..after 15min it started working again and gears changed with no problem..again next day at 5.30pm same shit and no brake lights workn..i went to ford and they wanted$400 to diagnose and fix..i said fuck that and went to lordco and picked up part for under $20 and did it myself..no probs so far.
started having problems aswell...brake light switch is faulty..has problems going into park or into gear from park sometimes..what i did was i went underneath steering columm and plugged the gear release so it always shifts. and then i found out it was the brake light switch.underground parking i was pushing on the brakes hard and didnt notice the lights at all and it wouldnt shift
I have a Black 2002 Ford explorer XLT with 68,000 miles on the OD and I've been a happy owner. No complains here! And about the transmission problems, just change the fluid and filter and stop crying.
guys i use 2 have a 02 explorer and the bank repo my suv.................i dont care cuz now i drive a good suv....NISSAN ARMADA is way better than EXPLORER.....65000 miles on the EXPLORER and i have a lot a problems with the tranny.......
I also have a 02 Explorer. Mine does the exact same thing ever since i bought it. and i bought it with 48,000 and it currently has 108,000. So the trans. is fine, its just the characteristic of the 3rd gerneration Explorers.
i have a ford explorer just like that, with the 4.6L V8 as well and i had the same problems. it would jerk shifting gears, clunk into reverse, and it got gradually worse. you will most likely start seeing the O/D Off light start flashing on and off. it only gets worse from there. you need to have the tranny replaced. thats what i did and it was well worth the $3000. the explorer is a tough truck and you'll be glad to get it back into performance shape
u might just need to get a new tranny thats what i had to do with mine at 200,000 miles but its worth the money to get the tranny replaced cause the explorer is such a great truck
this truck needs a trans now at 167000 miles, i just changed the whole coolant intake in sept. 09 and now the trans lost 2nd and 5th gear.
