in fact, galileo was forced 2 choose not 2 die like copernico did, burned. outside the judgment he said that denied that the earth was the very center of the universe, as church forced him 2 say. surely the sun is not the center or the universe, as he proposed, but his ideas were advanced for his time.
Galileo remained a devout Christian until his death. Most serious historians do not support the myth that has grown through the centuries about this affair. It was actually non theologians that started the campaign against him. The Pope initially encouraged Galileo to continue his work. These non theologians sought out help from a hostile Cardinal to influence the inquisitors. It wasn't his science but a promise not get involved in church politics which resulted in house arrest.
erm belamine off all peolpe was on galileos side till the end actually, and galileo had many enemies due to his nature.
he was never threatened with death penalty and especially death by punishment
i dunno if belamine ever looked at the telescope but he knew what galileo saw and he believed in those results because jesuits confirmed them, but i failed to see how moons spinning around the jupiter proved that the earth revolved around the sun?
i think personally that he made the choice he did because he was gonna be killed if he did not this video has nothing to do with balance its about looking at facts and totally deny them you jacob are wrong sorry kid
Yes, many they respected him, but some turned against Galileo. Particularly Cardinal Bellarmine did. Others were actually quite friendly to him.
My point was not about the Church per se, but about Cardinal Bellarmine who was the Chief Inquisitor at the time and was also declared Saint and a Doctor of the Church in the 20th Century. Doctor of the Church is a great honor bestowed only on a very few number of people throughout history.
i don't think it was a question of 'forcing' ideas on people. It wasn't about making a choice, as boncheck pointed out, if the church still wielded the same political power they did, would it be fair to say science wouod have made the leaps and bounds that it has?
"I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."
I wish more people could bring a message to the minds of fanatics like you are doing in this video..... very well said........... Jesus camp was like watching a taliban training video... spooky stuff
Not even close... Yes they are indoctrinating kids, but nothing like the Taliban. I didnt see anyone chanting 'Death to Islam' or learning how to fire AK-47's.
It was very similar to extreme fundamentalist Muslims, but without the guns...yes. The guns come in when these kids join the army or preach hate to their congregations.
This child has been force fed religious and political propaganda since birth. He will have a very hard road ahead of him if he wishes to learn the truth about the world.
Galileo choice was dictated BY the church. He still got his ideas out with a tricky way of tricking the church to publish his book. After that book Galileo was sentenced to house arrest for his life.

Thank you for not using Galileo as a beating stick against religion, and instead advocating for a healthy balance between science and religion.

Science and Religion are two completely different things. Belief doesn't equal knowledge.

It's too bad Galileo was suppressed by his religion.
