  • I really like this version..and I've heard A lot of dip shits renditions.

  • When I first first heard this, I thought for sure it was a Japanese gal singing it.

  • Takes me back...when this song was new, I loved it, everyone else I knew hated it. I still love it!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember wondering how the hell they got that drum sound, then I saw this video and was amazed to see it was done with spoons.

  • The resemblance to my ex is uncanny.

  • Called in a request to KOME radio in San Jose for this song from work one night about 1980... asked Dennis Erectus to play it- he said "i'll try man", then hung up on me and never played it... what an asshole he was back then, FUCK HIM...

  • listen to SLOW CHILDREN- SPRING IN FIALTA 1982

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck you Taco Bell for making look this song up.

  • Art-History lesson kids: 1979

Saddam Hussein takes power in Iraq.

Skylab came crashing down (Google it).

Michael Jackson releases the smash "Off the Wall".

Punk is practically dead, the New Wave is rising; & an eclectic, if petulant mix of electronica starts flirting with the mainstream (eg Gary Numan).

The Flying Lizards (named cause they'd never succeed) were artists looking to make a buck, & a stabbing comment on society using a soul song - performed with no soul.

    It's called irony.

  • @stephenaxlscott the song is about wanting money, so I'd say they performed it pretty well if you think they were only in it for money xD

  • @stephenaxlscott

I can go and make the worst song ever, to take a stab at the modern music industry, with a band named cleverly, and the song will still be terrible and a pain to listen to.

  • @MrCoolcal20 Maybe you had to be there (as most music is related to the era you're born into), but myself and a lot of other people who heard this song when it first came out love it and still listen to it. It still makes me laugh.

  • @stephenaxlscott you probably think your so smart

  • @joocrazy1 You're. And I am. Obviously. Trollin' in the derp.

  • @stephenaxlscot

ye remember the Jam.madness , ska etc etc new romantics and i was a scrawny 14 year old. Memories......

  • @stephenaxlscott They're song was in Lord of War, that's the only time I heard this song and of this musical group.

  • @MisterAAnderson The only reason I heard this song & group is because I was alive at the time. Pretty much the same reason you would have heard Stacys Mom by Fountains of Wayne. What's freakin' weird is there has actually been a "Flying Lizards Greatest Hits" CD. I'm not joking. Scary, really.

  • @stephenaxlscott Nothing like a bit of geriatric arrogance on an old music video

  • @Mihcaelkoppel When I was a boy, geriatric arrogance involved being slashed with broken bottles and doused in petrol, while the old farts kicked your burning, charred body and laughed about our hatred of Burl Ives. But you try telling people of today these things, and they won't believe you.

  • @stephenaxlscott , Punk died? Hardly.

  • TACO BELL NAAACHOOS.

  • Love this song, quirky and just a weird, infectious sound. Maybe it is nostalgia, heard this first in 1979 in a bar called Johnny O's in Newburgh, NY, a favorite hangout during college. Kind of speaks to the era of materialism then.

  • Freakin' Taco Bell. I actually thought this song was going to be good... #disappointed

  • they ruined this song too great balls of fire and now money...burn in hell you monotone no talent assholes

  • taco bell sucks, this song sucks. how fitting!!!

  • @TrapYap you suck

  • I hope they gave credit to the original artist.

  • who ever came here because of taco bell commercial disapoint me

  • like this if the Taco Bell commercial brought you here!

  • i came here cuz of taco bell commercial

  • She almost smiled at 2:00 lol.

  • Empire records

  • Hearing that BANG BANG BANG in the Taco Bell commercial every 5 minutes is fucking annoying

  • thumbs up if the Taco Bell commercial sent u here

  • @stephenaxlscott this is a cool guy

  • @stickyg151 And freaky. Don't forget freaky.

  • Comment removed

  • Who knew this song before taco bell and the wedding singer , or even empire records..? ............And didnt have to look up the "taco bell song" and the commercial just reminded me of this song but knew who sang it already...whew....lol

  • @adamjcantu Not living in America, and having been born 10 years before this song came out, I can raise my hand proudly and say "I have the 7" vinyl single of this, because I bought it when it was released!".

Love this version - and didn't even realise it was a cover of The Beatles song until many years later when the penny finally dropped (see what I did there?)!

  • @stephenaxlscott You ROCK!!!! and I didn't even know about The Beatles version, Thanks for the info....deftnly checking that out. :)

  • @stephenaxlscott Isn't it a cover of Barrett Strong?

  • @gorillazfan3 Wow. I'm 41 (42 in a couple of weeks). I'm a HUGE music nerd. I didn't know The Beatles version was a cover.

Thanks Gorillazfan3 ... it proves you learn something new every day!

And his original is sublime! So much passion, it makes you wonder what life for the poor guy was like back then.

  • @stephenaxlscott Oh, no problem! I used to think "Mr. Postman" was originally by The Beatles.

New things are learned everyday! It makes life fun that way!

    ^-^

  • fuck taco bell, this is from the wedding singer(:

  • oh look a REAL woman, with real boobs, not these fake plastic barbies like no adays, God i miss the music of the 70s and 80s,

  • Thanks to Taco Bell for using another classic that takes me back. I remember this from listening to WRAS and WREK when I was in high school. I think I recorded it right off the radio onto an 8-track tape that also had The B-52s, XTC, Magazine, and who knows what else.

  • @darkshadowblu unfortunately that damn commercial reminded me of this song, i was doin just fine not remembering it...now i havent been able to get it out of my head for days.

  • taco bell commercial anyone?

  • vevo ads suck

  • they are so damn silly. love the unpretentious 80s videos.

  • @cherubicnerd 1979 actually. LOL ; )

  • @jrmetmoi :^ )

  • I go to listen to this song. before I can listen to it, I must endure a 30 second advert for a song called 'swagger jacker' which is just overproduced nonsense with a chorus that has the melody of 'oh my darling clementine'

dickhead record companies killing off youtube as per

  • @LUNAPOLICE It's not that hard to just download AdBlock Plus.

  • @slightlyoutofreach01 how much is that?

  • @jrmetmoi Free, as a Firefox(as well as other browsers) download. I'm not sure if it's available on Internet Explorer, but if you're on anything else, just google "AdBlock Plus Download" and it should lead you to it.

  • @LUNAPOLICE unlucky ducky, I got straight to the song lol.

  • @LUNAPOLICE I agree

  • @LUNAPOLICE :

    Waaaaaa.

  • careerfair.info - for local jobs

  • @efrenmcmahon246 lmao.

  • Im not one to critique but This is a disgrace to music. These people should be ashamed for ruining a good song.

  • activision.avi

  • this is my anthem

  • THIS should be the GOP`s campaign song.

  • MON EY THATS WHAT I WANT!!! HAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA :')

  • ANDYROONEY 11 and Everyone. My guess is that they had to make Lucrative Careers elsewhere -if nothing else because of this. In the past 30 years since the day this song came out ... EVERYBODY ... talking out their butts, have told everyone that it's by YOKO ONO, due to their LAZINESS & DISHONESTY to avoid having to look it up first -before spewing out the False Info. Millions of people have WASTED THEIR TIME THIS PAST 30 yrs LOOKING FOR "MONEY" "by Yoko Ono" meaning -NO CHECK FOR THE LIZARDS

  • what can you say but "iconic" d in toronto can

  • sounds like my ex wife

  • Is this supposed to be funny?

  • @phototristan No and yes.. depends.

  • Exellent clip, musique de merde!!!

  • I so like this song. It's funny to me. Especially when she says "money can't buy everything it's true - but what don't get I can't use I WANT MONEY!!" Love it!!!

  • How many videos did The Flying Lizards make for this song? This one seems to get less exposure than the one other I've seen. Although, curiously, it appears to have been removed from youtube when I look for it now.

  • Love them

  • What a find, thanks for posting!

  • Sounds like Indira Gandhi singing.

  • i have never seen this video version of this song!

  • @cousiwa09 Me neither, but I know where it was filmed. Look out the window.

  • @160newcrossroad If I remember correctly it was filmed at the house of one of the band members [can't remember which one]

  • doesn't the beginning sound like oingo boingo's "no one lives forever" ?

  • @comedybenj sorry

  • @comedybenj That's the spirit, I guess you must have the t-shirt.

  • Song was the first hit on Berry Gordy's new Motown label in 1959. Predates the Fab Four by a couple of years.

  • Berry Gordy and Janie Bradford wrote this song, released a single in 1959

  • Fuck Vevo! This is supposed to be the "official" channel. Why can't they provide a listenable sound quality?

  • 10 points to whoever can tell me who wrote and performed the original.

  • Did they ever finish breakfast?

  • @ysbaddaden2003 @ShimmyDigg The Beatles performed, wrote as Lennon/McCartney. Do I win lol ?

  • @PowerQuebecois

Barrett Strong first performed this song in 1959, and my understanding was it was written by the founders of Motown Records.

  • @ysbaddaden2003 Then you win. Sad me is sad.

  • lol this song is....different lol

  • Reminds me of the muppets lol

  • the chick singing so damn boney... omg eat something.....

  • this is so fun to dance with!

  • Memories. Check out their song "TV," also from 1979. They were sort of deconstructing music. It was another aspect of the whole new wave thing that brought music back to its basic elements, they were just a little more extreme at it than others. Oh, and btw, they were not a one-hit wonder.

  • best christmas song ever

  • Huh--- I always pictured her as Asian.

  • Best cover tune ever recorded!

  • Good music for real. I remember when this came out.

  • 1 person is dirt poor

  • LOVE this song, it is HILARIOUS.

  • A reminder of the "cool" college days!

  • weird song...

  • 1979.................................

  • i just cant believe this song was made in 1979!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    FUCK

thats crazy shit that is hot now, the whole scratching and distortion...\

    F U C K

    so freaky

  • great love it

  • how can I get this as my ringtone?

  • Interesting how all of the people in this video ended up with lucrative careers in completely different types of employment. For example, the lead singer ended up becoming a licensed psychologist (possibly a psychiatrist). It's nice to have a one-hit wonder with a happy ending for all members and not the usual story that ends with "and he was just found dead early this morning in his bath-tub with what appears to be the remains of a once-great fortune...a silver dollar...the only thing he owned"

  • @andyrooney11 Damn right there. A pop song is not a life manefesto....

  • @andyrooney11 Who are you?
