This is truly a teriffic episode! I would be amazed anyone would care enough to spank a kid not their own... The kind of tanning he got from Ben wasn't in anger - but rather - out of concern for Jamie, maybe even love. No one ever cared about me that much. On another note: I love the way Ben inserts himself between Jamie and Joe, then speaks very carefully and quietly to Jamie... keeps the situation from getting worse I should think, eh?
Its all about parenting i know a girl who use to smoke weed with her mom never whupped her now all she does is party live at home and not work and the mom wonders why her daughter doesn't respect her
Burns got spanked earlier on a Wagon Train episode 'The Nancy Styles Story'. The spanking was on screen and the whacks were real, ouch, prompting me to believe that when Burns signed up for Bonanza he made sure that the spanking was off screen. In the Wagon Train episode after Burns is spanked the very attractive Deborah Whaley is spanked though the scene is too damned short.
I just noticed something kinda comical: Burns suddenly got taller twice in this episode - once when Ben picked him up to threaten him with a "tanning", and once when Joe picked him up ti kill him! (of course Ben wouldn't let him do that). Just mentioning!!
I think it`s incredible how many of us "want" Adam, or Joe - even Hoss and Ben...but for all of that we seem to be willing to share! Maybe because we have no choice, eh? Since they`re all gone we can only dream! And you are eminently fair!! You are welcome to Joe! If I could figure out how to get near Adam - well - nevermind! You are so right about Ben though. I still wish he`d been my Father. I bet if he had been, I wouldn`t now be wishing someone else was!!!

The problem: even when people say you need it, (like when you have a tantrum a 10 yr old would enjoy) well, at this age no one will do it for real - so - I get away with a lot! Too stinkin' funny!! There are a lot of people who don't agree with spanking but when it's tempered with love it can work wonders. Ben spanking Jamie was not the end of something but rather a beginning. I believe Ben actually loved Jamie back to life. He instilled a sense of self-worth, appreciation for a job well done and accomplishment. Ben sure did a better job than Jamie's father did. I grew up wishing Ben had been my father. I didn't have one who cared about me. Thank you for this!
@jehukjehe I agree absolutely with what you say about spanking. As a little girl I was warned if I did something not acceptable and if it kept on happening I was spanked. Usually I didn't repeat the original offence after that!! As you say it was because my parents loved me and didn't want me to grow up into some kind of obnoxious brat that occasionally they had to resort to spanking. Thank Goodness they did!! :0) Thank you.
