Most of the things you said were wrong ! I have the HTC HD2 and the lighting on the camera is nothing like that. And also the battery life, the battery life lasts me for about 2 days to 2 and a half days.
I subscribed to your channel man, Great review. I was on the fence with this device but thanks to your presentation, I am now going to take the chance on the HTC HD2. Thank you .
It's a really nice phone and I had it, but I had to get rid of it because the software had a lot of problems. I will never get a Windows phone again. I had to switched to a mytouch slide 3g and it works way better than the HTC HD2. On top of that, the Windows app market sells almost every app. Is hard to find free apps on the Windows market.
You have to wait for the player to recognize all the tracks, u have to wait some time, but after that, all is fine. U can't just open a 2000 playlist and expect it to recognize and organize them instanlatiously, even a PC would need some time. As for the task maneeger, just create a favorite on ur hame screen, a shortcut to it, and ur set.
Wow, u r wrong man, the headphone r amazing, they compare to my 70$ SHE9850, really wrong, just put the headphone sleeves on, and it will change a lot. I have this phone, and the battery life is much better than the one on the iphone or n97, if u use task maneger to close programs when u have to. U have to know how to use such a beast. You have to like to take care of ur phone to get this, it demands attention, but the Sence UI is worth it.
@floflo110 Buy An HTC HD2 !! you know Galaxy S is not so good it's realy annoying HTC HD2 is perfect Everything is good on that phone Buy a HTC HD2 :D
I still like WinMo, guess I'm kind of old school. I don't need a media centric phone like many of the new "smart phones" are. WinMo was built for business and it meets those needs very well. Plus I like modifying my phone and customizing it, also WinMo seems to get things before other smartphones do, such as flash, I realize that Android now supports flash but WinMo has had flash capable browser for a few years now. Have any of the updates solved the music problem with sense?
me along with everyone i else i know with this phone complains its a great phone but it freezes ALOT texting takes minutes to load at times and the phone randomly turns off and takes removal of the battery for it to turn back on...go for the Samsung Vibrant or mytouch 3g but great video bro.
I have a question on the battery, i don't use web all that much if at all it's just a quick 2 second search mainly I just text and make a few brief calls would i get a full day use from the battery then?
i noticed the lag in the music player too, and i only have 7-8 gb of songs ... it depends on what you use to download the music .... ive noticed the windows media player works best and has the least amout of lag
hey trent, wats your definition of a heavy power user? i am just curious as i currently use a sony mobile and am looking for a new platform. pls reply thanks
hey trent, wats your definition of a heavy power user? i am just curious as i currently use a sony mobile and am looking for a new platform. pls reply thanks
Nice review that music player thing is pretty bad have you tried putting the same amount of data in a video format (movies) and see if it has the same problem?
I have seen others with the same type issues and som custom roms have fixed it but I wonder if its a proplem with the sense ui player or the device itself I tend to think the UI. I think you were expecting a bit much from the solo speaker. The Tp2 had a much better speaker arrangement because it was focused on being a business speaker ph
im thinking to buy this or nokia n97 mini , i was impresed with same features but battery worries me..im power user , one more thing that htc hd2 has is better internet browser..HELP ME...which one to chose ?they are both awesome
I enjoy the way you review phones. Instead of just having the camera pointed at it, you go into detail about the different functions, with pop up video windows. Which I think is a nice touch. Most reviews on here aren't as in depth as yours are. You just got a new subscriber.
Well the Tg01 did have the 4.3 inch screen but it was resistive touch and its UI can go suck a dick. HD2 is the first 4.3 inch capacitive and the Sense UI is wonderful...well mostly.
you might be right I tried several thing that didn't work. I even took it back to the dealer who should know everything about the phone considering they had been using them weeks before they sold them. THEY WERE NO HELP AT ALL. you should make a vid and send it to the dealers. I don't even care at this point got a new android. i can do EVERYTHING i want now. HD2 is a piece of shit.
This Phone is garbage. what was HTC thinking? WEB OS and Android are better than this HTC HD2 is utter crap. Software running is windows mobile 6.5 which is Trash. Ha and forget about getting any great apps for free on windows mobile lol. Microsoft giving out free apps? that's like microsoft asking you to give you some ice with you're water you already paid for. Sad to see HTC using Windows mobile 6.5. Well the EVO 4G which is from htc also which is coming to sprint is going to run Android.
I like the conversational style of this review. You're like talking to a friend about a phone. I can't wait to hear what you have to say about the Samsung Galaxy or the Evo. I have an HD2 right now but it's not going to be around at the end of next week. I'm taking it back because getting it to do what I want is more trouble than I'm willing to put up with. I had a Nexus that didn't have the specs but outside of rebooting and freezing was a much more pleasant device.
BEWARE OF THIS PHONE! all it has is a good picture. 3 friends bought it last week i am the only one who still has it ,UNTIL THIS WEEKEND. i thought i was upgrading from the G1. BAD BAD MOVE. it doesn't even let you use music on your SD card as a ringtone, something that simple can't be done. and the apps FORGETABOUTIT ! TRASH!
@djlarrylarr I don't know what you are talking about; not only that mines show the music, it downloads the the album covers through Gracenote. Also you have to move the ringtones from the SD card to the device itself. You gotta learn to use you phone instead having a phone use you.
ok guys remember thats not the tmobile version of the htc hd2 that we will be getting out here in the usa so im sure its gonna be better then all the bads he said about it because i went into a tmobile store yesterday and got to play with one and the sound and everything to me seems amazing! i just wish we got the pouch the overseas htc hd2 people got with theres instead we get a shitty silicone sleeve that doesnt protect the front of the screen or really anything if it was dropped =[
Regarding the memory card...did you happen to try smaller cards? Or transferring files via USB sync straight to phone rather than removing the card and reinserting it? I'll bet that upon removal, the phone has to re-catalog the file library and that may goof it up, or possibly it isn't hot-swappable. Or this behavior could explain the US version getting a RAM bump.
Nice review ;) i really liked that you are so honest about the battery life time, sound quality and stuff like that! Hope for some more reviews from you ;)
well the battery on the n900 with heavy use only lasts 6 hrs. For medium use it lasts about 10 hrs so if the htc hd2 lasts a day with heavy use it kicks nokia's butt. I was gonna get the n900 but have used this phone and its the bomb. nuff said lol!
@TechoPL get this mate, the iphone 3gs are nothing compared to this bad boy, i got 1 of these yesterday, there is so many things on it, and the camera is very good quality, it is also fast and reliable.
If the battery life is a deal breaker for you, there is a bigger battery available for this phone...but it would be nice if the US version came with the task manager more accessible...should help with battery life too.
they increased the storage and memory for the US, maybe the battery will also be different...probably not though :(
I'm currently with sprint and have the tp2, but I just found out that the hd2 is coming to t mobile. Can someone please tell me about the t mobile service and 3g coverage. I'm going to switch to t mobile if I get some positive feedback.
like i said on your other video i think you must have a bad phone or memory card as i have a 16gb card and has over 6 gbs of music on and everything is fine
I see you have a mac there, do you use your mac to drag music onto the SD card? I have a mac myself and i'm getting this phone in the mail soon. If you are, what programs do you use?
Yes, I do use the Mac to drag music onto the SD card. I use no programs to do this, for I simply insert the card reader to the Mac. The SD card then appears as a removable drive on the desktop.
Excellent video, however most other htc hd2 vids in YouTube regards it's battery to be top notch, are you sure you did not get one with a faulty battery?
Wow what a racist thing to say. He doesn't sound "white", he sounds educated. There's a difference. Most educated people sound like this. Including myself, and I'm Hispanic. Guess I should walk around saying homie and vato all the time? Sheesh. Anyway Trent, good review. Keep up the good work.
Does it make phone calls? You briefly mentioned Voicemail quality, but that was it. I don't have a Facebook or Tweeter account, and I do watch movies on my huge plasma TV. Is there anything left for me to take from this... phone? Is it a phone, right?
very nice review. part 1 and 2. big ups but seriously who put 2000 songs on a micro sd card. obviously the phone will freeze. i am thinking to get the phone anyway. no internet nor music usage. just phone.
in the begining you said that when you used only WM without HTC sense that it was "clunky". what do you mean by clunky? was it computer laggy/slow, or was it just ugly and disorganized? i dont see how any OS can be laggy on such a powerful device
and as far as the battery goes, dont they usually sell upgradeable batteries for such devices that are not physically bigger but more powerful and last longer??
That was the VERY BEST review i've seen on a smartphone . That was very indepth . I'm looking forward to seeing more of your reviews . GREAT JOB Sir .
but I can not understand wy you put more than 2000 songs on the phone while the htc hd 2 days baterij not stand a full day, if you listen to a lot off music you better buy an mp3 player..shit over 2000 songs..all thing you where clever,...pease
I have that many songs on a microSD card simply because I can have them, and it is mainly for a diverse selection of music to be available to me if I do decide to use my phone for music. I primarily use an iPod Touch and do not use my phones as daily music players. We all have many ways in which we use our devices, and playing music happens to be one feature I simply tested on the HD2.
And by the way, you can buy extended batteries. It will probably make the phone a lot wider, but its worth it if youre a power user.
I can wait for this to come to the U.S! Ive been watching videos on this phone for months, and this is the realest and most detailed review yet. EVERYONE TAKE NOTES ON HOW TO REVIEW A PHONE, BECAUSE YOU OTHER REVIEWERS SUCK!
You have the best quality device review videos on all of the internet IMHO. Extremely thorough and well edited. I happen to LOVE the camera angle you chose to narrate this review with, with your new desk setup in the back - I think it is very fitting. I also think the picture in picture effect you used (for example, to show the video quality clip of the HD2) was a fantastic choice. I'm wondering if this was a result of your studies into final cut pro? My best compliments!
1) is there gonna be a better battery available on sale for the hd2?
2) data connection- is it possible to turn off data connection on the hd2- so it only uses wifi- and does the hd2 automatically scans for wifi networks and connects to them- will it keep updating things like weather over wifi, even if the data is off
3) if both the data and wifi are on- which connection will the hd2 pick?
4) which good gps software can you recommend- one that doesn't need internet connection to operate
1. I don't know. 2. I never looked into turning off my data connection. 3.WiFi seemed to be the first choice when available. 4. Google Maps for me, but I do believe it needs internet.
I just looked into the situation and learned my SanDisk HC cards are class 2, which is the slowest and cheapest. Going into a class 6 may be the best bet, if there are any microSD cards available in that capacity.
Nonetheless, my Nokia devices still have no trouble accessing the music content on these cards, so I am still thinking this involves the phone hardware as well.
The speaker is a real pain indeed. I don't care about music (music over a phone-speaker is always crap, so the only thing you can do is annoy people around you) and voice over speaker is ok-ish. But when using navigationsoftware, it just does not suffice.
A real pain is the fact that initially this device was meant to run Android instead of WinMo. Unfortunately, MS probably made HTC an offer they couldn't refuse to let their flagship run on WinMo. Maybe some of tis device's weaknesses wouldn't be there (or at least in a lesser extent) with the OS it was designed for.
thanks trent love ya reviews...i'm a web browser hows browsing on the hd2 an how is it on the new skyfire 1.5 & thanks for the info on the battery i keep my car charger wit me at all times.
Skytfire works as good as it works on other devices. However, it's just not for this phone. Sf doesn't support stuff like landscape-mode and multitouch. Also, stuff like video in fullscreen doesn't work, and the videoquality is too low for a big screen like the HD2's.
I love Skyfire on my E71, but for the HD2 we'll just have to wait for a proper Sf-version.
get the extended battery :)

Nice! Thank you for the quick answer. And good review too!

Very good detailed review...
you should of been born white, because you dont sound like a typical black man on youtube, thanks for your video

Is there anything left for me to take from this... phone? Is it a phone, right?
talesdian 2 years ago
very nice review. part 1 and 2. big ups but seriously who put 2000 songs on a micro sd card. obviously the phone will freeze. i am thinking to get the phone anyway. no internet nor music usage. just phone.

romanii87 2 years ago
@romanii87 i got both..the n900 does 24hrs with heavy usage..the hd2 about 20(the big screen needs a lot power)

@absolon3
in the begining you said that when you used only WM without HTC sense that it was "clunky". what do you mean by clunky? was it computer laggy/slow, or was it just ugly and disorganized? i dont see how any OS can be laggy on such a powerful device
and as far as the battery goes, dont they usually sell upgradeable batteries for such devices that are not physically bigger but more powerful and last longer??
fupasack2 2 years ago
thanks for make a review of the htc hd2 without mention the iphone.
robertcepeda 2 years ago 4
Regarding the music file Freeze, don't put more than 50 files under one directory... sort them under artist names and albums.
Windows media player can do this for you automatically if you use it to sync.
That should fix the lag with large music selections.

First my respect to you for this video
but I can not understand wy you put more than 2000 songs on the phone while the htc hd 2 days baterij not stand a full day, if you listen to a lot off music you better buy an mp3 player..shit over 2000 songs..all thing you where clever,...pease
sitaniace 2 years ago
I have that many songs on a microSD card simply because I can have them, and it is mainly for a diverse selection of music to be available to me if I do decide to use my phone for music. I primarily use an iPod Touch and do not use my phones as daily music players. We all have many ways in which we use our devices, and playing music happens to be one feature I simply tested on the HD2.

Best review I have seen on the HD2! Keep up the good work.

mclaren1234567 2 years ago
And by the way, you can buy extended batteries. It will probably make the phone a lot wider, but its worth it if youre a power user.
I can wait for this to come to the U.S! Ive been watching videos on this phone for months, and this is the realest and most detailed review yet. EVERYONE TAKE NOTES ON HOW TO REVIEW A PHONE, BECAUSE YOU OTHER REVIEWERS SUCK!

Hey Trent.

Thanks so much! Actually, I am still using iMovie '09 with advanced features.

how is the battery time compare to iphone 3gs ?
joni69h 2 years ago
I haven't used the 3GS in recently.
absolon3 2 years ago
1) is there gonna be a better battery available on sale for the hd2?
2) data connection- is it possible to turn off data connection on the hd2- so it only uses wifi- and does the hd2 automatically scans for wifi networks and connects to them- will it keep updating things like weather over wifi, even if the data is off
3) if both the data and wifi are on- which connection will the hd2 pick?
4) which good gps software can you recommend- one that doesn't need internet connection to operate
mr2yess 2 years ago
1. I don't know. 2. I never looked into turning off my data connection. 3.WiFi seemed to be the first choice when available. 4. Google Maps for me, but I do believe it needs internet.

What's with the hydrogen symbol?

Those are desktops inspired by Dr. Manhattan from The Watchmen.
absolon3 2 years ago
This or the N900
whats your choice?
thanx
Trabzonlu84 2 years ago
N900. But with the N900 there are sacrifices that have to be made in regards to how I used my phone. So far, I think it has been worth the risk.
absolon3 2 years ago
I figured, which is the only reason I know it's a hydrogen symbol.

No, not all of them.

Did you used Highspeed Micro SD Cards?
chswat89 2 years ago
I just looked into the situation and learned my SanDisk HC cards are class 2, which is the slowest and cheapest. Going into a class 6 may be the best bet, if there are any microSD cards available in that capacity.
Nonetheless, my Nokia devices still have no trouble accessing the music content on these cards, so I am still thinking this involves the phone hardware as well.
Thanks for the great question!

i love this phone man.. what is the box price on this. Ebay has them shot up to 700+ is it avail. in the US yet?

thanks trent...give a simiar review on the n900 i'm purchasing the n900 for my girlfriend & ill die if her phone is better than my hd2....lol!
Saints504boy 2 years ago
The speaker is a real pain indeed. I don't care about music (music over a phone-speaker is always crap, so the only thing you can do is annoy people around you) and voice over speaker is ok-ish. But when using navigationsoftware, it just does not suffice.
kenjuma 2 years ago
A real pain is the fact that initially this device was meant to run Android instead of WinMo. Unfortunately, MS probably made HTC an offer they couldn't refuse to let their flagship run on WinMo. Maybe some of tis device's weaknesses wouldn't be there (or at least in a lesser extent) with the OS it was designed for.

thanks trent love ya reviews...i'm a web browser hows browsing on the hd2 an how is it on the new skyfire 1.5 & thanks for the info on the battery i keep my car charger wit me at all times.
Saints504boy 2 years ago
I have never been a fan of Skyfire and only used the Opera and Internet Explorer browsers with the phone.
absolon3 2 years ago
Skytfire works as good as it works on other devices. However, it's just not for this phone. Sf doesn't support stuff like landscape-mode and multitouch. Also, stuff like video in fullscreen doesn't work, and the videoquality is too low for a big screen like the HD2's.
I love Skyfire on my E71, but for the HD2 we'll just have to wait for a proper Sf-version.
