I think we're just missing how the Scottish nobles raised an army against Mary in 1567. On June 15th they were successful, captured Mary, and imprisoned her in Loch Leven Castle. She miscarried Bothwell's twins and was forced to abdicate the Scottish throne to her infant James.

I thought that she was fleeing back to France but that her ship was forced into an English port in a storm and she was sent to London a prisoner.

The legacy of all this religous conflict is still seen in Glasgow and District where bigotry still rules. Most other parts of Scotland no one seems to care about one's religion, but in Glasgow, most definitely.
