In many cases as Ryan Leslie claims the subscibers come from people's already existing fan base like his 60k myspace friends. Imagine if David Letterman told people on his show night after night for a week to signup and subscribe to the CBS channel and told them they would see exclusive content there. In a week CBS would be in the top ten most subscribed list.
