My interpretation upon first seeing the ending:

The boy is dead. The crash through the glass at the end was him breaking back into the world of the living. But as he approaches his sister (who is burying him), he begins to realize the truth. The sister is startled by the sudden feeling of a strange presence nearby.

Other clues that led me to this:

- The boy has white eyes (a ghost?), the girl doesn't

- The girl does not turn around after she's startled (there is nobody physically there)

Both brother and sister fell out of a tree house as it partially collapsed.

The boy wakes up first in Limbo after dying and searches for her sister.

The spider represents fear.

Tribal characters represent loneliness.

Rain represents depression.

Cogs represent structure and progress (memory of tree house)

Gravity represents falling (from tree house)

The ending is where he realises his sister also died and she is found digging for the answer, they're both ghosts. -physdog

Guys. The actual answer is fucking obvious. If anybody knows ANYTHING about what Limbo is, it's basically an afterlife with no progress. Think about it. At the end of the game, your character goes through that grid and he lays down on the ground. That's the start of the new cycle. Don't you get it? He's in Limbo. Everything is just the same, always for him for eternity. Looping and looping, he's forever looking for his lost sister...
