  • Absolutely! Well done! I endured a childhood of literalism. Now I am an atheist and I am free! It just amazes me how so many intelligent (and completely dumb) people can be drastically deluded! I lived with it and recognised it at the age of 10 for christs sake! - pardon the pun... one thing though, the bible is not an accurate history of anything. Any ancient historian will tell you that (unless brainwashed) Most of the old testament is proven as crazy, appalling, ancient hebrew war propaganda.

  • I am not the lecturer, btw.

Congratulations! I mean that sincerely -- escape from indoctrinations is amazingly difficult even for many intelligent people. I actually suspect that literalism is more brittle.

You are quite right about the OT -- and the NT, with its blood-sacrifice and apocalyptic revisionism is not a great deal better.

  • I did not post this lecture in order to give ignorance a soapbox. Literalists deny biblical scholarship because it does not fit their cherished delusions. The history of Christianity is fascinating; much more interesting than endless Bible quotes. Knowledge of the actual history of derivative-Jewish-theology does not preclude belief. It does, however, preclude believing the myth that the Bible is the Inspired Word of God. Go away and educate yourself!
