I understand this is out on DVD-I need to get it along with my other 60's films. "The Wrong Box" is hands down one of the three best comedies of the 1960's-the other two are "Bedazzled" (which just happen to have "Box" co-stars Peter Cook and Dudley Moore) and "The President's Analyst." Very shocked as to why Nanette Newman didn't get an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. This movie is a reason why 1966 was the defining year for film in the 60's ("Alfie", "Blow Up", "Seconds", etc.).
@HogwartsCastle All at one school - their parents each put up a share of the money. It's a Tontine ("named after Lorenzo Tonti, a Neapolitan banker", as Ralph Richardson's charactger points out several times :o))
I remember screening this gem of a film as a projectionist at the Embassy Cinema in Tenterden Kent on it's release in 1966. It was a smash hit in the UK. Lovely music from John Barry.
Thanks for this, i haven't seen it in nearly 30 years, and finally it is available on disc in the UK- I ordered my copy today. Everything about this movie was perfect: the cast, the script, John Barry's charming score- just everything!
you are wonderful - to have posted this film. I have never seen it and am very much looking forward to do so.

Stange as it may seem, you'll see echoes of both this and the book it was based on in the TV serial "Lost". At least I did.

Thanks so much! I saw this film in 1968, it is the funniest film I ever saw - I was laughing for weeks each time a scene came to my mind. :)
