  • LOL Gibson is far from being the best. Gretch and Fender is better, but electric guitars all sound the same anyways. Your sound is pick ups not the wood. In acoustics Martin is and always will be the kings of guitars. Gibson banjos are one of the cheapest made. They use plywood donuts. Only mandolin Gibson makes. That is the greatest is the Loar. Weber is the best on the market today in mandolins. LOL

  • What song is playing at the beginning of the video? Thanks!!

  • Shame I've played way too many shit Gibson guitars. Back when this was recorded, Gibson WAS an awesome company. Now they're over-priced.

  • compared to fender process they make a guitar in half a time, but still they happen to charge three times more for a plank of wood that was bashed on by 180 people? what a shame.

I personally like gibson guitars, but their sale strategy is just cruel

  • Is that Cliff Clavin???

  • @joenaccomusic YES !! its Cliffy from Cheers ! love that show

  • how lucky are those who can afford a smart gibson electric guitar!!!..:'(

  • @MrAfrovenator11 Do you know how munch one cost? :)

  • where can i apply?

  • Fuck this hillbilly shit.

  • I like Gibson's but for the past 10 or so years they've been having serious QC problems, mainly with fit and finish. This is inexcusable in every sense of the word on ANY guitar that costs over $1000!!!!!! For Gibson's sake, they had better clean house in their QC dept.!

Currently I'm saving up to get a Les Paul Custom which is going to cost me around 4 grand and believe me...that damn thing had better shine in fit, form and fashion like a newly minted penny, otherwise I'm getting a PRS!!

  • @ryanspeed I totally agree with your comments on Gibson quality control (or lack thereof). Most new Les Pauls are now overpriced nostalgia.

Don't buy a new one off the shelf. Look around for a nice used one. A budget of 4K allows you a wide choice of Customs from the early seventies onward.

  • i have a les paul copy that i spent 0 dollars for, and 200 on repairs and now its bad fuckin ass

  • I don't like videos showing people building guitars faster than big macs... I like to think they are made slow and carefully...

  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents raided guitar factories and corporate headquarters in Nashville and Memphis, they claim the wood on the guitars was illegal,Gibson has the approval from India that its not illegal, in the mean time 1200 folks are put out of work..anyone have updates??

  • true, the new ones are overpriced, and the quality isn't nearly what it should be. i've heard that gibson is getting a new quality control guy, which would be a huge step forward for them. i just got an original 84 explorer, and it's pretty damn nice. if you can find an older one for a good price, go for it.

  • Fail at 2:56 , Fender Amp xd

  • @pacmansband there are no gibson amps you nobb.

  • @JustusGregorius I Know but, Epiphone built some ;)

  • @JustusGregorius no gibson amps? lol ok buddy

  • @taterfamine well I never saw any at my local guitar shops and larger retailers.

  • @JustusGregorius it's cool. i don't think they're that super common. i've seen some for sale on craigslist and ebay though

  • @JustusGregorius Look up the ga79rvt. :)

  • Is that John Ratzenberger (sp?) narrating?

  • i own a gibson sg standard and i LOVE it.

  • It's where the best of the best come to play... With themselves.

  • i like jacksons better

  • HEAVEEEEEEEN

  • @joaogodooy when its ibanez then i agree with you

  • they are produced for 350 dollars

now they sell them for 3000 dollars

    many people cant afford this

    they should cost 1000 dollars

  • @tnikoli40 if that.

  • Comment removed

  • so the bottom line, you get what you pay for.

  • I have a couple Gibsons, a Les Paul and a Songwriter Deluxe Standard, expensive yes but worth every penny. I also have a Martin, again worth the expense. I have Epiphones too and compared to Gibsons they fall way short. I had a Fender Strat once and got rid of it, it just could compare to the Les Paul in MY opinion. We all have the guitars we like and ones we dream of having, that doesn't mean that all others are junk, they are all good once you get into the high end stuff.

  • pricewise to quality wise , epi beats gibson.......thumbs up if you agree and also thubs up if you noticed that piggybank is the narrator

  • @metallisabbath do u have a gibson?

  • @elitemx101 no sorry. id like one. but there are shitty epis out there lol

  • pricewise to quality wise , epi beats gibson.......thumbs up if you agree

  • how come people in tenesse are so good iin music? :\ *jealous

  • OVER PRICED

  • Too bad the LPs have major problems with their headstocks.... thats a shame

  • @BenjaminLOfficial because they know esp made a better product that was priced fairly.

  • @BenjaminLOfficial Nah, I actually like the pointed edges on the ESPs. Makes 'em look more like a metal guitar. Especially with the Jackson style headstock.

  • The only thing i hate about Gibsons are that they are expensive.

  • Funny how this is one big propaganda movie while other guitar brands just show how they make the guitars in their factory tour videos.

  • @mightymartino this video is not propaganda, because it wasn't made by gibson. it was featured on a show called "made in American", which surveyed famous American manufacturers all within the same aesthetic as this video. Please don't make dickish comments without considering the context here. gibson are among the best builders of guitars.

  • @NotNamedJones I didn;t know that, but i guess that also explains my remark then. And best builders of guitars is very debatable, let's just say among the best builders of mass production guitars.

  • @mightymartino It depends on how you qualify a good guitar. Personally, the only difference I can usually tell in Gibson and even higher end, more exclusive guitars is cosmetic. if you consider the quality gibson produces AS a mass production company, and the fact that they excel at both electrics and acoustics, the combination of accessibility, relative affordability, high quality and cosmetic beauty do make them the very best in the world overall.

  • I just saw a factory making Gibson Copies in China and I laughed My A*& off , Nothing compares to a real American Gibson! People be careful what you buy!

  • @Masterfighterx and @Phallystorm Good they should have sued them Gibson is the first person to come out with the Les Paul design God rest his soul. I mean its just like taking a car and duplicating it and calling it yours you cant do that. Im glaad they got sued especially esp they suck ass. PRS is a really good brand but they can come out with there own design.

  • @Cody1970Davis Well see it this way, ESP is better quality on low prices LTDs and standard ESP. So i think it sucks, also there are many copying the V and Explorer still and they're not getting sued? Why? Because they don´t sell better than Gibson as ESP did/does

  • it wasnt les paul who made the first electric guitar, it was leo fender with the telecaster

  • @acdcruleurmom Others say it was Bigsby.

  • @acdcruleurmom Well who made the Frypan electric guitar? And then the Plank? The Plank was Les Pual, Leo made the first MASS PRODUCTION electric guitar.

  • @brandonfishas not from what i heard,

  • @acdcruleurmom Ah well. For all we know Izaac Newton made one and never told anyone about it. :D

  • @brandonfishas i know right, tbh it dont acc mater cos both companies make guitars that turn us guys on ;)

  • I count myself lucky that I've got the Japan fake Strat called the Harmony H-80-T. So crazy good a ply hard-body and maple neck that Fender wouldn't sue for fear that everyone would get curious and check those Harmony axes out.

  • @xxxMrSuspendedxxx I know for sure my mate has an old law-suit Tokai Strat made in Japan. So I think, eing A. a lawsuit model and being something like 20 years old is worth the same amount he bought it for.

  • @brandonfishas Mine has the truss nut under the pick guard behind the neck. Never had to touch it.

It's crazy. People are telling me that early Harmony H-80s had the truss nut that way, but yet had a "Splinter" neck. Well mine is solid maple, so maybe it was a replacement neck.

As far as "Outlaw" Strats, that legal matter was only over the blatant copy of the ugly Strat headstock jutting out circle.

My dandy Harmony H-80 has a classy headstock in no way as stupid as the Strat circle fart.

  • Basically we put a 2x4 board nailed and paper glued to a uhhh... circle wood thing then put some barb wire from a security fence. then we finish it off with a spray can we use to tag stuff with... oh then uhh, we carve a small small circular circle hole in the middle of the circle

  • is that Cliff Claven narrating?

  • is that Cliff Claven narrating?

  • Ehh, Gibsons are nice, but give me a Rickenbacker anyday

  • out of all the legendary musicians that play gibsons, why would they compare them to bon jovi and guns n roses? guns n roses maybe, but bon jovi?

  • the narrator sounds like Ham from Toy Story :)

  • Some people just can't understand that these instruments are art, I've been playing the same Gibson leas Paul standard limited edition and every time I look at it I'm amazed by it's beauty and every time I plug it in the sound just seems to get better and better! I would pick a Gibson any day over any other guitar no matter what

  • @uterallindenbaum because no two pieces of wood are the same

  • yeah, gibson are the best but how can people even know this while no one is able to afford one?

  • @KingOfShadows1500 Just because you can't doesn't mean other people can't afford them.

  • @JPX7NGD that was a joke and by there i wanted to say that gibson guitar are so fucking expensive and overpriced... and btw would you pay 50 000$ to get one of these master museum collection acoustic guitar? i dont think so :P

  • And over here we have our lawyers waiting to sew any guitar company that becomes a threat to us we've had over 10 sucessful cases

  • Agile al-2000...hint hint look up rondo music..best les paul copy guitars for a cheap prince ever! there downright amazing!!

  • @yugijan2196 al 3000, the al-2000 have a lot of work to do on them.

  • he sounds like the snowman of monsters inc lol

  • @2003jackb

naaar i think he sounds like Ham from toy story ;)

  • The name Gibson is synonymous with overpriced.

  • @plinkytx Shame they're worth it though

  • @fynney1996 For monetary investments maybe, but they just don't peak my interest. To me they're a one trick pony, and it's more involved to tailor them to you liking. I can do anything to/with my Strats/Strat clones.

  • agreed........ taylor has better tone in my view

  • Comment removed

  • @TomLeoH You are mistaken. I owned a Les Paul Custom at one time (too heavy, too one sided in the tone department for me). The only Gibson I still have is an M3 Standard that I bought as my first "real" guitar new in 1991(owned 3 of them in the 90s). Alas, they don't make those anymore (or anything similar), or my comments might be different. Next time ask before you make any smartass comments. PS - I also play WAAAAY better than you (25+ years).

  • Comment removed

  • @plinkytx u must be a federal agent.

  • @rw5791 While I don't agree with the current administration's actions towards Gibson, I still think Gibson is overpriced. I actually thought about buying one after this incident, but I can't afford $2-3000 for a Les Paul. I can find guitars that play just as good (if not better) for way less.

  • @plinkytx well, they are made in the USA but at least gibson is non union.Otherwise their guitars would cost 4000$.

  • @rw5791 This incident alone will probably be enough to drive the price up to that amount. I was almost ready to sell my Ford and buy a Toyota after the gas pedal fiasco. ;D

  • and they sued ibanez

  • You can't even afford a damn Gibson, they cost like 3000 dollars.

  • @beast6228 I have one, I payed $1580 and its the best guitar Ive ever had

  • @beast6228 You see those people working on these guitars, they're all going to lose their jobs, thanks to Obama and the DOJ. These are better guitars because they're made in the U.S.A. DOJ raided them for bogus violations and put it in writing that Gibson would be better off if they moved their manufacturing to Madagasgar!! Vanilla comes from Madagasgar, not Guitars. Pray for these guys. KEEP AMERICANS EMPLOYED BY BUY GIBSON GUITARS.

  • @beast6228 but its so worth it

  • I prefer Dommenget and Huber guitars but Gibsons are quite good. I have a Gold Top les paul that I adore

  • I'm more of a Fender fan, but hell, I'd kill for a Les Paul.

  • Joe Diffie's red acoustic at 1:52 is so beautiful!!! Love the fret board!!

  • Gibson used to be the working mans geetar, but only a doctors paycheck should help ya achieve one to own .a 800 dollar axe to make, but 5000 if you want plastic and a very weak neck.this is not very reassuring when it comes to how you want to spend your money in these days of economic decline. more people should get into building ther own guitars.

  • @2:08 is that strung right handed?

  • FUCK! now most of gibson guitars are fuckin made in China!!! what's that all about?

  • @bonkersblock are you retarded? no they aren't

  • @bonkersblock Check your facts, tool - ALL Gibsons are made in the US.

  • Well, the employees seem like a legendary bunch of guys and gals, id love to work there haha!

  • cool

  • As far as the Gibson Acoustics go, they are the most overpriced guitars ever. I picked up a Hummingbird and it was absolutely miserable to play. It had high action and a really thick neck.

I'll stick to Taylor's and Martins

  • 4:41 The Edge! a true effects master!

  • You should look up "hamer guitar factory tour". Hamers are beautiful; much better than Gibson.

  • beautiful guitar R.I.P. Les Paul

  • I wish my bandsaw cut that fast. :(

  • Gibson always reminds me of racist rednecks. I think thats why i hate gibson electric guitars.

  • was he playing his guitar upside down?

  • @skatingwar yes

  • @caulinrocker Are you sure they come close to the real thing? I dunno about that, have you owned one too?

  • @bollockart Most of those Epiphone are made in india, indonesia or china.

  • they r the best:P

i have a white les paul AWSOME :)

  • Gibsons are too expensive, pls make your guitar cheaper and affordable.

  • people talk of their guitars as if they were human. well of course they do because guitars are almost human they are all unique with thier own voices no to guitars are identicle

  • Overpriced.

  • Ed Roman would puke if he saw this haha.

  • l0l this factory got closed down due to illeagle wood in there guitars

  • Gibsons are great guitars and the have what just a few guitars have.. a soul.

I will try to attach a video i have uploaded whitch is a comparison between a prs a Gibson Les paul and an EVH Wolfgang, ande you can see what i mean.

    Cheers

  • i have an epiphone lp special 2 its better than my friends gibson lp standard

  • The fake ones?? Man if you guys ever knew what Gibson does. They have a factory in Shanghai, China where they're making Gibson guitars. And I'm not just talking about Epiphone either.

Btw, they did have contraband wood. It was Madagaskar rosewood bought through a German supplier who in turn, bought it from African poachers. Those trees are also protected because an endangered species of lemurs live on them. Most of us are better off buying older Gibsons I suspect!

  • @darthinfurnus Or a fender for that matter!

  • looks just like the factory in china that makes the fake ones

  • my new gibson j200 custom

  • in my opinion gibsons are overrated theyre not my sort of guitars

  • U know y Gibson workers r happy?Cause u pay 5000$ and up for a Gibson...

  • @MrMethadrine Most Gibson employees aren't happy. I used to work there. They really have the role of a task master down to a science.

  • my new gibson

  • Clownburst !! @ 6:00

  • i want to work there

  • @Ronaldino150

    me to

  • I hate that they sued ESP :( Now ESP Explorer look weird and not cool :(

  • @Masterfighterx Yeah, They Sued Paul Reed Smith too.

  • @phallystorm Really? Why?

  • @phallystorm i hated that even more than esp or the other companies they sued. you don't see fender suing the hundreds of companies that use their style bodies. you can't deny gibson's tone though.

  • @JMorr1029 Can't blame them for not wanting to look like everything else. I get annoyed with all the finder style bodies that a lot of companies base off of. We need more imagination and less copy'n'. Yeah, I love the tone of a Les Paul.

  • @Clipster15 yea i agree. they just need to lighten up i think. gibson needs to quit worrying about losing sales to people with similar bodies. as long as they keep producing that same beautiful tone, people will keep buying from them. i don't buy from companies for their looks, but otherwise for their tones. the looks are just a nice feature. i am more of a fender guy, but no one can deny that nothing compares to the les paul.

  • @phallystorm I think they've sued just about everybody. I think they even sued themselves...

  • @Masterfighterx They sued esp? Cause I know that back in the day they had that gibson headstock on explorers.

  • @306741lock They did sue ESP in late 90s i prefer ESP/LTD over any Gibson/Epiphone much more guitar for the money

  • @Masterfighterx gibson makes enough money, its just low to sue ESP

  • @zinc4life Agreed

  • @Masterfighterx right on dude id buy a esp explorer if they had the old gibson bana stock but whats better is the ibanez destroyers.i want one in maple neck and body

  • im glad i bought mine 6 months after the feds accused gibson of getting illegaly imported wood

hopefully its not true a sortted out

  • this is where my sg was born =D

  • I dont like the way an sg looks

  • ah well i love mine and she sounds beautiful

but every one has there opinion

  • i want one =(

  • i dont care if upper managment sucks

    their not gibson

the pride and passion of the workers is gibson

  • no, marketing is

  • wrong, thats henry j passion

the workers just like building the guitars

    to me thats gibson

  • ok, that sounds very romantic to me and indeed it is different than chinese sweatschops. but compare a gibson to a prs, taylor, fender and even less powerfull brands and then i think the pricedifference is basically marketing ;).

  • maybe so, but the workers like the guitars so that does it for me

    and they are awesome guitars

  • parker guitar RULES

  • I've noticed there's no footage here of the CEO flogging his factory workers as they work. "Faster! Faster! My wife needs another Botox injection!"

  • Comment removed

  • i´d love to work for gibson!

  • jimmy page mainly used gibson but he occaisionally used a telecaster

  • you wouldnt see that many smilly faces in Fender

  • @mtswansea No, that's just called good television or marketing sir

  • gibsons are amazing ive never seen factory workers so happy theres so much passion flowing around there

  • You guys and your Fender vs Gibson lets just admit it Esteban makes better guitars then either of those panzeees!!!! I hear you can get a cape and a hat with your purchase as well!!!! Now that is swell!!!! I think The Beatles used Esteban guitars only. Oh that indie artist Jimmy Page he did too!!!!!

  • yeah and they're made outta real wood too! He says so in the infomercial...LOL!

  • but his main guitar is a double neck gibson

  • you are a dickwad

he used it for 1 song you arab not mainly you dick

  • @06mgibson actually part of stairway was recorded on a telecaster

  • yeah, the solo is def a tele

  • no u must be retarded because jimmy page used strats, les pauls, teles, a double neck and a few danelectros. and these are only the electrics

  • And you're a stupid piece of shit! Page also used Telecaters and Strat in his career.

  • God american build quality is nothing what us used to be though. Companies are just milking the fact that they a re located in the USA. Made in america doesn't shit anymore. no one milks this like Gibson and fender. I saw this video about a japanese guitar company, and craftsman actually knock on the wood and feel the vibrations it makes to decide if they wanna build a guitar out of it. Yamaha L series i think it was. but thats hard core. of course it was a old japanese dude doing the work.

  • I've spent the las 18 years with Gibson and Fender Custom Shop so I know a thing or 2 about guitar building and that knocking on the wood or "Tap Testing" is a bunch of crap. It's kinda become an old wives' tale of sorts but it's ridiculous to do it on an electric guitar, because of the pickups beiing 98% of where the tone is generated. An acoustic I can find a bit easier to swallow. If that old man tap tested a body blank for an electric he should be fired on the spot for wasting company time!

  • Thats lame they chamber the les paul. part of les paul's vibe is the weight.

  • Fender strat for me. I play surf style rock so fender makes sense. I hate people who make a big war out of fender vs. gibson. You're not gonna get the same kinda twang out of a les paul like you get out of telecaster, and nothing gets the type of shimmer as the tremolo piece of a strat. I do like me a ES 330. But fender is straight raw no nonsense, no gay flame top, or burst, or over done binding.

  • Can I tell you the truth. I played a gibson ounce at a guitar shop when I got enough guts to pick one up. it blows a fender out of the water in niceness. the sound is good but diff. a good fender has a good but diff sound. but i am a fender man cause I aint got the balls for a gibson.

  • I had one of the last solid body Pauls made in the 80s. Then some whiney ass midget shredder complained about the weight and Gibson said: Oh, poor little headbanger! Let's take all of the sustain and rich wood tone out by drilling huge holes in the body and then simulate that tone with electronics. Okee, wouldn't that be nice? Oh, and we'll make sure to not tell anyone what we did so they keep buying them.

  • Gibson is good. I'm a Fender man. My experience: Gibson guitars don' t stay in tune very well and parts rattle on them. I've played for 44 years. Take it easy! They're still good .
