Texas didn't give up any "millions of acres of land". Texas retained title to their public land. The only state that I know of that did so. They also retained their public debt created while a republic. And war with Mexico had little, if anything, to do with it. Texas had intended to join the union from the start. It was getting in that was the problem. Especially with the slavery issue. Which is one reason they revolted against Mexico. Mexico was anti-slavery.

TX refused 1st, but then took both stimulus packages. & we're not just talking stimulus packages, we're also talking about any $ the US gov gave to TX to assist in natural disasters ect. The companies may be in TX, but you're talking about a state that's about 1/4 the size of my province. I doubt TX produces as much oil as Canada. And it's a fact that the US purchases the majority of it's oil from Canada. What else does TX produce?
@Cerridwen247 Texas is ranked number 1 in the country in agricultur. we supply 20% of the countrys beef. which is number one we are behind california in the dairy feild. we are also the countrys number one cotton producers making like 33% ( dont hold me to that number its between like 28 35%) Were also the countrys number one manufacuring and mining states. seeing how we do supply america with 1/3 of the countrys oil and natural gas. and we dont have to pay back anything if we leave.
@3030johnny Canada provides the US with provides 87% of all US natural gas imports (IE; Crude oil, gasoline and regular natural gas) and this is all from the Canadian gov's website. TX is not a self supporting state. It has some of the lowest employment rates and the highest percentage of ppl w/o healthcare. You would have to pay back the US government. If you didn't, don't you think the secessionists would have their own party in DC like the BQ has in Ottawa making noise about leaving?

If there were a civil war today Washington would implode w/in a month from it's own inefficiency, unwieldy beuracracy, and overall poor management. Texas didn't give up any "millions of acres of land". Texas retained title to their public land. The only state that I know of that did so. They also retained their public debt created while a republic. And war with Mexico had little, if anything, to do with it. Texas had intended to join the union from the start. It was getting in that was the problem. Especially with the slavery issue. Which is one reason they revolted against Mexico. Mexico was anti-slavery.

Why oh cuz texas still has jobs cuz they stood up to feds. Who holds and supplies over 83% of reserve oil to the U.S. texas. And for the guy who said bomb them iraqi style!!! Yeah, you also have to pay back the US all the money you borrowed from us to help your state. Then you have to set up your own Gov, economy, trade, establish yourself in the world economy ect. TX refused 1st, but then took both stimulus packages. & we're not just talking stimulus packages, we're also talking about any $ the US gov gave to TX to assist in natural disasters ect. The companies may be in TX, but you're talking about a state that's about 1/4 the size of my province. I doubt TX produces as much oil as Canada. And it's a fact that the US purchases the majority of it's oil from Canada. What else does TX produce?

@Cerridwen247 Texas is ranked number 1 in the country in agricultur. we supply 20% of the countrys beef. which is number one we are behind california in the dairy feild. we are also the countrys number one cotton producers making like 33% ( dont hold me to that number its between like 28 35%) Were also the countrys number one manufacuring and mining states. seeing how we do supply america with 1/3 of the countrys oil and natural gas. and we dont have to pay back anything if we leave.

@3030johnny Canada provides the US with provides 87% of all US natural gas imports (IE; Crude oil, gasoline and regular natural gas) and this is all from the Canadian gov's website. TX is not a self supporting state. It has some of the lowest employment rates and the highest percentage of ppl w/o healthcare. You would have to pay back the US government. If you didn't, don't you think the secessionists would have their own party in DC like the BQ has in Ottawa making noise about leaving?

I'd love to see what would happen if TX left the States. They seem to think they could keep the military, the space programs and not pay back all the money they borrowed from the US over the years. @MrJimjons Nasa isnt there own space program stupid. It's a U.S federal agency. if texas secedes, nasa is stripped away from the state and houston would have to turn in all federal equipment and the Saturn V rocket. Texas would collapse. Oil doesnt mean shit. Texas is suffuing so badly because it refuses government bills.

@RefreshChannel Oh I, understand that about Nasa being funded by the Us Fed Govt. You can take it with you and still Texas can do alot more in trade economically. No to lil Restriction's and it become's a trading mecca to the world. Yeah we do have the oil. The refineries to boot as well.
Way I, see it who need's Nasa anyway. Are Astronaut's will soon be catching ride's for a time on Russian capsule's to the international space station. Till we commercially develop a better way to get up there.

@donjuandonjuan No, that would just make you lazy. You are perfectly capable of contacting every school district in Texas (there's only 700+), and have the superintendents send checks back to D.C.. You also can just stop driving on the freeways. There's no need why we need to spend money to come and remove the roads that you don't want. Ya'll can do that yourselves. Afterwards, we'll give you back your greasy oil, and you can dump it in the Trinity River.

If people want to leave the union, then that is their choice. Its hippocritical to denounce any form of secession from the USA then line the streets calling for Tibetan independance, or applauding the secession of states from teh USSR. America was founded from secesion, not revolution technically. so whats wrong with Texas or any other state seceding?

It's time for people to stand up and realize that the federal government is an arm of the states and not the other way around.

If there were a civil war today Washington would implode w/in a month from it's own inefficiency, unwieldy beuracracy, and overall poor management. As I said before a good portion of the Army and Marines would not wage war on their home state. I have no doubt Texas would be better off. But would the U.S. be better off I seriously doubt it. For those of you living ouside Texas the Federal government has been a leach. Many good Texans have given their lives for our country. What have you done?

You Americans who want Texas to succeed will not likely get their wish. At least a good 15-20% of all the soldiers and marines I have served with are either from Texas or have ties to Texas. Texas also refines a great deal of U.S. oil. If you really want to see gas prices spike like you have never seen before let us go. You would also lose a great number of engineers, doctors and other medical personnel. Go ahead and wish us gone it's your loss don't let your jealousy obscure your objectivity.
