It's his money and his tank. If he wants to listen to the LFS staff or just buy on reflex let him. Keeping saltwater fish in general is animal cruelty as most of them are captured straight out of the wild. I'm pretty sure it's called a "hobby" for a reason, hypocrite.
@xDetroitMetalx Responsible reef keeping isn't cruelty. IN the wild fish have to find their own food and terrritory. a good tank provides that for them.
@lazarolechon1, how is this example responsible? I get what you're saying but I've also never been fond of how these fish are gathered. Although I'm hobbyist a myself with a very small tank and a small collection.
@xDetroitMetalx This tank is anything BUT responsible....I know some of the fish are gathered with toxics. Even when i got a small ocellaris while i still had a big t. perc and when they started fighting i was able to get them to calm down. THis guy's an idiot putting that fish straight in.
Holy crap!! I forgot how many pretentious know it all ass holes there are on the internet. Its his tank he gets to do what he wants. Guess what! You have to deal with it. Go use your time doing something useful instead of flaming people trying to get in the hobby.
@1969LEO1969 "trying" to get into the hobby isn't done by throwing a semi-costly fish into a tank full of aggressive tank mates. Get some facts before blindly failing at trolling people. Idiot.
maybe turn the light of you know? maybe not be a divy and don't tap on the glass? you know leave the fish to settle without seeing ur face? maybe read some knda book on how not be an arse to your fish you know maybe or not whatever your choice?
you are suposed to scoop the fish out with a net and you do not put the water that wass in the bag back into your aquarium.
most of the time when you buy a fish from a store, they usually treat there tanks with coper so by puting there water in your tank, you are risking introducing coper witch will kill all your corals, and all so the fish could have introduced some parasites and diseases in the bag witch you might introduce into your tank
i know my lfs doesnt use cooper at all cause they keep frags of corals and whole corals in almost all of there display tanks and the whole wall is on the same filter system and they do water changes frequently
I agree. I always shutoff the lights when I release any new fish into my tank. Its a trick that works well everytime. I turn on a very strong powerhead to sorta "tire" out the tanks inhabitants & cause them to seek refuge too prior to releasing new fish. When its completely dark it levels the playing field so that none of the older fish have an upper hand & none of them can get the drop on the new guy. Its an absolute must especially when you have a predator tank, or aggressive inmates.
@watmonki, I always knew to turn of the light but putting on a strong power head is a interesting idea! And you say it wears out the other tank inhabitants, thats another good way to prevent some fighting.
I been told that redecorating the tank is also a good trick, as to redefine territories. But being a living reef and all, Ive never fancied the idea of changing my landscaping lol. We all know how we struggled time after time to get "just right" & I sure dont wanna redo my live rock structuring. =)
Classic example of not researching before purchasing. Hopefully that poor fish didnt die immediately. Furthermore what is the deal with getting all up in the fish's faces and tapping the glass especially right after introducing a fish? lack of responsible reef keeping.
nice clarki! lol mine is tiny comparred only just got him .. chek my vid to see size difference lol ! its called new clarki hope ur tank is going strong btw
hey, can you private message me how to acclimate and release clownfish into a tank. I have a 20 gallon and I want to be sure I do it the right way and to not stress them out to much
Not the best home for a jawfish, but not everyone loves them enough to give them at least 4" of sand bed. I do, and I will be getting a Blue Spot jawfish next month.
hey flme. you dnt nead 4 inch of sand if the jawfish has got a burrow! durr ur just trying to rip on his tank probbably from jelousy ! as long as it has a burrow in which to retreat it will be fine ENDOF!
And how many jawfish have you successfully raised? Fish have requirements to be happy and comfortable. Fish will also live in a bowl as well with no heater, but eventually they will die of stress. Jawfish need a DSB or they eventually become stressed and if there is no sand (not fine sand either) they cannot construct a proper burrow. My pearly likes to place debris to close up her burrow at night, I don't see any of that here. It will live but how comfortably? Read and inform yourself.
lmfao !! iv been in the bisuness for around 7 years now!! so alot my friend .. iv worked for several fish stores and we deal with jaw fish all the time ... half the time only givving them a piece of piping they can hide in they never get stressed ... if u dnt believe my claims then ill post a vid of my main tank .. then u will eat ur words.
You can eat your stressed out jawfish when it dies. Business men can usually spell somewhat properly. I hope you keep fish better then you can spell. If only fish had a voice...
god get a life it was like 2 am over here when i typed it .. i know i spelt it wrong .. but i cba to correct .. oh by the way cba isnt a spelling mistake its short for summit, grow a brain then get a life havnt got time for silly kids.
noooo clown! lol
Just wondering, is your tank covered? If the rest of his tank mates harass him that much still, I'd highly suggest it.

Didnt even turn of the lights, that might have prevented some fighting, and reduced stress on the fish.
