@xcrowdkillax depends on the 8 string and the 7 string to a large degree ;) If you took an RG 1527 and an RG 2228, the difference isn't as pronounced as if you compared the RG 1527 to a Hufschmid 8.
I think one of the major aspects - aside from the extra string and the added width - is the extra scale length. You have to re-adjust your 'blind-neck-navigation', if you know what I mean.
@Shink5 hey there :) I'd checked there site a while back, but just went there again - they've got some new models out which look wicked. Thanks for the tip ;) \m/
Unfortunately it'd be a bit on the expensive side to get one from over here in Europe with tax and everything going on top :(
@CliveJevons Ive played a few of their guitars , and they play great , the neck is very comfortable , I also tried their V and Im not a big fan of the V shape , I find them awkward to play , but even their V was actually comfortable to play . And im fortunate that I only live 30 minutes away from the factory .
Right - the first is a B power chord (root, fifth, octave) on the 7th fret of the E string, then that moves into an add9 - so 7-9-11th frets on the E, A and D strings. Then its a G 6 played 8th on the low B string, 7th on the A string and 9th on the D string and lastly E 6 11 played 5th on the low B, 4th on the A string and 7th on the D. With the latter two, I dampen the E string with the finger fretting the low B string.
@christslayer666 the only one I've seen was an 8 string 'Routa' guitar by Amfisound (dubbya, dubbya, dubbya with a dot and an amfisound and a dot and an fi). Just had a look at their site, but the pic isn't up there any more :(
@christslayer666 monsonguitars(dot)com that guy custom hand builds guitars i believe. i think he can do 8 strings too cuz i know he does some 7 strings.
nice improv dude but i wanna ask two things: 1)No offence but the tone of the rythm tracks is a bit muddy.Have you scooped the EQ?give it some mids and you won't regret it's like eating chocolate
2)Who much do you make a month?Dude you got a mountain of gear
1) Absolutely right. I'm still learning about recording, and this was one of my very early attempts ;) Got a bit better since then, but still got a LOT to learn :D Still - keeps me off the streets hehe
2) Enough ;) But the mountain of gear is more due to the length of time I've been buying (started in '89). Also, I spend almost all of my spending money on guitar gear, rather than cars or holidays etc.
Exactly what I've been doing LOL It just seems that you can ask 3 sound engineers the same question, and get four answers hahaha. But there is some communality in their answers, and I'm hoping to find some time to try that out.
I should also point out that I'm not afraid of mids at all - I generally have them quite up in my tone, but this vid was done when I still had the Lundgren M8s in the BM, which are incredibly scooped to start with (hence I now have Häussel in there ;)).
M8s are scooped?really?i could never see that coming...generally lundgrens are respected though i have never heard of this "complaint" before.
As for the engineers..maybe you are right don't ask them about tone ask them about practical issues on recording and try them to see whose advice works best for your playing..And do listen to them if they tell you not to play the guitar in a bathtub filled with water XD
Yeah - the Lundgrens which came in my Blackmachine were definitely VERY scooped. Doug had noticed the same thing when I talked to him about it. Its not a problem if you are going for that very specific sound, of course ;) But I'm more of a 'DiMarzio Evo' kind of guy. In fact, I'm a total BlackDroïd Kent Armstrong Custom convert hehehe - those are by and far the best pups I've played so far!
... but just let me add, that the Lundgren's are VERY well made pickups!! I didn't have a problem with the quality, its just that they weren't what I was looking for.
AND, the problem is DEFINITELY exaggerated by my inability to record a good guitar tone ;)
If Doug noticed it too, then it's either a hand wound malfunction as you said,or maybe the combination of woods that didn't work with the specific guitar..i can't think of anything else, since i suppose you've tried the guitar in other amps too. Also yes i agree about the Blackdroid pups haven't played one in person but in vids or sound clips they've never let me down
... we'd have to ask Doug if he's noticed that tonal characteristic in other M8s - AFAIK he's asked to install them on a fair few of the 8s he builds ... would be interesting to know :)
hey man... whats your opinion on the abm single string bridge pieces? are they comfortable to play on? the reason i ask is because im thinking of building a 7 string guitar, and wanted to use those bridge pieces... but i wanna make sure theyre comfortable and stable.
The UK is part of the EU, so there's no extra tax or customs :D If you ordered it from, say, the US, then there would be. You'd have to pay some percentage import tax, then the 19% MwSt on TOP of that!! (Which sucks, and which is way US imports are so expensive here :().
How much do Blackmachine's usually cost in American dollars? I obviously will have to wait a LONG time before I have the money for one but I would like to know so I have a goal to set, hahaha. And do you know when the Blackmachine site will be back up? Thanks for any help!
A BM 8 would probably run you around 4200 USD? That's without shipping and packaging, though :(
(AFAIK its normally 3500 Euro, but I've taken out 17% sales tax - but I don't know how much import and sales tax you'd have to pay in the US, so you'll have to add that in yourself).
Sorry - no idea when the web site will be back up - and checking daily myself LOL :)
Alright cool, so it'll take me a few months at my pay to get the amount needed. Do you know how much it would be for a 7 or 6? I'm not too sure if I want to go to an 8-string yet, I just got my first 7 a couple months ago.
Its a Blackmachine 8 - a guy called Doug hand-makes them in London. The web site is normally blackmachine with a co and a uk - but its currently down for re-design :(.
I'll do my best, but don't hold your breath just yet - I've got a lot of work on at the moment and am only barely getting to even *play* guitar, let alone do any sort of recording :(((
Once things quiten down a bit and I've gotten through all the other vids which are first in the 'queue', then I'll have a go for sure :)
Man - I remember the WAITING! lol ... I had to wait over a year for mine once I'd ordered it ... but I fear that the waiting time is even longer now! So I wish you strength and patience during this time - just know that it is well worth it in the end! :))) \m/
Yeah - we're just putting the finishing touches on an EP ... untitled as yet, but we're really happy with how its sounding ;) Should be available in the next month if all goes well ...
I'm hoping to also post a little 'making of' type of vid and maybe an attempt at a music vid to one of the songs here :)

In terms of feeling, how much different is an 8 string from a 7 string? Besides the obvious width of the neck.

thicker wider neck, adjustment to ears as far as notes when chords are contructed and the scale is just different to look at(more width and depth)
