I think that for an expert on Eva Peron (such a yourself) should be pronouncing her name correctly. It's pronounced Eva PerON, not Eve PerOWN. (But I agree that Faye Dunaway looked/was too old in this movie).
Well...um; I'm from Argentina and my cousins have the same surname (not related though) and I guess it just sounded strange to me with your American accent. No offence meant, and I hope none was taken.
I see you deleted my response comment. Hee hee. You go ahead and pronounce it as you wish, my friend. As I said, it's just your thick American accent that threw me. No offence was meant.
@LancelotandNando I didn't delete your comment. All comments on my videos require approval because I don't want mean comments getting through. Yes, I can understand that my American accent would sound different. I can speak Spanish and say it in a Spanish accent too, though.
I would say she was a saint in my eyes, best portrayal Faye Dunaway. Madonna's Evita in 1996 was a musical and also madonna was a bad pick because she was and still is a promiscuous singer. She should just stick to singing!
Your opinion is valid, but I have a family member who was a prostitute for years, and from their own admission became an unsexual person.. When sex is a commodity for a person or a source of income, I feel a person would naturally shy away from being that way or down right resent it. And for Eva who was constantly trying to outlive her scandalous past, of course, she would probably be an unsexual person.
If grass is green, does that mean everything that is green is grass?
In other words, I'm sure there are many reasons that people can become asexual. But prostitution as an option is ruled out in Eva Peron's case, at least according to all serious scholars.
Fraser and Navarro write that she was successful in the entertainment business because she was thoroughly dependable. She showed up on time and was a hard worker.
I haven't ever actually read a book about Eva, I have only seen a specials and documentaries and articles... But I heard a interviews that said she was a prima donna and showed up late a lot?
That was Libertad Lamarque in the interview with Biography, which can be found here on YouTube.
I recall Libertad in that interview saying that she said to Evita, "I'm not going to have lunch with you. I'd rather be with my own class of people."
Argentina is a very class conscious country. Libertad was probably jealous that a girl from the slums was climbing the ladder of cinema. Fraser and Navarro write that most who knew her in those days say she was polite and quiet.
True, I do love Eva... I truly admire her story, it's that of an underdog... But it is so hard t find hard proof of anything about her sometimes... Every account sometimes seem fairy tail like? You know? Its all so interesting!
In Argentina there's a huge literature on her and she's a continually analyzed woman. But in the US there are only a handful of books available, and most were published to capitalize on the interest raised about her from the musical and then the movie.
I think she did well with what she was working with. But the movie is not accurate. It's a variation of what is referred to as "the Black Myth of Eva Peron."
Lastly, this may be the reason Eva abondoned her more flamboyant way of dressing post 1947 & dressed more severe/business-like, Eva may have also disliked the way she was being portrayed. If you read the articles written by TIME/LIFE magazine they make reference to her "well rounded bossum", "shapely neck", "shapely 5foot 5 inch figure", "coldly sexy manner" etc. But I do think that the ardent Peronist take it just as far as depriving her any sexuality whatsoever. With Eva, its black or white.
CONT: I remember reading an interview with a Peronist & he was adamant, that as beautiful as Eva was she was not sexual AT ALL & he almost took it as an insult but the interviewer stated that Eva may not have been sexual but when you dress up in form-fitting floral dresses & skin-tight strapless gowns, & considering Eva (as JM Taylor also states in her book) had some voluptous attributes (hips, thighs, long legs, ankles), the image that comes across on film is a very "sexed-up" image.
I agree with Navarro and Fraser in their comments, Dunaway looked far too old for the part, however she made the most of the part & as inaccurate as the film is, it's somewhat enjoyable.
In regards to Eva's sexuality, I think, for the most part, Eva's physical appearance, especially during her early years as First Lady is one of the reasons her sexuality is always scrutinized. Eva may have been "non-sexual" but the way she dressed stated otherwise.
Thank you for your video response. I'm glad you enjoy my uploads of Evita. It's interesting to hear about the inaccuracies, but I guess once the producers got a star of the magnitude of Dunaway (especially in 1980) it was hard not to play up the sexiness that Dunaway embodied at the time. Thanks again, Todd
Most portrayals of Eva Peron are inaccurate. I think it's because her real history is too complicated and obscure for a mainstream audience. It's easier to insert her into various pre-ordained categories than to realize that she was totally unlike any other woman in history. You can't really get this across in a Hollywood movie or Broadway musical whose main objective is to entertain. Like Patti Lupone once said, she wasn't responsible for writing a thesis, just playing the part as written.
what do you mean non sexual?

I said it correctly. You've written it strangely. In Spanish her name is correctly pronounced "AY-vah pay-ROWN."

To many she is the embodiment of Evil.

I am not saying she was an actual prostitute, but She apparently have a lot of 'connections', that got her into the entertainment business...
