Anybody familiar with Bessie Smith knows this is blasphemy, and I love judy, how this sucks... I can't find a Bessie version. This was a time where they were just telling her what to sing and she was just spitting it back... So sad.

THEN to top that,...You SHARE it w/ us!The only other version of this tune I've heard, even have the 78, is by Bessie Smith toward the end of her career, & w/ a chorus backup. It's wonderful, but to hear Judy perform this more complicated musical arrangement when she was about 13 is Amazing! This arrangement is so indicative of Judy's beloved musical mentor at MGM - Roger Edens. At 13, Judy was placed under the tutelage of Mr. Edens and that was fate working at its happy best. He understood her capabilities better than anybody else, and pushed his 13 year-old charge to be even better than she already was. This song from Judy (at the ripe-old age of 14!) shows what an incredible vocal gymnast she was - even then. Wonderful graphics Michele! Thanks for the great work!

Wonderful! Her voice here is at its best (with the exception of later Star Is Born moments) -- but this is where her voice technically was most consistent and pleasing. But that doesn't always matter. This was a "magic personality and quality" that comes along but once. Great Stuff.

I've never heard it before - I know that she recorded for Decca and M-G-M and later on for Capitol Records - but her live Radio recordings are hard to find - thanks for sharing, Michele ~ Great job as always.

Surprise! ... It might be one that hasn't been heard alot because the audio was reeeaallly bad. Took some time to clean it up ... it's worth hearing! I thought the world would like to share in a rare wonder that Judy sang. There are still some unknown mysteries about it ... Like ... Who did the musical arrangement? Re-worked some of the lyrics? ... Many speculate it was Roger Edens.
