  • Such a beautiful performance. I saw them live in Ragtime and it was a performance I will never forget.

  • Was this the production that had Lea Michele in it?

  • @ionadelfina Yes.

  • @ionadelfina Yes - Audra, Brian, and Lea were all in the 1998 original broadway production of Ragtime

  • For once GLEE made a perfect decision casting him. Say what u want about the show but its a perfect advertising strategy. After the show airs people research the guest stars. GLEE will aid an already amazing artist.

  • I was 10 when I saw them in Ragtime...now 23, it still remains one of the greatest joys of my life to have seen this show with these two, not to mention Marin Mazzie, Judy Kaye, Peter Freidman, Mark Jacoby, and Judy Kaye....it is probably one of the only productions I ever saw where I can remember every single moment of it so vividly and it made me want to become an actor in musical theatre. I plan to move to NYC this summer to begin my dream and it all began with Ragtime.

  • CAM WHINSTONNNNNN!!!!!

  • why can't i be audra? why? >.<

  • God please forgive those in the past who were blinded by satan's lies, and who treated African-Americans as though they were of less value than other races. Help us in the future to see the value and passion inside of all peoples, cultures, and nations. Help us to extend love and kindness to everyone reguardless of their heritage, background, or beliefs. Help us to follow the example of your Holy Son, Jesus, and to love everyone!

  • See for some who listens to this 100 times a day "G-OOOOOOOH YA KILLIN MEEEEEE!" Wastes the whole thing T_T

  • Everyone's comments standout! I especially love the "feelings of refinement" this brings to all of us. It does make us feel good about our talents in life, music, art, and each other!

  • Omg, just when you thought you couldn't love BSM more, this pops up on youtube D:

  • A perfect combination of excellent singing and acting

  • I have goosebumps all over. They are amazing. Nice to know this beautiful creation is brainchild of Jewish musicians :-)

  • I saw the original cast of this show when I was in high school. To this day, I still find this show to be spell binding. My favorite Broadway show. Hearing Brian Stoke's Mitchell sing, "Make Them Hear You" just brings a tear to my eye each time and takes my breathe away. I sent him an e-mail when I was in school, and was so excited when he wrote back to me. lol

  • I was fortunate to see them in "Ragtime" on Broadway. They are absolutely brilliant!

  • OMG what an AMAZING DUET!

  • i am singing this in choir. but these to actors are just amazing and very proffessional!

  • Wow. What more can really be said?

  • I was so fortunate to see them live on broadway in August 1998 in the original run of "Ragtime". Broadway performers don't come much better than Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell.

  • I love the end when they touch each other faces. So cute!

  • that deep baritone voice is so sick

  • i wanna know who the hell didnt like this >:(

  • Oh my, each time I hear this I am in awe of the greatness of these two performers! Thanks for posting this!

  • This is just so amazing!! These two are beautiful with magnificent voices! I completely adore this :)

  • I just posted on another video...THIS Rosie performance got me off my ass and straight to New York to see it. I had never left Dallas, never flown on a plane, never stayed ina hotel, never seen a show. I saw this cast in New York, then saw the touring company in Dallas a couple years later. Ragtime holds a very special place in my heart.

  • @rellenoz I totally feel the same way, and bought the cd after seeing that orginal production. Why it did not run longer, I will never know. It is one of the most brilliantly produced, scored, cast, and directed shows ever.

  • @goinxnginx I totally agree. I listen to the soundtrack regularly. It never was as popular as it should have been.

  • It withstands the test of time. .. Still the best!!

  • They were AAAA-mazing on stage!! This show is so under rated

  • I saw them on Broadway and they were both phenomenal

  • Solo's Melody Holloway who is originally known as Kerri Forrester and I sung dis at Mississippi Valley State University last year. We tore da roof off da sucker.

  • OMG!!! O.O... I was so lucky as to sing this for a choir concert... We didn't sing it nearly as well... But we were good.

  • I started crying about 45 seconds in and was a mess the entire time. So beautiful

  • I drove from Michigan to Toronto 7 times, 5 of them day trips, just to see this show with this original cast before it went to Broadway. The first few times it was still in working satges and some songs have changed. After the opening number the crowd cheered and clapped for so long, I've never seen a show that had this kind of response.

  • omfg amazing............ o my god so amazing

  • wow... i just got goosebumps

  • I had the wonderful opportunity of performing this song with him in chorus in college and he is an amazing performer, singer, and person! Brian Stokes Mitchell is just absolutely incredible!

  • I met him tonight it was amazing and he was so gracious.

  • have you ever had that feeling, where you just feel something go up and down your spine and a tingle all over your body? that is exactly how this song makes me feel every time i hear it.

  • This is ridiculous, BSM sounds better here that he does in a studio recording(if thats possible). He is an amazingly and unbelievably vocal talent.

  • I had a friend who saw McDonald and Mitchell sing this at a benefit concert before Obama got elected. To say it was electrifying would be an understatement

  • love them both. this song gets me every time. their voices are true gifts.

  • It takes me over the moon!!!!!

  • this is the true talent of america, too bad we worship lady gaga and Justin beiber too much to realize this

  • I had to pleasure of seeing this production at a very young age and it still affects me to this day. It has got to be the most powerful musical ever and this is my favorite duet ever.

  • BSM is SO YOUNG here!!!!

  • Everytime this business lets me down and I think "Why am I doing this to myself?" I simply watch this performance and remember. True artistry, these two will always hold a place in my heart. SO INSPIRING!

  • Nothing else can even come close to these two. Pure talent, THIS, right here is why i love broadway.

  • This is what the composer/lyricist dreamt when they created this song!!! Audra and Brian are both phenomenal!!! One of my favourite songs!

  • CAAM WINSTON

  • i remember seeing this aired!!! loooove

  • Wow

  • I would love to see a revival of this musica. Brian is amazing.

  • @mitbas you know there just was a revival right?

  • @bxkforu101, OMG how long ago? I did not know that. :-( I would have went.

  • @mitbas late 2009-2010! i really wanted to see it too. i live in ny. its just hard to see everything thats out.

  • The play and music was great. I was doing some work in a stairway at a theater in Los Angeles, Ca. Brian And Audra was rehearsing their parts at the top of the stairway and it was wonderful.

  • I want him to father my children.

  • @canadiantothebakon Well, it seems he fathered Rachel Berry!

  • Gives me goosebumps and brings me to "happy tears" every time I listen to it...

    It is absolute *perfection*.

  • got to see this cast when it was in previews in los angeles. these two were incredible! cannot get enough of brian stokes mitchell's voice!

  • oh my gasp! I saw this on b-way, this is my favorite play!!!

  • this in UNBELIEVABLE i have goosebumps

  • carrot

  • Comment removed

  • My two favorite singers of all time. Brilliant.

  • The Best

  • Two of the best..and to also have had Marin Mazzie and Judy Kaye in that cast...it was Broadway heaven....except the score got too bombastic and dull in the second half and killed the show. I saw the first NYperformance and to add to the thrill it was the opening of the renovated Hilton Theater. A joyous memory.

  • Sarah is my favorite character in Ragtime.

  • absolutely undoubtedly beautiful. beautiful is the word. always put me in tears. wanna watch this in person....... hope more ppl will get to appreciate this musical, would be such a waste to leave this piece in the bottom of the sea!

  • This is Broadway, people.

  • You just can't beat Brian Stokes Mitchell. His voice is just so deep and rich

  • I think sometimes that this is what musical angels sound like....just heavenly!

  • what a WONDERFUL singer...i absolutely love his voice

  • I'm almost yearning for an alto part in this it is so awesome!!!!

-Can't breathe it is so heartbreaking!!! I'm literally hyperventilating! Brian Stokes Mitchell...Gorgeous Gorgeous talented man! Audra Mcdonald...speechless

  • What play is this? I want to know what this amazing performance is.

  • @Garnetlover15 This is from the Original Broadway cast of "Ragtime", as seen on the Rosie O'Donnell Show. Broadway saw a revival of it just this last 2009 season. Although this smaller production garnered better reviews than the original, it closed after only two months. There are many clips from both B'way productions, as well as many regional productions. Check them out!

  • @Garnetlover15 Ragtime

  • Damn what a voice. He is unreal.

  • This makes me happy everytime I watch it. I love it. <3

  • This gave me goosebumps... multiple times! This is so amazing.

  • Goosebump city. So wow.

  • Two truly historic singers.

  • they are a perfect match for eachother!! i love this sooo much!!

  • God, this is absolutely gorgeous. I am so in love with Brian Stokes Mitchell's voice.. And Audra McDonald.. Well, that is the voice of an angel.

  • I'm seeing her this Monday!!! OH MY GOD, She's one of the best people on the planet ... not to mention Brian ... oh my ... :)

  • So gorgeous. I love this song, but every time I've seen it performed it seemed so rehearsed. This feels so authentic and driven by emotions. How I wish I'd seen this cast!

  • oH my!! Im in tears!!! I wish I saw this cast too!!!!

  • good song :D , i have to learn it but its really hard to pick up the tune :(

  • i was in the last row of the theater for the OBC and it was so fantastic . i had driven all day from michigan. awesome

  • 3:28 They both are AMAZING! When she sing Your Daddy's Son, i want to cry!

  • These two performers are absolutely breathtaking!

  • So many memories. It was such a treat when Rosie O'Donnell had these acts on her show.

  • She was great on her show for this kind of thing...before she went cuckoo.

  • They've both got really amazing voices. :D

  • That's fucking amazing dude. Seriously.

  • They are both truly amazing!

  • I love BSM's voice and Audra's. I own this CD and its really good. :)

  • I was lucky enough to see them on Broadway... a totally religious experience. Also met Mr. Mitchell after seeing him in 'Man of La Mancha", and he couldn't have been more lovely. Amazing talent on display here.

  • also saw the revival

and obviously it was amazing and i loved it. cause it's RAGTIME and it's amazing

BUT yeah. the original cast can NOT be matched hollllly CRAP

  • I saw a different cast back in May I believe and they were pretty freakin' amazing!

  • this is amazing...we're singing this song in choir, though the lyrics are changed slightly. This song gives me chills every time.

  • This is talent that cannot be matched. I saw the revival. It was good, but didn't even come close to this. 2 geniuses.

  • @moe4psu23 just saw the revival today! completely agree.

  • Holy SHAT. The talent is literally BEATING through the screen. He's ridiculously regal and gorgeous (besides talented) and she's just all power. I wish I saw this cast.

  • @stitchgrl777...I totally agree with you. I think that this is the only cast from this time of ragtime will be remembered. The talent is just peircing, and overwhelming. I also wish I was a part of this cast, and this song happens to be one of my favortie broadway musicals. The producers did a reallly damn good job in taking the time in picking out the characters with so much passion. This is really riviating.

  • FIERCE.

  • These two are the truth.

  • Brian Stokes Mitchell, I am in love with your ability to sing. Wow! I caught you on

TBN singing at the Crystal Cathedral. You sang from your new CD "Ring the Bells". I loved it. I love your voice, the facial expressions, the joy from which you pull from on high. I love it, and I loved the movie the "Prince of Egypt" and never knew until this weekend you are singing the part of Jethro. I love your voice. It is powerful and strong. I love it, I love it. I am rushing out to find your Xmas cd.

  • Brings tears 2 my eyes.

  • 3:27 beautiful

  • This is absolutely what America is about, from my point of view: everyone getting an opportunity to provide for their families, and having faith that their children will have an opportunity to succeed and live out their dreams when they've grown. It's tragic that we still so frequently fall short of these ideals, and it's so incredibly important that we regain an understanding that we are our brothers' keepers.

Anyway, incredible, profound, beautifully heart-rending performance. :)

  • i wish I head a fifth of talent these two have. they are crazy talented. This song always makes me cry. Thanks for sharing this.

  • *Listen* to that harmony at 3:16...

    Brilliant.

  • WOWZER. Not my cup of tea as music goes, but THAT'S what I call performing!!!!!

  • I was lucky to have seen Ragtime twice in Toronto with the original cast(Audra, Brian, Marrin and many others) and all I can say is: I was BLESSED to have seen this. Yes, they gave me goosebumps like this video.. PERFECTION!

  • Absolute *perfection*.

  • OMG 2:43. look at her eyes. wow. what power.

  • Of course I love Audra, her voice is so insanely beautiful, but the first minute of Brian singing had my in tears. He has such a beautiful voice.

  • Oh, and so excited that this is coming back to BROADWAY.. I would freak if they did it again!

  • This is coming back to broadway?????!!! I am so happy! LOL I missed seeing this the first time maybe because I was too young to appreciate it at the time Lol but if that's the case I'm soo buying tickets :D if only it would star these two !!! LOL :)

  • THIS SONG GETS ME EVERYTIME..

WOW! Thank GOD FOR OUR FREEDOM!!

  • As a piano accompaniment from musical theater would this be classed as being at the more difficult end of the scale? from a piano player in musical theater's point of view?

  • Parts of it are tricky.. but overall it's not that difficult.

  • I love they way both singers light up the stage and their acting is beautiful. I could listen to Brian all day. He sings This nearly was mine in South Pacific at Carnegy hall and it makes you just want to cry. He held that face through much standing ovation . He sang with the Tabernacle Choir on a Christmas show he immitations all the animals - I will truly want to watch him sing there again.l listen to he and Audra almost every day.

  • A singer as wonderful as Audra McDonald deserves co stars as good as this young man. What a pair!

  • Ragtime is an incredible show, and these two really do it justice, i love them

  • I love this video. Brian is a beautiful singer and I didn't realize until lately that Audra is on the Private Practice. It is a shame to hide that beautiful voice. I hope she does more singing on Broadway. They work well together. Anything Brian does is good. Joan

  • audra has won four tony awards. already.

  • I remember this musical came out when I was in high school, and I loved the Tony performance. A friend loaned me her recording, and as soon as BSM sang "Sarah, come down to me!" in New Music, I was completely hooked on him. He's beautiful, and so is Audra.

  • this just made me cry. Thanks for posting this

  • I love to see this almost every night. Brian's voice is so dynamic and he sings with such feeling. I listened to him sing "this nearly was mine" at carnegie hall. What an absolutely wonderful performance. He is truly wonderful. Joan

  • It's at this point, I would normally crack a joke about how their son would ride on the Wheels of an Impossible Dream, in reference to Brian Stokes Mithcell's amazing turn of Don Quixote.

  • he is so freaking amazing and talented

  • Yes, he is very very freaking amazing and talented. See his South Pacific clips on YouTube with Reba McEntire. "SOME ENCHANTED EVENING" (Reprise) in HD

  • Fantastic!

  • i am so excited that this is coming back 2 broadway

  • oh my god, I know!!! When I heard about it I got so excited, I can't wait to get my tickets!!

  • What tv show did they sing this on? It's not identified.

  • The Rosie O'Donnell Show.

  • just so amazing.

  • Incredible!!!

  • Ugh, he is so beautiful it's not even funny.

    And Audra's just amazing.

  • Ugh! Take me now! Either one! Please....I love you!

  • My GOD I LOVE HIS VOICE!!!!!!!

    *SWOON*!!!!

  • they are incredible, my dance school is doing this song from Ragtime and I'm like honored to be doing it, its so beautiful !

  • Pretty sure Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell need to have beautiful brown babies with INCREDIBLE singing voices.

  • lol

  • It is physically impossible for me to hear this song without tearing up.

  • I didn't think I would cry... but I did! wow!!!!

  • i friggin love this show.... omgggg it's my goal in life to one day be involved in it.

  • They're soo young!

  • Man sit and listen to this and the ONLY word that comes to mind is HOPE for us all.

  • holyness that was amazing.

  • Hey this is the Rosie O'Donnel show. She had a tribute to the Tony's when she hosted the m a while ago. I have it recorded.

  • wow he really can sing he sang through heavens eyes in the prince of egypt. he's amazing

  • Absolute *perfection*....

This tears me up everytime I watch it.

  • god they're amazing

  • Thank you so much for posting this! This song always moves me to tears and I've heard it hundreds of times, but seeing them preform it brought it to a whole new level.

What I would give to have been able to see them on Broadway.

  • They are both so young here. I saw the musical on Broadway twice, unfortunately it was not with them. But, we forever have them recorded on the CD. Beautiful performance. Amazing performers.

  • I love them both! Can you get any greater than this?

  • WOW!!!

  • Great voices. The brightest stars on the stage.

  • I cry every time I see this. They are both so amazingly talented!

  • I have this on a tape recording. It was the Rosie O'Donnell show along with Ragtime, the Sun will rise, wilkomen, Love me as I am, a rent spoof, and Ship of dreams. this is my favorite.

  • I'm in love with them both

  • Ahaha, me too.

  • Doesn't get much better than this, folks...

Audra and Brian's voice soar to that heavenly place we all long for...

    Pure magic.

  • Brian stuns me with his voice every time I hear him. He is amazing.

  • they are both simply stunning

  • I love this !!!!

  • Audra is incredibly talented and is WAY to good to be on the crap-fest Private Practice.

  • While I don't quite share your sentiment of Private practice, I think the main reason she is doing it is to largen her fan base which she is doing. Nobody but the theatre world new of her before and being in relationship with Taye Diggs she has lined up more opportunities

  • She may also like the role. She is an actress, after all. Not everything an actor does, necessarily, has an ulterior motive. Also, being on an ongoing tv series is one of the best (and steadiest) gigs an actor can have. It's very comforting to have that kind of security.

  • Sorry, If I offended you I was trying to not blast sticky for a small minded comment. I love Audra and would watch her sing on the steps of Sesame street every week...

  • Haha! I'll join ya on Sesame Street! :) Don't worry, you didn't offend me. I was just trying to give a more realistic reason why actors tend to be drawn to serialized tv, like Private Practice. I'm an actress, so I sometimes jump a little too fast to correct people on their assumptions (i.e. that all actors just want to be famous etc) Sorry about that! I wasn't really upset, it just kinda came out that way.

P.S. I love Audra too! :D (And the amazing Brian Stokes Mitchell!)

  • I too, am an actor and to many Audra is famous, but you don't think Audra is trying to expand her base because as it stands people write plays on broadway for her, anyone who sees her in something loves her and I TRULY was thinking maybe her publicist is trying to spread around the Audra, not a diss on her in any way. Do you think people diss serialized tv just because, I wouldn't turn down a guest appearance because I don't think show is that bad...

  • Both Brian and Audra have done television series. Why not? Steady work is steady work.
