This is so amazing, I almost have enough handstand that we can start on the walking handstand soon! This is what we aspire to!!! Kathy with Liz/Breeze/Cricket
please make a vid on how to do this trick. i so want to teach my dog this but im not sure how because my dog will just reach down for the treat i dont know how to get her to stand on her two front paws please reply :)
Hello Emily. This is amazing! Splash does such an amazing job doing this! Shyloh won't step onto the books with her back feet, she just steps over them and I can;t catch it in time if she does step on them because it so quick and she might not understand what I am clicking for because she only walks over it. Any ideas what to do? Thank you so much. I hope you answer!
that was amazeing hopefully i will be able to do this with my dogs someday we are only on sit and i am going to keep on training them until we can do this
I have a question that I hope you can help with! I have gotten my dog Abby to the point where she does the handstand unsupported. Unfortunately, she will only do it for about 2 seconds. It is almost more like kicking her legs up then holding the there. How do I get her to hold it for longer? How do I begin transitioning into walking?
Should I forget doing it unsupported for now and go back to using the wall and increasing hold time? What do you think?

after watching Heather and Jesse, i was thinking maybe only small dogs can do walking handstands. now after watching splash, and he has similar body type to my eskimo, I FEEL MY DOG WILL ONE DAY BE ABLE TO DO THIS TOO! :D Thanks for this video!!
this is amazing Kikopup!!! I have an american eskimo and i want to teach him how to do a handstand and hopefully one day get him to do walking handstands!
I just subscribed to ya and feel free to check out my videos!! What did you name the commands? and do you use hand signals to get splash to do the handstand? I am thinking of saying " handstand" then "walk" for the commands
this is my first time training a dog and your videos are very helpful! thanks! :)
Well. I believe it depends on the dog. With a overweight dog or a dog with heath issues I would not do this. But it is the same with humans. You can train your body to do handstands and other tricks, but for some people its not a good idea. Some Dogs actually naturally do handstands to mark, check out the video- Chester, the incredible peeing dog He can do a 1 min handstand! I stopped doing handstands with my chi just because she is fragile, but she will do them if the grass is wet!
What a wonderful trick! I would love to start working on this with my BC/Aussie. How long did it take Splash to gain the balance to do this? She is a stunningly beautiful dog, by the way.
Wonderful job with Splash! She is such a smart girl ;) She has such great balance and is so focused.
I'm teaching my Splash how to do the handstand as well, and she can do it pretty well against a wall. Do you have any advice on how to get it independant without a wall? Thank you =)
Great Job Splash & Emily!! You two are fantastic! =o) Aww... thanks for being inspired by Jesse ;o) Splash in the BEST walking hand standing dog I have ever seen since teaching Jess the hand stand in motion. She is super cute! Jess loves balloons too. The very end where Splash runs into the camera is hilarious. What cue do you use for the walking hand stand? 5* (I would give you more, but that is the highest =o) ~Heather and Jesse~
yes, to get her to balance well. I tried with out a treat at first, but she would sway around. Kiko my chi did fine learning without a treat under her nose though, so I guess it depends on the size and structure of the dog. (I don't do this trick with Kiko anymore since I found out she has deformed legs)
Yeah, that's the same problem I've been having..she can't balance herself right. I'll defiantly try it with a treat and hopefully that works better. :( Poor Kiko!
Splash is Fantabulous!! (it's a word), as are YOU! First lesson?? Unbelievable. I also love the ballon play, I believe she knocked the camera over at the end? Love that.
This is amazing Emily! Splash does the best BC walking handstand I have ever seen! What method did you use? Did you use back leg targeting or did you shape a handstand on a wall? 5* and a fav.
Well, Initially for the handstand, I was trying freeshaping but she didn't seem to be able to get her balance. Then Ron Watson gave me the idea (him being a gymnist) of putting the treat below her face so to teach her the right back posture. I was trying to be all cleaver freeshaping (so that I could not have to be hunched over during the trick) but all that was needed was just putting the treat under her nose like Yolle555. Then the walking part was an accident.
Then the walking part was an accident. The first clip in the park shows me asking for the handstand and she takes steps towards me, because she wants to be closer to me. I captured it, and then asked for it again at home for a more exciting reward. And blimey it worked!
I've watched so many of your vids and am amazed. Your patience is remarkable, and I would love to learn to have skads of patience, so I could train a dog. Perhaps when I retire....

you can encourage it through positive reinforcement, shaping his ability to do it more often.
give him treats everytime he gives an attempt and increase the closer he gets at mastering it
my dog does it when he pee's
