HAHAH Judeo christian tradition!?!? THe tradition of Christmas was torturing Jews, forcing them to run naked through the streets of rome as catholics pelted them with rocks and raped the Jewish Women all as Pope Paul II cheered from his golden balcony! And this that was just a rip off of the Pagan holiday Saturnaria which involved running naked singing through the streets "caroling", murdering innocent scapegoated citizens, and forcing those scapegoats to give up their posessions (gift giving)!
I noticed the war on Christmas in 1992. What took Bill so long to notice it? MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!! if you don't like it, GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!
@clevelandphil And a Merry Saturnaria to you! Your holiday is complete bullshit kid. If you were a real Christian you would stay away from this drunken Pagan Rapefest!
I'm not pissed when people say "Merry Christmas" to me, I just say "And may the blood from lamb's flesh run thick and frothy in your hall this night."
Bill, how they heck can you be offended when someone is wishing you to have a happy holiday! It's just a greeting! They might not happen to be Christian. I'm jewish, and like most sane americans, gentile or not, "merry christmas" and "happy holidays" are the damn same thing!
The problem with his labeling the war on Christmas as fascism is that the fascists and Nationalist of the WW II era were very much pro Christian and had elaborate ceremonies that were Christian in nature. Also the history of Nationalism during that era has been greatly distorted as to what factually happened by today's news and entertainment industries. He is right though that the war on Christmas is anti Christian and anti western civilization.

Of course Christmas has pagan aspects. That's not the point. The point is that the Christian aspects of the celebration are being removed, leaving only paganism and commercialism. The only legitimate reason for the celebration is being removed.
Funny thing about this "war on christmas" is that if I said "Happy Ramadan" to one of the people that thinks there is actually a war on Christmas they would look at me with a cut eye and think the religion is phony. For whatever reason when somebody does not totally accept a christian holiday there is suddenty a war or some form of persecution being done to the people who cause the most wars and persecute upon others.
Jesus is the reason for the season, as a Christian it offends me to hear Happy Holiday, because you are not remembering the name of the person for which the holiday was made, Christ our Lord and Savior
Bill O'Reilly is a catholic and Catholicism never has been and never will be Christian. So, his talk on christmas is an opinion, not based on faith or Scriputure and much like the teachings of the Catholic church which is man-made. Never, never, never listen to Bill O'Reilly when you want to know something about Christian truth.
@commcowboy : "...Catholicism never has been and never will be Christian."
Exhibit A why religious zealots scare the hell out of me. Reality is discarded if it conflicts with some arbitrary belief; you can't reason with people like that. Commcowboy's statement really couldn't be more untrue. It's just like saying "water never has been and never will be wet." When you start your argument with a statement that is so verifyable false, why on earth should we accept anything else you have to say?
@commcowboy Catholicism was the founding Christian religion. Your Protestant revisionist religion wasn't invented until the 16th century. Take your head out of your ass.
I'm swedish and our word for christmas isn't related to religion at all. We use the word "Jul", which is equivalent to "Yule". Why not just call it "Yule" instead of christmas? Problem solved!
i will say merry christmas if i want but i dont expect everyone else to. have you heard of the grinch lol whatever people just need to be in conflict why i dont know but get over yourself people not everyone belives as you do
@BoredomCorner It actually had crossed my mind. Then I realized that idea was total crap. You may be stupid enough to believe it but that doesn't make it so. Especially when the phrase "happy holidays and happy new year" is becoming increasingly ubiquitous. I find the idea that wishing somebody a Merry Christmas is offensive a sign that society is going down the crapper.
Phony controversy invented by Bill. Incidentally, Christmas WAS illegal in colonial America--the Pilgrims despised the holiday and fined anyone openly celebrating it.
Billo- you say that non-celebrators don't mind hearing "merry christmas" but christians are "absolutely" offended by hearing "happy holidays".

@wonderinggrizzly that's not very christian of you! shunning others because they don't do as you demand! that sounds like intolerance at its best!!

grizzly, you're obviously a perfect example of folks who call themselves christian but are apparently clueless as to what that means...maybe ya better read up on old jesus and his teachings, because by reading your comments, i don't think he's walkin' with ya, hoss. you, and people like you, are creating the backlash against so called "christians" in America with your name calling and outdated conservative agendas. just like neanderthal man, he who cannot cope with change shall die out. amen
I generally side with O'reilly on this in principle but he makes himself look foolish and ethnocentric when he calls it a "War on Christmas" (though he is correct in that Christmas is usually singled out) In reality, its a war on Christmas, Hanukkah, Dawali and any other holiday cultural celebration. This is not rocket science: lets embrace all cultural traditions not suppress them. In this effort for political correctness, both minority religions and the majority religion are being shunned.
I for one view FOXNEWS as the propaganda wing of the GOP. However, "Seasons Greetings and Happy Holidays" has been created to sanitize Christmas. This is part of a long process by another religious group in its efforts to deal with being "overwhelmed" by the Christmas holiday and retaining their own identity. Suddenly a minor religious festival, Hannukah, was promoted as equal to the birth of Christ. This affront against Christians is demeaning, disrespectful and diminishing. Shalom.
but christmas never was a christian celebration. it was adapted from various pagan holidays and celebrations mainly european pagan solstice celebrations and possibly an adaption of the roman holiday celebrating sol invictus.
christmas is just a sanitized verison of those earlier celebrations and there is no basis for it being this time of year etc etc i say its not that important dont worry about it.
@mytimetravellingdog . Islam, Christianity and Judiasm are all based upon Babylonian religion. Each adapted additional customs as they evolved. Christianity's philosophical intent to serve the good and act upon that calling in a rational way is based upon Neoplatonism/stocism. Relatively speaking the attempts over the past 100 years to sanitize/diminish Christmas are more tribal in their intent. Merry Christmas. Shalom. Pax.
So its insane for non christians to be offended by ppl saying merry christmas, but its not insane for christians to be offended by nonchristians saying happy holidays instead of merry christmas? hold on a minute... is it just me or did anyone else pick up on that?
I have no problem with people saying "Merry Christmas" but I will never say it to someone I come across unless I know they're christian. I do want christians to have a merry christmas, but I recognize it's not christmas to everyone so I'll say "Happy Holidays" by default. From a marketing stand point it make sense to say "Happy Holidays" because as the priest said they risk alienating people.
I'm a Christian Zionist and I believe Xmas is nothing but pagan idolatry and should be abolished. But I'm also against gay marriage and druglust, so that makes me enemies with both sides of this conflict. O'Really is a hypocrite. He's a "conservative" but he partakes of manmade fettery indulgence (most traditions are exactly that). Being a conservative myself, rather than being offended by his hypocrisy, I can only cackle maniacally. There is no pity in my black heart. XD
Why would you be offended by a holiday about going to the store, buying a gift, give said gift to someone you love, and a big dinner at the end.
Now the problem is, as much as "Merry Christmas" should stay, i also believe it shouldn't be confused with a RELIGIOUS holiday. Religion + government = No ty
I apologize for wanting to wish everyone a Merry/Happy Christmas, Yule, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, or whatever holiday they celebrate, without having to say all that?
I just don't get it, Bill seems to think that ONLY Christians have an important holiday this time of year. :/
I am Christian and I care less if I hear seasons greetings or happy holidays. I am NOT offended by those types of greetings. I am irritated that BillO Reilly insists that all Christians are so HOLLOW that we all are offended by such phrases. I mean really, Holiday seasons ARE NOT about SHOPPING either. It is about family and Jesus birth. He is making offense where there is none. Jesus was the ULTIMATE leader of tolerance! EXCEPT for hypocrites like Bill O Reilly. He can't say ANYTHING positive
So, how EXACTLY do the Christian Righties want it for the USA?
Option A: Embrace the public celebration of Christmas, with all of its implications as a "celebration of the birth of Christ" with all cultural and legal force? Or;
B. A return to the "Christian America of the Puritan Founders"-who regarded the celebration of Christmas as Papist pagentry? (It wasn't celebrated until the arrival of German immigrants en mass in the 1800's)
"You don't stop saying "Merry Christmas because somebody is offended. That's fascism."
"The business community says, "We don't want to offend anybody, so we're not going to say "merry Christmas", we're going to say "happy Holidays"." That offends millions of Christians!"
So, as long as Christians aren't offended, nobody else matters. Way to be a great person, Mr. O'Reilly.
I could care less if stores say Merry Christmas. STORES have absolutely NOTHING to do with Jesus. There is no war on Christmas, there is a war on tolerance in a country that is freaking melting pot!!!
Personally, the good thing about this country is that you can celebrate whatever holiday you want. America is a christmas country, america is a halloween country, america is an easter holiday. If people don't like it they have the freedom to promote and practice their own little holidays. But when you infringe on others rights to do so, say by attacking christmas, then you're giving up your freeedoms to practice your holidays. If you don't like it DON'T CELEBRATE IT! I mean really...
winter break, srping break...oh yeah they just happen to fall on Christmas and Easter...so instead of kids going away due to "winter break" somehow we do not get off on Fall break though do we.
Bill do your research. Christmas is not even an original Christian Holiday. No one in the early church even celebrated it. Christmas was created out of attempt of the catholic Church to convert pagans to the catholic version of Christianity.
What a way to make a mountain out of an ant hill. Must of been a slow newsday. Why don't you just pick on Ron Paul some more. Oh that's right, I forgot, the mere mention of his name hurts the people YOU want in office.
so, if he's the opposition to these so-called "secular progressives", does that make him a "dogmatic regressive"? i just want to make sure i'm avoiding any "spin"... maybe it's just me, but it sounds like O'Reilly is trying to incite some sort of religion-based McCarthyism & that's a really goddamn creepy concept...
Why would the Shepards be out with their sheep in the middle of December. Honestly Bill0 study a little history you thought Jesus existed 5000 years ago. Wow makes you think.
go bill! i cant believe that not letting people where green and re, not saying merry christmas, you cant tell people not to be themselves... bullshit! go bill fuck this
Actually, to me it in looks like it is expanding and adding all the other holidays into it.
You do know there has ALWAYS been a festival/celebration at the time of the Winter Solstice, don't you? The early Christian leaders just were trying to glom onto it to make it more Christian, trying to push out all the other religions.
Yes, 'splashy9' I'm aware of the timeless tradition to celebrate this time of the year, yet I still don't understand why we have to marginalize Christmas, because of that. After all, the same charge can be layed against other religions. For example Hannukah hasn't been a major holiday in Judaim's traditional calendar untill recently, as oppose to Christmas which is, right from the begginning.
Christians didn't always celebrate Christmas. In fact December 25th wasn't even Jesus's birthday. It wasn't in winter at all. Indeed, almost all of what people associate with Christmas (at least in America) was taken from other traditions, mostly pagan rituals and such. As the Christians set about dragging other people into the faith, they did so by incorporating those people's traditions and rituals into the religion.
That would actually be for the best. We should have an all inclusive holiday and celebration of peace, joy, family, and community. And, let's put it later in the winter so there is more time between Thanksgiving, and something to look forward to during the dreary months of winter. Interestingly O'Reilly and his ilk have made me use the word 'Christmas' less and less. I haven't used it on a card in the last 2 years now, and I'm much more aware to say Happy Holidays (or such) to people instead.
Ok I can accept that, and even more that we disagree on that point. I too wnt through a discovery. I discovered the magic word Christmas in my vocabulary, and I greet everyone like that: Have a Blessed Christmas!
"Merry Christmas", "Happy Holidays". They're just WORDS. If you're offended because someone says the latter to you instead of the former you really need to come back to reality
HAHAH Judeo christian tradition!?!? Did the Christians steal the holiday?
Well the first Christians thought that Jesus was born on the 6th of january.
But there was already celebrations in the Roman empire the 25th of December.
So the Christians stole the holiday, many of the traditions (and even large parts of the Jesus story from Mithras) from pagans.
But I like Christmas it's fun and it's a nice mix of Christian and Pagan heritage.
johnatspray 3 years ago
Sure, he says that about "Merry Christmas", but what if someone wished him a "Happy Ramadan"? He'd probably bust a ventricle.
califoniania 3 years ago
As much as i HATE bill...i agree with him
Why would you be offended by a holiday about going to the store, buying a gift, give said gift to someone you love, and a big dinner at the end.

This is fantastic. There's no need to bash Bill O'Reilly. All you have to do is play his own words and he does the rest.

O'Reilly spits into the graves of his Celtic ancestors when he celebrates holiday of pseudo-religion invented by the Jews.
HAPPY YULE!

So, how EXACTLY do the Christian Righties want it for the USA?
Option A: Embrace the public celebration of Christmas, with all of its implications as a "celebration of the birth of Christ" with all cultural and legal force? Or;
B. A return to the "Christian America of the Puritan Founders"-who regarded the celebration of Christmas as Papist pagentry? (It wasn't celebrated until the arrival of German immigrants en mass in the 1800's)
They can't have it both ways!
BenAliGtor 3 years ago 2
"You don't stop saying "Merry Christmas because somebody is offended. That's fascism."
"The business community says, "We don't want to offend anybody, so we're not going to say "merry Christmas", we're going to say "happy Holidays"." That offends millions of Christians!"
So, as long as Christians aren't offended, nobody else matters. Way to be a great person, Mr. O'Reilly.

Early in American history, many Americans did not want to celebrate Christmas. In order to
distance themselves from England. In England,
Christmas was a time for debauchery, which is
why Cromwell banned it. People have been
attacking Christmas for years now.

Merry Christmas you liberal fucking cocksuckers. Oh and happy festivus too.

I could care less if stores say Merry Christmas. STORES have absolutely NOTHING to do with Jesus. There is no war on Christmas, there is a war on tolerance in a country that is freaking melting pot!!!
jsb400 3 years ago 2
Personally, the good thing about this country is that you can celebrate whatever holiday you want. America is a christmas country, america is a halloween country, america is an easter holiday. If people don't like it they have the freedom to promote and practice their own little holidays. But when you infringe on others rights to do so, say by attacking christmas, then you're giving up your freeedoms to practice your holidays. If you don't like it DON'T CELEBRATE IT! I mean really...
xxbruinbrat 3 years ago
First of all, xxbruinbrat, America is not just a "Christmas country" or an "Easter country." We have people of many different beliefs.
Also, I don't think anyone is trying to make their celebrations bigger than others. They just want it to be more inclusive.
xShogunx 3 years ago 3
winter break, srping break...oh yeah they just happen to fall on Christmas and Easter...so instead of kids going away due to "winter break" somehow we do not get off on Fall break though do we.
RunDCM 3 years ago
Bill do your research. Christmas is not even an original Christian Holiday. No one in the early church even celebrated it. Christmas was created out of attempt of the catholic Church to convert pagans to the catholic version of Christianity.

so, if he's the opposition to these so-called "secular progressives", does that make him a "dogmatic regressive"? i just want to make sure i'm avoiding any "spin"... maybe it's just me, but it sounds like O'Reilly is trying to incite some sort of religion-based McCarthyism & that's a really goddamn creepy concept...

I hate to admit, but I hate more to lie. I too see a design that Christmas is more and more marginalized and the word is more and more supressed.
Still I shudder about, that I agree on anything with Big O'Reilly.
wotan20 4 years ago
Actually, to me it in looks like it is expanding and adding all the other holidays into it.
You do know there has ALWAYS been a festival/celebration at the time of the Winter Solstice, don't you? The early Christian leaders just were trying to glom onto it to make it more Christian, trying to push out all the other religions.
splashy9 4 years ago
Yes, 'splashy9' I'm aware of the timeless tradition to celebrate this time of the year, yet I still don't understand why we have to marginalize Christmas, because of that. After all, the same charge can be layed against other religions. For example Hannukah hasn't been a major holiday in Judaim's traditional calendar untill recently, as oppose to Christmas which is, right from the begginning.
wotan20 4 years ago
Christians didn't always celebrate Christmas. In fact December 25th wasn't even Jesus's birthday. It wasn't in winter at all. Indeed, almost all of what people associate with Christmas (at least in America) was taken from other traditions, mostly pagan rituals and such. As the Christians set about dragging other people into the faith, they did so by incorporating those people's traditions and rituals into the religion.
EmeraldView 4 years ago 2
That would actually be for the best. We should have an all inclusive holiday and celebration of peace, joy, family, and community. And, let's put it later in the winter so there is more time between Thanksgiving, and something to look forward to during the dreary months of winter. Interestingly O'Reilly and his ilk have made me use the word 'Christmas' less and less. I haven't used it on a card in the last 2 years now, and I'm much more aware to say Happy Holidays (or such) to people instead.
EmeraldView 4 years ago
Ok I can accept that, and even more that we disagree on that point. I too wnt through a discovery. I discovered the magic word Christmas in my vocabulary, and I greet everyone like that: Have a Blessed Christmas!
wotan20 4 years ago
What an idiot. He thinks he can just say that Happy Holidays offends Christians and speak for every Christian when he says that?

"Merry Christmas", "Happy Holidays". They're just WORDS. If you're offended because someone says the latter to you instead of the former you really need to come back to reality
