Without religion reading and writing wouldn't have been made mandatory, and thus making the majority of the world illiterate. obscure ancient languages wouldn't have been recorded. Cuneiform probably wouldn't have existed, which would have meant the lack of written language throughout most of the world. Yea.. Imagine a world without religion; beautiful.

I think it's ironic that without religion, we probably would've had no primary teachings about the world around us and that religious organisations were the first people to teach others about fundamental beliefs and education. I think we should abolish this way of teaching because we have moved past it and is no longer required as a society. Let the humanitarians do the teaching, not the preachy priests that "educate" and brainwash kids my age into thinking that the world was just suddenly so.
This theory is based on something not possible in our world. We as humans have imagination and will always try to explain what we do not understand. @TheIordKhon There is a lot of proof we have many species ancestors, look at fossil record and our similarities with orangutans and chimps, not just physically but our brain and DNA are also very similar. To believe otherwise is to be ignorant. Go to you library or a museum and study these things, I think you'll be fascinated, evolution is very interesting.
@TheIordKhon Not only is the DNA similar we can see it progress. Also fossil records prove evolution. We have made evolution happen. Look at the Russian Silver Fox. They were vicious wild animals but they kept breeding them in ways so they could get domesticated one's who even changed some physical things. Italian Wall Lizards were put on an island and evolved rapidly. They got a new gut structure, different jaw, harder bite, among other amazing things in a matter of decades. It is amazing.
@TheIordKhon Also, you seem to misunderstand evolution, blind nature didn't create us, species sometimes mutate, and if these mutations help it, they are kept in the gene pool, and so on. It is creatures adapting to the environment for the betterment of their species. This usually takes a very long time but we sometimes see rapid evolution in things like the Silver Fox and the Italian Wall Lizard. Also, we can watch bacteria mutate very quickly.
@TheIordKhon If you look at evolution, you will be very interested. This doesn't mean you need to stop believing in God, you can just see the amazing work that he is doing and has done. Evolution can be a way of God's creation. Then look at other scientific research done in the last century or two, like the Big Bang theory, the Strung theory, the Multiverse theory, and many others. Science has some amazing things, embrace them.

A world without religion would be a peaceful Utopia. Not completely peaceful, as there would still be war over greed, but the people would be more aware. The Crusades were said to be Wars of Religion, but in actuality that's what the soldiers fighting thought. It was actually just power. Think of how better the world would be if we weren't killing each other over something that we can't prove, or better yet, doesn't even exist.

I'm a theist, and I am not complaining. Without religion reading and writing wouldn't have been made mandatory, and thus making the majority of the world illiterate. obscure ancient languages wouldn't have been recorded. Cuneiform probably wouldn't have existed, which would have meant the lack of written language throughout most of the world. Yea.. Imagine a world without religion; beautiful.

He was a firm Catholic and as were almost all of his soldiers, and they viewed the people who the Bible hates as second class citizens. They also put Jehovah's witnesses in the concentration camps, because the saw them as spreading the word of God falsely. IT WAS A RELIGIOUS WAR, whether he said it was or not.

I think it's ironic that without religion, we probably would've had no primary teachings about the world around us and that religious organisations were the first people to teach others about fundamental beliefs and education. I think we should abolish this way of teaching because we have moved past it and is no longer required as a society. Let the humanitarians do the teaching, not the preachy priests that "educate" and brainwash kids my age into thinking that the world was just suddenly so.

@TheIordKhon Not only is the DNA similar we can see it progress. Also fossil records prove evolution. We have made evolution happen. Look at the Russian Silver Fox. They were vicious wild animals but they kept breeding them in ways so they could get domesticated one's who even changed some physical things. Italian Wall Lizards were put on an island and evolved rapidly. They got a new gut structure, different jaw, harder bite, among other amazing things in a matter of decades. It is amazing.

@TheIordKhon Also, you seem to misunderstand evolution, blind nature didn't create us, species sometimes mutate, and if these mutations help it, they are kept in the gene pool, and so on. It is creatures adapting to the environment for the betterment of their species. This usually takes a very long time but we sometimes see rapid evolution in things like the Silver Fox and the Italian Wall Lizard. Also, we can watch bacteria mutate very quickly.

@TheIordKhon If you look at evolution, you will be very interested. This doesn't mean you need to stop believing in God, you can just see the amazing work that he is doing and has done. Evolution can be a way of God's creation. Then look at other scientific research done in the last century or two, like the Big Bang theory, the Strung theory, the Multiverse theory, and many others. Science has some amazing things, embrace them.

@bobbywayne310 Second I know where the calender comes from. And it wasn't jesus. Caesar introduced the Julian Calendar, which became the Gregorian in 1582 when Pope Gregory XIII made changes. Mostly to the leap years so they didn't affect easter... again to keep it in line with the equinox. I'll ignore most f your other jibber jabber, except to say. Some people would still be crazy, and bad things would still happen, but at least the large scale organized reduces the problems.
Also, atheists have lower homicide rate and abortion rates than Christians. Norway is probably the most peaceful nation in the world- 80% atheist. The middle east and africa

@JellayToasT that's a cool story. why will we need it? we don't believe in your god. as richard dawkins once put it 'we're all atheists about most gods. some of us just go 1 god further'. do you believe in the gods of ancient greek mythology? see what i'm getting at? religious people always do 1 of 2 things: try to settle in a middle ground (which doesn't exist) or plug their fingers in their ears and ignore anything that might shake them out of their state of mind. reality isn't so bad.

religion gives all walks of life a sense of direction... a purpose for living, but somewhere along the way, it became a fierce competition. a 'survival of the fittest' mentality. that's why i'm here to shoot down any notions that a supreme entity exists for any walk of life. after all, there are serious flaws in the scriptures of all religions. seems subordinance takes precedence over all other prerequisites to join in the company of any god. it's bullshit!

Its interesting that Atheist moral framework derives itself from the Bible. Dawkins morality stems from the Bible. If he really did not base it on the Bible, it would be sadly degraded to a mere self-entitlement. @RegularSmith I have read the Bible many times. To take verses like this to declare then as the moral standing of the Bible is to take them out of context. Furthermore, the Old Testament reforms towards human rights were far ahead of their own era. The reason for what we have today is from what we get from the Bible. I suggest you check your history.

To believe in a lovely world as this video has proposed, is to believe in nothing more than an idealized fantasy; an, "its always better on the other side of the hill" philosophy. Atheists are not exempt from the world's atrocities.

@RegularSmith Finally, without religion, there isno meaning or purpose in life. Without meaning, there is no reason to live other than to pursue pleasure. Pleasure when it is fully exorcized leaves us in a hopeless state and disdain towards existence because, "there is nothing more than this". If this was the perceived reality, chaos would ensue, and society would degenerate into perpetual self-centeredness with no reason for any good or bad. Decides, the Bible defines and maintains morals.

I know any good human being would be unable to slaughter babies. So why do we justify a book which condones this? A world without God gives us purpose. This life is more precious because we die. We only have a small amount of time to experience everything we are going to experience.

If you look at almost any group taking over of a country, you will see things like this happen. I don't like it like you don't like it, but it was the reality of the time. Do you think the Israelites should have said, "can you please get off our land"? Then walk away sadly?

Are you saying that God once allowed people to be brutal, but changed his mind about what morals they should have? It was okay to kill and conquer, but now it isn't anymore? It was okay for God to order death and rape, but not for humans to? Is that what you're saying? Is that what your god is saying?

Funny how the narrator quotes John Lennon when he says "imagine a world without Religion". John Lennon also has a line in that song that says "imagine the world without possessions". Yet Lennon died a multi Millionare without homes all over the world including the one in Manhatten that Yoko still owns. I sense a world without religion is a world with little morals, without order, and without honor. People will still kill each other, commit suicide bombers, have political disputes, we'd probably be overpopulated to an EXTREME by this point in history, assuming we didn't kill each other off first.
I love how every fancy-pants liberal scientist (oh no a connection between politics and religion) thinks that no religion = world better. Keep in mind most advances in society is from religion & war

I'm atheist and I feel as tho religion is a good thing. Religion aspires peace and hope. However, the people whom are afflicted with religion and do really dumb things. Nowhere is any religion says that homosexuality is bad. And terrorism is not a religion. Its like saying.. "Religion don't kill people, people kill people."

@morgannicgregor Dahmer converted to Christianity in prison but used atheism as his justification for being a serial killer. He had no fear of God. Fritzl converted to Buddhism in prison but was clearly not a Christian. Where did you get that information from? Christianity condemns rape, incest, murder etc. If there is a God, humans are accountable for their crimes against humanity. No God = Survival of the fittest.

@JamesHolman1000 Yes. Hitler was obviously christian. Stalin started out christian, although most people think he became atheist, there is no proof for it. Dont know the other two. Atheists dont say they hate jews or muslims and then go on crusades and create genocide in the name of god. Atheists have no god to kill for. Therefore everything an atheist does is either logical or emotional, not evil religious fanatical.
