. It wastes resources that youtube's servers run on. Friendslist - I found many good channels, because I got an invitation. If you have friends, your channel is on their page, others find your channel and your videos get more views, they also subscribe to your channel. If there is no such thing as friendslist, you get crapload of spam PMs and spammers also going to spam your channel's comment box too. There was another option, "only friends can PM me". If there is no friends list, spammers PM you.
Shut up about CorpTube and start telling your fans to follow your rants on BlipTV, DM, Veoh or something. You have loyal fans, they might give sites that aren't sellouts a chance. My friend's list was the handful of people (about a dozen) that reached out to me on numerous occasions, interacted with me, and made content that I truly loved. It was not a list made for others to see, but it was something I enjoyed for myself. It was list of people on this website whom I trusted implicitly.
It's like the "about me" (which will be the next feature to go). It's a feature each individual benefits from in their own way, rather than the collective hivemind.

I think its good they got rid of friends list personally, as many people used that instead of subscribers. If you like someone's videos and/or if you are their friend, you should SUBSCRIBE to them, not FRIEND them. I know someone in particular that had about 200+ friends but only subscribed to a few channels, and almost all of them were channels that didnt need any more subscribers (more than most) but his friends with only a few dozen, hundred, or thousand subs, didnt subscribe to any of them.
I said the same exact thing when I watched this video back. It's just the lighting and a shadow. I don't get why it would be different this time as I am sitting in the same spot and using the same amount of lighting. Oh well.
The only way friends list are useful is because it's like being mutually subscribed to somebody unlike subscriptions which work one way. It's useful to little channels more.
What I don't get is that why do they give us the option to have Contacts, but then completely do nothing to show them or do anything with them. I did like the friends with to see people I didn't want to sub to, but want to see vids they like.
And I heard about the account purging as well. I heard it was going to happen on the 12th. If they do do it, I applaud them. If they do it and leave the accounts subbed to the top whores, I won't be surprised.
There's severe functionality lost. A lot of my friends I talk to through YouTube, and now scrolling through them is a major pain. Instead of seeing their icons, you see their names in a long list (which is a major thing to sort through when you have over 200 friends-I-mean-contacts).
The friends list is completely pointless. But I don't see why people hate the new layout - it's far superior to that horrible excuse for an interface they had before. The "full" Cosmic Panda was a bit of a nightmare, though. Slow, Confusing to navigate and ugly.

@jammy2600 you can disable all of that stuff by clicking the top right and select settings then sharing. I think they should be disabled by default and youtube ask if we want to enable it, not the other way around, but it can totally be disabled if you choose.

Friendslist - I found many good channels, because I got an invitation. If you have friends, your channel is on their page, others find your channel and your videos get more views, they also subscribe to your channel. If there is no such thing as friendslist, you get crapload of spam PMs and spammers also going to spam your channel's comment box too. There was another option, "only friends can PM me". If there is no friends list, spammers PM you.

My friend's list was the handful of people (about a dozen) that reached out to me on numerous occasions, interacted with me, and made content that I truly loved. It was not a list made for others to see, but it was something I enjoyed for myself. It was list of people on this website whom I trusted implicitly.
It's like the "about me" (which will be the next feature to go). It's a feature each individual benefits from in their own way, rather than the collective hivemind.
I'm sad to see it go.

I think its good they got rid of friends list personally, as many people used that instead of subscribers. If you like someone's videos and/or if you are their friend, you should SUBSCRIBE to them, not FRIEND them. I know someone in particular that had about 200+ friends but only subscribed to a few channels, and almost all of them were channels that didnt need any more subscribers (more than most) but his friends with only a few dozen, hundred, or thousand subs, didnt subscribe to any of them.

The only way friends list are useful is because it's like being mutually subscribed to somebody unlike subscriptions which work one way. It's useful to little channels more.

What I don't get is that why do they give us the option to have Contacts, but then completely do nothing to show them or do anything with them. I did like the friends with to see people I didn't want to sub to, but want to see vids they like.
And I heard about the account purging as well. I heard it was going to happen on the 12th. If they do do it, I applaud them. If they do it and leave the accounts subbed to the top whores, I won't be surprised.

There's severe functionality lost. A lot of my friends I talk to through YouTube, and now scrolling through them is a major pain. Instead of seeing their icons, you see their names in a long list (which is a major thing to sort through when you have over 200 friends-I-mean-contacts).

The friends list is completely pointless. But I don't see why people hate the new layout - it's far superior to that horrible excuse for an interface they had before. The "full" Cosmic Panda was a bit of a nightmare, though. Slow, Confusing to navigate and ugly.

youtube is becoming ridiculous! whenever we comment on a video or Like a video, all of our subscribers can see it on their homepage! wtf that is a major invasion of privacy and i hope more people will notice this and tell youtube to remove it. i cant even disagree or hate on anything now cause i'm afraid my subscribers will frikin attack me and un-sub,(on my main account)

@jammy2600 you can disable all of that stuff by clicking the top right and select settings then sharing. I think they should be disabled by default and youtube ask if we want to enable it, not the other way around, but it can totally be disabled if you choose.
