wow thank you so much for uploading these - i looved them sooooo much when i was a child and when ever i mention them to my friends of the same age - they have no idea what i'm talking about!
really many thanks - i wish i could get them on DVD.
This was hilarious. Thanks for posting, ShawnActor. :) Also, if you noticed, broadway actress Jo Anne Worley did the voice of the hapless Sergeant Bertha Blast.
I usually hate spinoffs such as 'caveman popeye' or 'son of popeye', but 'private olive' is surprisingly good! I so love to watch this segment back in 80's. And Sgt. Blast is by far one of the best non-canon characters from Popeye's universe.
I'm glad you're enjoying them again. I wasn't sure if these would ever make it to DVD or not, so I put them here on YouTube from my recorded videotape collection of these.
I had never seen these cartoons before, but I had read about them in a book. I am very thankful to be aquainted with them! Thank you very much for the upload!
You're welcome. I'm glad you are enjoying them. I have 16 episodes in all of these Private Olive Oyl shorts posted, so this isn't the only one, just so you know.
I used to watch this aaaages ago and back then I thought Goon was kinda weird, now I know she's/it's total fucking lunacy. What is it all about?? Love the voice though; I'd quote it if I could but come on...
actually I stand corrected. I thought it was mae questal who did Olive's voice too, but she was rejected in favor of another voice actress named Marilyn Schreffler, who did Olive Oyl's voice in these cartoons.
These cartoons are hilarious! I can't remember the last time a cartoon made me laugh out loud!!!

I'm glad you enjoyed them. I would have commented to your posts sooner, but I was without internet service for a few months, until today.
I laughed more at these cartoons than I did the Popeye ones from this era as well.

This cartoon is an abomination and a bane on anything great. 30s Popeye all the way!

I always thought goons hated humans. Since when did they open a resort?

What is Alice Goon? I'd really love to know.

She's a goon: basically a sort of bizarre giant hailing from the fictional "Goon Island".

I love Private Olive Oyl! This was the best segment that ever aired on the Popeye & Friend show!
bigg3469 3 years ago
Arent there regulations against harming your top sergeant, even inadvertantly?
You'd think Olive couldnt pass the physical. And Alice isn't even a Terran, much less a United States citizen.

This used to be part of the "Popeye and friends" hour on a popular tv station back in the late 80s.

who did her voice?
im confused
mae questal?
Cresantstar 3 years ago
yes, she did Olive's voice, and she also did Alice, the Goon's.

yes i didnt know that one year ago but after looking at all mae questels bio i found out
Cresantstar 2 years ago
However, in the spinoff, "Popeye and Son", Schreffler continued the voice until her death, and, then, Questel regained the role.
