Actually there are some standards of funny. Funny is inherently understood by some but there's definitely and art to it. Those who understand what's funny can make an script funnier, sometimes. This is why comedy writers get paid the big bucks, and good comedy writers get paid more than mediocre ones. Sometimes it's not just being funny, but thinking of enough possibilities quickly so you can pick and choose the funniest stuff. This is why people who are funny are also quick-witted. ;)
i love your videos. they are so original and fresh. very funny. i hope you can make more. im a new subscriber! i've watched about 10 vids so far and love them!
@freedomrace1 Absolutely! I spend a good deal of my time traveling around advocating for Atheism/Humanism/Skepticism/Secularism. If you're not worried about religion, you haven't been paying attention for the last 2,000 years. It's dangerous stuff!!!
@misterdeity Interesting stuff. Advocating for your laundry list of 'ism's seem to be rather absolutist, which is always dangerous in itself. Wouldn't you say that there is some good in religion your advocacy would cause innocent collateral damage to?
@freedomrace1 Absolutist? Because I have a point of view? In real life, we don't ask, "well, is there any good that comes from this?" We ask, "what is the overall balance of good to bad?" There is no system in history that did absolutely NO good. In terms of the good to bad ratio, I don't think that's in question. And the more telling point is that the more religious a society gets -- the more closely it follows its Holy Book(s) -- the worse the world becomes. That's case closed for me.
@misterdeity I agree, the sum total is what's relevant, not merely if any good has been done. However, you and your intellectual colleagues seem to highlight the negative religion has caused and obscure, even deny the positive. For example, Hitlerism and Stalinism and Maoism were clearly atheistic doctrines, secular religions if you like, and have caused more suffering than any religiously motivated evil. And the abolitionist movement was predominantly Christian, not atheist. Do I have a point?
@freedomrace1 No. Sorry, you don't. First, the totalitarian states of Hitler, Stalin, and Mao were not liberal, secular, democracies. That's what Humanists, Atheists, Skeptics, etc... advocate. Those regimes followed the Christian European model of the totalitarian state -- simply replacing religion with political ideology. And to say that a movement was "Christian" in a a country whose population was 99% Christian is not meaningful. What else would it be? Hindu?
@misterdeity My point exactly. Atheists tend to deny most, if not all non-theist wrong doing and inflate theistic malfeasance. To claim that Stalin, Hitler and Mao followed a "Christian European model," in my opinion, is intellectually dishonest. Like I said, they may have been secular religions, but a God-based religion they were not. They did in fact elevate man-kind to the level of God, which is wholly antithetical to normative supra-natural monotheistic religions.
@freedomrace1 Well, I'm a secular humanist/Skeptic. Those are the things I believe in. Atheism is merely a statement identifying that I don't believe in any Gods. So you'd have to show me where the secular humanist/skeptics have done great evil, not Nazi's and Communists (I'm against them as much as I'm against religion -- and for the same reasons! Religious folks like yourself need to stop conflating secular humanism/skepticism with totalitarian ideologies.
@freedomrace1 As for the claim that the totalitarian regimes of Nazism and Communism were not like those of totalitarian Christian Europe, you are simply not well-informed. Look at the two back to back. They used the same tactics of terror, fear, inquisition and servitude -- they were merely state religions. There were true "Christian" nations before 1776, and people risked their lives to get the hell out of them. When Christians had power, they created hell on Earth. Need I say more?
@misterdeity Same for the abolitionist movement. Denying the cause to the end of a universal phenomena in 99.9% Judeo-Christian ethos is also intellectually dishonest. It's interesting that the solid evidence that Christianity was the overwhelmingly predominant religion in America, and "born equal with inalienable rights bestowed by the creator" is not sufficient evidence for it's key role in abolition. Do you think you're being totally genuine?
@freedomrace1 Well, first of all, early America was not very well churched. They had seen what religion had done in Europe and were worried about organized religion. But he bigger problem for you is that it was Christians who were practicing slavery in the first place -- with the blessing of their Holy Book -- and who were fighting against its abolition. The Biblical God couldn't even figure out that enslaving other humans was and is evil. God condones slavery -- another blight on religion.
@misterdeity Oh and don't forget all the good Christian men and women who exterminated the California Indians in the Gold Rush. They were good church going folk...who only wanted their $10 for an arm.
@freedomrace1 To be clear, I am against all religion and anything that requires unquestioning loyalty to any being (God, Stalin, Mao, etc...). I am for the values of humanism, skepticism, and liberal democracy (human rights, liberty, reason, equality, tolerance, justice, knowledge and science, due process, etc...). And the main reason I'm against religion is that it has (and frequently continues to) fought nearly all of these values.
When Paris Hilton went to serve her 30-day jail sentence, the LA County Sheriff made sure that she was booked in at 11:00 pm on her first day and was let out at 1:00 am on her last day. That's two days' credit for only 2 hours of hard time. So Jesus and Paris Hilton have something in common.
@TheYouMeAtSix94 You mean, "I'm not sure if I find this funny"? You realize there is no objective standard for what is funny, right? Or were you ordained to bear that standard and I just didn't hear about it. If so, my deepest apologies. If not, you should know that this episode has been voted the No. 1 Deity episode in two (very unscientific) polls. Of course, that means nothing if you're now the czar of funny.
@misterdeity I think he implies that there is a certian quality of humor that people come to expect. Suchas saying "poopy" over and over is completely subjective, but the quality of it's witt and humor may seem lacking compared to other material. I kindof agree with TheYouMe because it feels too much like the Office, white-walls, the dry dry dry humor of back'n'forths taken from two individuals acting serious, etc. Sure there is no objective to humor, doesn't mean there isn't quality to it.
LOL... you guys are amazing........ Love it... this coming from an EX Bible Thumping ASS... then I saw the light of intelligent reasoning where yes I use this brain that I have to critically think for myself and not be under a trance!!!!

Yes. I've had a rash of new subscribers and I finally asked a few of them why it was happening. They mentioned him, and I have already thanked him for the plug.
You guys really should be making millions. Don't let anything stop you from making these videos. You're dealing with this horrible thing (=religion) with humour, and that is just an amazing way to 'sprwad the message'.
@misterdeity unfortunately what you believe doesnt change reality. alot of people believe alot of things. there are some people who don't believe that smoking causes cancer, this doesn't change reality it just displays their own stupidity. "a fool says in his heart that there is no God"
You spend your life mocking a God you clearly don't understand at all, I don't understand how you could study God for 30 yrs & still know so little, I am truly sad for you.
@junky2fk I have to admit, it would be very funny if it weren't so detrimental to his (& those whom he leads into doubt) souls. Just as I love my family, if someone were mischaracterizing & mocking them, I would b compelled correct the error, 4 their own reputation sake, it is the same w/my God, who I know & love. The consequences of his actions will come on his head & b more than he can bare, out of concern for his sake, I feel that it is the humane thing to warn him (Heb 10:31)
this simply shows you're insecure about your religion if you have to constantly defend yourself simply because some dude on the internet, whom you never met, is poking fun at your religion. people mock buddhism, islam, and even the president. do the monks talk back? no, they don't care about these petty things. how about islam? oh yes, they blew up two buildings in New York. what about the president? nah, he just laughs and goes back to work on the more important things in life.
@junky2fk What's funny is that you think I'm insecure about my religion, if I was I wouldn't be saying anything, the fact that I REALLY believe what I believe is the motivation for these posts,I REALLY believe that souls live forever & we will be accountable for every idle word spoken. I REALLY have a passion for people & REALLY don't want people being led astray when hell is the consequence. the reason I watched cause the 1st 1 I saw was the 1 on time & I laughed my butt off, it was awesome!
from the way you defend it (assuming your defending it), i do think you are insecure about it. but ever try to look at what your passion is from a muslim's point of view? they think you're corrupting their minds by trying to (in your POV) "save" their "astrayed souls." many people believe that souls live forever. many people believe we are accountable for our words. but be careful, your passion might just be an offense to someone else's religion
you are merely perceiving to yourself this as harm done to yourself and, without the concent of your religious brothers and sisters, your religious brothers and sisters. some people takes this on the light side, laugh a bit, and move on with life. i still think you should lighten up.
@think4myself1 I don't mock him anywhere near as much as believers like you. You believe in a God so evil that he orders genocide, the murder of gays, non-virgins, disobedient children, sabbath breakers, etc... And is so stupid he doesn't understand female anatomy, basic geography, or that the moon is not a light source. Finally, he's so awful that he'll have people tortured 4ever simply for not believing or exercising their free will. I can't even begin to compete with that level of mockery.
I disagree with your Bruce Almighty comment. They didn't come close to getting their hands dirty on these big issues because they had to appeal to a broad, Christian audience who (I'm finding out) wouldn't tolerate something that hits a little harder like Mr. Deity (apparently, you're one of them). And take the entire Mr. Deity series, add up the time and the number of jokes. I'll bet you dimes to doughnuts there are more jokes per minute in Mr. Deity.
The first twenty seconds of this episode may still be my favorite moment in the show so far. Has me rolling every time.

Proving my point! Sorry just picking on you Christian boy :-P no offense
NEXUS1A 2 years ago
You're making no sense. If you're so desperate to be picking on a Christian, why don't you go find someone who actually IS a Christian?
Your inability to produce coherent written language isn't making this any easier.
Catrambi 2 years ago
LOL it is coherent enough for your response good enough for me !! and the 1st reply wasn't for you it was for Kendall Chiq!!

You guys really should be making millions. Don't let anything stop you from making these videos. You're dealing with this horrible thing (=religion) with humour, and that is just an amazing way to 'sprwad the message'.
Praise Mr.Deity!

I don't believe in blasphemy -- or any thought crimes, for that matter.
misterdeity 2 years ago 5
@misterdeity unfortunately what you believe doesnt change reality. alot of people believe alot of things. there are some people who don't believe that smoking causes cancer, this doesn't change reality it just displays their own stupidity. "a fool says in his heart that there is no God"
You spend your life mocking a God you clearly don't understand at all, I don't understand how you could study God for 30 yrs & still know so little, I am truly sad for you.

@think4myself1
LOL dude
alot of people believe alot of things, man.
chill with it, open your mind, and enjoy the humor.
why so serious?
junky2fk 1 year ago
@junky2fk I have to admit, it would be very funny if it weren't so detrimental to his (& those whom he leads into doubt) souls. Just as I love my family, if someone were mischaracterizing & mocking them, I would b compelled correct the error, 4 their own reputation sake, it is the same w/my God, who I know & love. The consequences of his actions will come on his head & b more than he can bare, out of concern for his sake, I feel that it is the humane thing to warn him (Heb 10:31)
think4myself1 1 year ago
@think4myself1
this simply shows you're insecure about your religion if you have to constantly defend yourself simply because some dude on the internet, whom you never met, is poking fun at your religion. people mock buddhism, islam, and even the president. do the monks talk back? no, they don't care about these petty things. how about islam? oh yes, they blew up two buildings in New York. what about the president? nah, he just laughs and goes back to work on the more important things in life.
junky2fk 1 year ago
@junky2fk What's funny is that you think I'm insecure about my religion, if I was I wouldn't be saying anything, the fact that I REALLY believe what I believe is the motivation for these posts,I REALLY believe that souls live forever & we will be accountable for every idle word spoken. I REALLY have a passion for people & REALLY don't want people being led astray when hell is the consequence. the reason I watched cause the 1st 1 I saw was the 1 on time & I laughed my butt off, it was awesome!
think4myself1 1 year ago
@think4myself1 ever read the poisonwood bible?
from the way you defend it (assuming your defending it), i do think you are insecure about it. but ever try to look at what your passion is from a muslim's point of view? they think you're corrupting their minds by trying to (in your POV) "save" their "astrayed souls." many people believe that souls live forever. many people believe we are accountable for our words. but be careful, your passion might just be an offense to someone else's religion
junky2fk 1 year ago
@junky2fk Once again, there is a huge difference between religion and truth.
think4myself1 1 year ago
@think4myself1 that's the problem
junky2fk 1 year ago
@think4myself1
you are merely perceiving to yourself this as harm done to yourself and, without the concent of your religious brothers and sisters, your religious brothers and sisters. some people takes this on the light side, laugh a bit, and move on with life. i still think you should lighten up.
junky2fk 1 year ago
@think4myself1 I don't mock him anywhere near as much as believers like you. You believe in a God so evil that he orders genocide, the murder of gays, non-virgins, disobedient children, sabbath breakers, etc... And is so stupid he doesn't understand female anatomy, basic geography, or that the moon is not a light source. Finally, he's so awful that he'll have people tortured 4ever simply for not believing or exercising their free will. I can't even begin to compete with that level of mockery.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
This one is actually pretty funny. Although it's missed actual orthodox Christianity by a long way.
The idea of a "God" in the image of modern man is not that new - Bruce Almighty did it better and with more jokes.
mhopwood1 2 years ago
I disagree with your Bruce Almighty comment. They didn't come close to getting their hands dirty on these big issues because they had to appeal to a broad, Christian audience who (I'm finding out) wouldn't tolerate something that hits a little harder like Mr. Deity (apparently, you're one of them). And take the entire Mr. Deity series, add up the time and the number of jokes. I'll bet you dimes to doughnuts there are more jokes per minute in Mr. Deity.
