Neil at his expressive best. rock and roll hall of "shame", why did you take so long? you accepted so many marginal talents before Neil; And made this fabulous performer wait decades. Shame on you.
Hot August Night, was recorded over a 2 day period when Neil was playing the Greek Theater in LA. I was there. It was hotter than hell and humid. The Greek is tucked away in the Los Feliz area of the LA Hills above downtown, if you're not familiar with LA. The Concert was performed in "Quadrophonic Sound." Basically, Stereo Times Two. There were speakers in all of the trees surrounding the audience. The chimes you hear on this cut cascaded from the top row sides to the stage. Brilliant.
when you say you "think" you were there... it's not exactly something you would forget!
Sadly I was not - but his first ever concert in Ireland I remember every moment of that day from dawn to dusk - it was June 1984, Croke Park stadium in Dublin, the stage a faithful replica of the Greek Theatre. I think I was there!
I absolutely love this song, it's very true to life- and yes i liked it befor i ever watched pulp fiction..... nobody does it better than neil diamond x

I havent looked to see any negative comments but if there are any they are well worth ignoring, they come from ignorance. Great song from a great singer of songs.
Pulp fiction is undoubtedly one of the best movies ever made, but I don't believe Urge Overkill's version carries the raw emotion that oozes out of Neil's original studio track, or this version here.
@peterk5699 no dumbass... that is Neil Young because of the song Southern Man. The Internet is great 'cept for all the misinformation. Do your research, buddy.
@glebber Just out of interest who's version do you prefer? Neil's or the Urge Overkill cover used in Pulp Fiction? By the way Pulp fiction is probably the best film ever made. Well that's my opinion anyway.
grifiki you mug! i'm pretty sure everyone here is laughing at you. This is Neil's song and Cliff covered it (badly) Just look at the amazing songs Neil has wrote and performed over the years. Cliff is a laughing stock in Britain and quite righty so. Neil is produced by Rick Rubin at the moment. Do you think a producer like that would go anywhere near Cliff?! erm no i don't think so! Such a simple rhythm arrangement but yet such a powerful song......only Neil can do that. It was good to see him on the Plaza for the TODAY SHOW a few months back ....hope he returns. I played this song for my wedding.
The song is good, so I'm not surprised to see a famous singer like Neil Diamond pulled off an awesome performance of this song. But it did surprise to see somebody sing with such little spoils of modern technology while still made it sound as if his voice were professionally edited in an sound room

This song is still mind blowing to this day.
Urge Overkill did a great rendition of it, but without the original it would not have happened and I KNOW that they would want everyone to discover the original and probably even appreciate it more.
Next youll be debating me on whether the original of Stevie Wonders song (by the way he wrote it) "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" is less appealing than Liza Minellis cover.
Girl, Youll Be a Woman Soon" is a song written by Neil Diamond in 1967 and performed acoustically by this icon.
Urge Overkills version is younger and fresher however the master musician, composer, writer and singers original version is hauntingly beautiful and captivating. To say Neils is less appealing only reiterates this point: Even a moron (such as you) is entitled to their own opinion.
