  • And only you would know…Neil! xoThank-You they are very soft…

  • I like bare bones…Thanks for posting... Somewhere I still have an original LP and tape…xo

  • One of his best songs. The next to it would be, Solitary man. Man, the guy is a genius when it comes to writing and then performing the song.

  • @MarijkaShi Yes it is.

  • @McFudge93 .... Best Fiction :)

  • Excellent recording! & Thanks for sharing!

  • Neil at his expressive best. rock and roll hall of "shame", why did you take so long? you accepted so many marginal talents before Neil; And made this fabulous performer wait decades. Shame on you.

  • Hot August Night, was recorded over a 2 day period when Neil was playing the Greek Theater in LA. I was there. It was hotter than hell and humid. The Greek is tucked away in the Los Feliz area of the LA Hills above downtown, if you're not familiar with LA. The Concert was performed in "Quadrophonic Sound." Basically, Stereo Times Two. There were speakers in all of the trees surrounding the audience. The chimes you hear on this cut cascaded from the top row sides to the stage. Brilliant.

  • @allegradrums Yes, I think I was there on that Hot August Night, How can you describe except...One of those magic moments in life!

  • @Kathyscv

when you say you "think" you were there... it's not exactly something you would forget!

Sadly I was not - but his first ever concert in Ireland I remember every moment of that day from dawn to dusk - it was June 1984, Croke Park stadium in Dublin, the stage a faithful replica of the Greek Theatre. I think I was there!

  • great song

  • and all this time I ignorantly thought that Urge Overkill wrote this tune

  • Such a beautiful song, every time I listen to it I get tingles,

  • Awesome! I've always been a ND fan but I recently brought out my CDs after his nomination to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What an amazing artist. It has been a joy to reconnect with this music and to see excellent performances like this. He should have been in the RRHOF YEARS ago!! He ranks right up there with Elvis Presley and the Beatles.

  • @Whipple236 True that...great artist and performer.

  • great song

  • pure artistry... unfortunately pretty rare these days...

  • I love this song and adore this man...Love this version much better then Urge Overkill, I do believe he is the original, correct me if im wrong...thank you for allowing folks to hear the original from an original...;o)

  • thaks man this things always should be alive

  • You don't know how greatful I am to you for putting this up, this is the version that is played in Misfits, I have trawled through all of them and this is the right one thankyou.

  • best version teary eyed ;(

  • Love is so much, can't count all ways i'd die for you girl and all they can say is, "he's not your kind".

  • Gorgeous xx

  • this version was on Misfits !

  • so gorgeous............

  • I've been looking for this version of the song everywhere! thanks for posting it up. I think this is my favorite version of Neil Diamond's "Girl You'll Be a Woman Soon."

  • just shut the fuck up & embrace the music!

  • @Countercon - that's a ridiculous comment. You Tube is all about posting video clips and commenting on them. Springsteen fans do it, Bob Dylan fans do it... and so do ND fans. What's sappy about that?

  • Comment removed

  • ND fans are amongst the sappiest I can think of. How can people spend all day talking on message boards about things one person does, over, and over and over and over and over? What a completely boring lot.

You all overanalyze things to death. And ra9975, genius is spelled genius..

  • I like it

  • beautiful........

  • genious!

  • classic, thank you ND

  • I havent looked to see any negative comments but if there are any they are well worth ignoring, they come from ignorance. Great song from a great singer of songs.

  • beautiful x

  • Iit's true ...simply beautiful !

  • Pulp fiction is undoubtedly one of the best movies ever made, but I don't believe Urge Overkill's version carries the raw emotion that oozes out of Neil's original studio track, or this version here.

  • It doesn't get better than this.

  • wow.

  • the best version

  • One my favorite Neil Diamond songs. I wish we had his first Hot August Nights concert. He is the best!!!

  • the evil and good come together. darck crystal

  • This performance is phenomenal.

  • this is 100% better than one from Pulp Fiction...love it!

  • for Seven,

you have come into your own ...

yes I can see that , and this is a most wonderful happening ~ M >;-)~

  • The video please!

  • I believe it was this man that Sweet Home Alabama was written about...

  • @peterk5699 no dumbass... that is Neil Young because of the song Southern Man. The Internet is great 'cept for all the misinformation. Do your research, buddy.

  • @orto2437 Well I apologise for making a slight mistake. Get off your high horse, it won't do you any good staying up there.

  • @peterk5699 "slight mistake"? Mixing up Neil Young with Neil Diamond is just ignorance.

  • @orto2437

Get over it and move on, we all get people's names mixed up at times.

Btw, Neil Young and Neil Diamond are both great.

  • @peterk5699

Don't worry about them, something obviously crapped in their coffee that morning to make them so grouchy ;-)

  • BEAUTIFUL!!

  • one of my fav oldies track

  • zajebisty kawałek !!! british bitches!!

  • cliff takes it up the chocolate starfish

  • i like the newer version.lol it had a good bass line.this one is the bomb though...

  • pulp ficton bicthes

  • the best song;i love it;))

  • Can someone please tell me what cliff who means

  • Cliff Richard did a cover of the song and runied it epicly

  • @123annaohplease Search "cliff richard" and have a listen (and laugh) at his songs.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!! :)

  • So simple but yet so beautiful...

  • @tribehenry The simplest things in life are the most beautiful. I love you for liking this song. No homo.

  • i love this song due to it being in Pulp Fiction.

  • @glebber Just out of interest who's version do you prefer? Neil's or the Urge Overkill cover used in Pulp Fiction? By the way Pulp fiction is probably the best film ever made. Well that's my opinion anyway.

  • @glebber I love Pulp Fiction because of these songs !

  • @glebber

There are much better reasons to love this song - after all it was around long before someone put it in some movie !

    kb

  • Neil is a LEGEND, Cliff who ?

  • Ther are some spells in the history of music that won´t be broken.

  • There will always be the one and only Neil Diamond. I grew up with his music, and I'll love him forever!

  • grifiki you mug! i'm pretty sure everyone here is laughing at you. This is Neil's song and Cliff covered it (badly) Just look at the amazing songs Neil has wrote and performed over the years. Cliff is a laughing stock in Britain and quite righty so. Neil is produced by Rick Rubin at the moment. Do you think a producer like that would go anywhere near Cliff?! erm no i don't think so! I genuinely feel sorry for people like you who know nothing about music and come out with such ignorant coments.

  • The touble is with You Tube. When there is something better than they have, they pretend it never happened.

  • He is 69yrs old. He has had more hit's than Neil Diamond couyld ever dream of.

Cliff Richards at this moment is touring Britain, and there are sell outs on tickets.

  • Crap! Conpared wit Cliff Richards version!!

  • Cliff WHO ?

  • saw it on "Misfits" it's crackin'

  • @Killer0770 lol me too thats why i searched it on here

  • ou yeah... nice song... really nice song...

  • Such a simple rhythm arrangement but yet such a powerful song......only Neil can do that. It was good to see him on the Plaza for the TODAY SHOW a few months back ....hope he returns. I played this song for my wedding.

  • I always liked this version. Much slower than the original studio recording. Thanks.

  • preacher i think you just may worry me.

     Fantastic song--thanks for posting it.

  • Warm Monsoon, lol

  • ew...i know what ya mean.. i can remember hearing this and getting the creeps.

  • Amazing song

  • OMG, this version always takes my breath away... Just love it. Thank you for posting!

    HHW

  • Wonderful song...

  • Neil has THE most wonderful voice and this is one of my fave trax, but does anyone think he is singing warm monsoon??

  • thanks neil

  • when

  • i think the both versions are good :)!!!!

  • Simply beautiful. Thank you.

  • na het kijken van pulp Fiction verslaafd aan dit nummer

Begin op mijn ma te lijken hahaha

  • Simply beautiful. All the negative comments are bullshit...this is simply beautiful

  • Agreed! :-D

  • agreed

  • sheer beauty

  • The song is good, so I'm not surprised to see a famous singer like Neil Diamond pulled off an awesome performance of this song. But it did surprise to see somebody sing with such little spoils of modern technology while still made it sound as if his voice were professionally edited in an sound room

  • Since he wrote the song , it makes sense he pulled it off ,but you know this is not the original.

He recorded several versions and this is not the best one.

I think the post says it was digitally remastered.

  • que declaraciópn de amor!!! el resto la hacemos los inspirados en tus letras Maestro"!!

  • best sing ever made

  • The original songwriter singing this hauntingly beautiful song of his-excellent !!

  • beautiful...means so much to me personally

  • anybody know the guitar chords for this exact version?

  • If you like this, try Neil's version of "I Dreamed A Dream". Check out the change of lyrics. Video link posted above. Enjoy!

  • The great thing about You Tube is being able to find all kinds of treasures.

The really awful thing about it is when you are subjected to reading comments ,and it is impossible not to.

This song is still mind blowing to this day.

Urge Overkill did a great rendition of it, but without the original it would not have happened and I KNOW that they would want everyone to discover the original and probably even appreciate it more.

  • Next youll be debating me on whether the original of Stevie Wonders song (by the way he wrote it) "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" is less appealing than Liza Minellis cover.

  • Girl, Youll Be a Woman Soon" is a song written by Neil Diamond in 1967 and performed acoustically by this icon.

Urge Overkills version is younger and fresher however the master musician, composer, writer and singers original version is hauntingly beautiful and captivating. To say Neils is less appealing only reiterates this point: Even a moron (such as you) is entitled to their own opinion.

  • Hollowpoint huh.

    More like shallow point.

  • Urge overkill version is better

  • ive always loved this sooong ^^

  • fantástico Neil

  • Comment removed

  • epic

  • i prefer some of his other songs like crunchy granla or you got to me but this is good

  • When I was a kid I thought he was saying "Girl you'll be a war monsoon".

  • It was from Pulp Fiction

  • This song was much earlier than the movie pulp fiction. In the movie you hear urge overkill

  • Yes I know that urge overkill sang the song for Pulp Fiction, I'm just saying that this song was in Pulp Fiction. OKAY then

  • reminds me of my daughter whos growing up at the moment

  • I listened to this concert over and over as a kid , is there a video available of the concert?

  • I've heard and seen Neil do this song many times. No version is better then this. He was recently here in Phila and I had to go. He is still the man !

  • to sing an slow song involving minimal instrument requires exceptional voice quality. Very few people can pull it off. Neil Diamond is one of them.

  • What an awesome version, I love it. Neil Diamond is so over-rated that he's under-rated if you know what I mean. It's cool that Mr. Rubin saw that, but with Neil Diamond Parking Lot, I still dont think people will really get that he wasn't just a novelty song-writer.

  • Actually, I'm allowed my opinion, and I dont think he is.

    And I'm not a 'dumb-ass', but you're certainly an ass-hole.

  • By the way, my comment is directed towards user "denveraspen" who feels the need to be watching a Neil Diamond video yet telling me I'm an idiot for saying that I enjoy Neil as a songwriter. I checked out your videos buddy and I dont think you have room to comment on Neil being 'novelty'.

  • You are allowed your opinion. Thanks for sharing sweetheart.

  • Great beautiful Song by Neil! - to anybody who knows the music of Nick Cave, he must have heard this era of Neil Diamonds'- think it influenced his singing - can really hear it, can't be a coincidence.

  • I "grew up" with Neil Diamond; we are the same age. He is the greatest of the great - he sings to and touches my life.

  • I do not have WORDS to describe this singer....But what a UNIQUE voice...

Can never forget Neil Diamond. Yeah he is a real DIAMOND.
