@ginnyharrison1103 I was the same age and played in junior high school bank and orchestra, the trumpet. We played it in the orchestra. It sounded good in spite of the fact that we were just learning our instruments. I was first chair at Hamilton Junior High School in Houston, Texas. What a time.
@glorybra Actually I have. I have no problem accepting that some men are stunningly handsome. In fact, I am one such guy, Ha! Take that, Butt wipe. No, seriously, i am not an angry sort and I wish you the best. Honestly.
I'm a big fan of the music of this era, but I'm not sure what to say this song is for genre, it's got some Folk in it, some Rock, some R&B and some Country & Western... it's neat!
Szeretem a számaikat, de amit a tv-műsorokban műveltek, hát az kritikán aluli. A hatvanas években bármelyik tanyasi kultúrprogram különb volt, mint amit ezek összehoztak, amikor rámozdultak egy kamerára.
Great song!!! And I just found out that they were brother and sister. It almost just seems to me that singing with that kind of emotion belongs only to lovers!!!-----Danny Sordello
hi all...i heard on an oldies station...that when this was recorded that april knew the words to the song...but when her brother arrived for the recording...she had to "prompt " him with the words.....the producer thought it was a cool affect....although nino didn't like the idea.....the producer convinced him to leave the repitition in and ...the rest as they say is history...a big hit...!!! true story
This was my High School Orchestra teacher's undoing. He gave us this song to play, so we played it in this style. He quickly stopped us and explained to us, that, that was not the way it was written. If you hear the original, written in the 1930's you see that the beat is quite different. I tend to like this version better.
In the 3nd verse April is prompting her brother, because up to then, he couldn't remember the lyrics & studio time was precious. Her prompts are SO sexy, enabling them to be left in the recording. Afterwards, the producer, the legendary Ahmet Ertegun, said it was the worst recording he'd ever done, & made it the B side of the 45, instead of the A side as was originally intended. April's brother Nino protested, saying it would be a #1 hit. He was right!
Growing up in that era, I can tell you from personal experience that it was truly a magical, mystical, intriguing period of time in our country's history. And the music that came out of that time period was truly extraordinary. We shall never again experience the magic that was the 1960s.
This is among my most favorites!
I enjoy the way it just rolls along flowing constantly as does a river.
Lovely pair of voices.

The arrangement, the production, the whole song, to me, sounds as if it could have been released as late as 1970.
