I couldn't believe when I saw this video, da lady on the left dancing is my good friend Keola. I miss her so much. I wander how she's doing since I moved away from home.
Translation = Where are you my wind-borne fragrance Companion of mine What do you think your are doing Avoiding me Like the Pu`ulena wind Chorus: I thought all was right between us Why do you keep me waiting Hurry so we may be together And I`ll be pleased my dear companion I am longing to see The bubbling spring The Tuahine rain, the rainbow's arch In that distant upland Here am I bedecked Thrilled with the fragrance And sweet honey of lehua flowers
Lyrics = `Auhea o moani` ke `ala Hoapili o mi nei A he aha kau hana E paweo nei E ka makani Pu`ulena Hui: Kuhi au a he pono keia Au e ho`apa`apa mai nei E wiki mai `oe i pono kaua I `olu ho`i au e ke hoa Ho`ohihi aku au e `ike la I ka wai mapunapuna Rain Tuahine pi`o anuenue `Oia uka `iu`iu Eia ho`i au ua wehi Ua li`a ke onaona La wai `ona a ka lehua Wai mukiki a ka manu
Good man. Preserving old songs or work of art is honourable, which otherwise would be lost through time. In days gone by when there were no radio or television, folks simply enjoy singing songs together. The Uke is magical in the hands of some people. You have my applause. Izham / Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
For school right now I'm doing a project called my mountain and my mountain is Puu Kamau which goes right down into Pololu Valley. The last time I was there, I was 11 years old and we stayed with my Uncle, Uncly Kindy, the one singing this song. I wish I had the chance to go back and learn more from him before his passing last year, it would have come in handy right now and he was the best story teller. I miss him and I bet many others do as well. Miss you Uncle Kindy!!!
Sadly, Kindy Sproat passed away this week on Monday 12/15/08. He was an amazing musician, great falsetto singer, and incredible story teller. Aloha ke Akua Kindy-- and thanks for the beautiful mele.
This is my Uncle, we last saw him 3yrs ago..our last picture to gether was in the valley in front of his house, He will be missed.
This man comes from the lineage of the Kapuna's of Kamehameha, first descendants of the first Spanish/Mexican Vaqueros that was commissioned by the King to teach the Hawaiians to become cowboys "Paniolos".
these girls dont even appear to be hawaiians...put some real polynesian hawaiians to be more traditional...mimicking dont count for tradition and culture
they do 2 look like polynesian hawaiians they at least have hawaiian blood u can tell by looking at thier faces and u do not need real polynesian hawaiians for it to be more traditional, and it does count for tradition and culture.
First off, if you're Hawaiian you should know that it's how you live that defines who you are not how you look. So if you need to be taught how to be Hawaiian then here's your lesson...Living Hawaiian is as important to being Hawaiian than it is to merely look Hawaiian but act real stink towards those that don't look like you.
that film was shot in the mid 1980's. You can still buy the DVD on amazon-dot-com : it called "Hawaiian Rainbow" You will cry from joy it's so good. Aloha.
I have that DVD... it's a real gem. My favorite are the Lana'i hulas... and the ones by the Kanaka'ole Halau. It's sister DVD "Hawaiian Rainbow" is great too. YOu can get the pair for like $10 from Amazon - well worth the money..stunning photography and stunning singing and dancing. Aloha!

Hey-- Kindy doesn't look "Hawaiian" either if you're trying to stereotype people. Not every "Hawaiian" has dark skin & dark hair, ya know.
