5:59 ...Of course he isn't just gonna grate the parsnips normally! I bet he's gonna go figure out some clever way of making it easier... Yup! I love Alton Brown.
@RyuukiCho That, and I think Marsha got sick of him getting influenced by his uncle. Sending her unswayable clonespawn in his place is a much better solution.
Yep. That's Zoey. Now 9yrs old! Remember when she was just a toddler on the honey episode? I love watching each episode carefully to see if and when i can spot her, cuz she's been on lots of them over the years, but never been credited. I'm guessing for privacy reasons. Doesn't she look just like Alton though? :)
I was disapointed regarding the title of this episode. Not really a veggie, more of a taproot - not really veggIES, more like the singular. Bell peppers are sweet, so are onions if you treat them right, carrots get an honerable mention but he does nothing with them - what about zuccinni bread? I guess past episodes have delt with this, celery soda, sweet potato pie, roasted veggie cream cheese. I just thought he could have done more with the concept of sneaking veggies into food for kids.
Actually a vegetable is simply the edible portion any plant cultivated for food. The fact that it is a taproot doesn't mean that it isn't a vegetable. There is, in fact, no specific botanical or biological definition for the word "vegetable".
WRONG! A "fruit" is what a plant bears. The rest of that plant is a vegetable. Look at it like this; roots, stems and leaves are vegetables. That my friend is the scientific answer. Markets have them seperated NOT by fruits and vegetables, but by color and treatment they need to sustain a longer shelf live.
You, in fact, gave the same definition of the word vegetable that I did, so we agree on that. The only difference is that you say that it is the "scientific" answer. If that is actually the case I'd like to see what credible biology source you're quoting from, because I've certainly never seen a rigorous definition of the word.
Just so you know, dictionaries aren't a "scientific" source.
Hmm I think this one niece was already a family member. If you remember the doughnut episode Marsha was watching over little bunnies (girl scouts I think).
@TVextremist91 I really enjoyed this episode. I've seen parsnips in the grocery store and have seen them used in plenty of other food programs as a 'vegetable' ingredient but this episode encouraged me to actually go out and buy some! We'll see how they turn out after tonight's dinner!
HeeHee.. as far as you know. What none of us may know is she might get one heck of a BIG allowance! And heck, he really owes it to her after what he made her do for the Crawfish episode! (Even is those *were* fake mudbugs, heh.)
I just made these muffins... good god, they're wonderful.

Is that his daughter? It seems like she is, they act the same and look similar but she could be an actress.

Tricking the kid would be much tougher if he didn't have "undercover veggies" written on the fridge door (30 seconds into the clip).

I don't know why, but this episode wasn't all that great to me. It feels like Alton is trying too hard. I'm sure it's just an off day.

My mom never had to use any tactics w/ me. Just coat in in Ketchup and i'll eat nearly any veggies(except mustard greens YUCK)
Legofan4ever88 2 years ago
Mustard greens just need some smoked ham hock. Maybe some garlic. Some people like hot sauce when eating.
No more nephew? How many more 'relatives' will Alton create as the show continues?

Remember, before a cook, AB is a TV director/producer. and a daughter is much, much cheaper than an actor.
