Ron Paul is very correct in stating that America needs to wind down its empire and slash its buget. However, his faith in free markets must surely have been tested lately!

Ron Paul is in favor of freedom in the sense of everyone having the same access to the market, which in his terms means essentially no government intervention at the federal level. This is unequal in the sense that it favors those who already have money (i.e., they are more likely to succeed in this free market system). His basic viewpoint is that a free market will somehow solve all the problems. Bottom line: It won't.

A free market won't solve all of the problems. Nothing will solve ALL of the problems and give some magical equality to everyone. What it WILL do is give more OPPORTUNITY to succeed.

Let me try to explain this, so pay attention. Ron Paul is in favor of freedom in the sense of everyone having the same access to the market, which in his terms means essentially no government intervention at the federal level. This is unequal in the sense that it favors those who already have money (i.e., they are more likely to succeed in this free market system). His basic viewpoint is that a free market will somehow solve all the problems. Bottom line: It won't.
