  • Informative, thanx.

  • WOOOOO oh my goodness You said it If you have trouble focusing & you drink alot of coffee you may wanna check into that. WOW Make some 2011 vids plz!!!!!!!!!!!

  • P.S I forgot to mention I'm still in school.

  • I don't usually drink coffee but I did drink it quite alot earlier this year and it helped me focus and concentrate. Today, however, when I drank some coffee my concentration was down I couldn't stop fidgeting and (this isn't to do with the coffee) I was very impulsive.

  • she's talking about the general population not just YOU you dumb cunts

  • I'm a 21 year old college student and have mild ADD (no hyperactivity). I don't drink coffee at all, but do consume my fair share of Dr. Pepper. I have gone so far as to use caffeine pills, at 200mg their really too big, but I watch my intake and only use what i need. I think caffeine, for me, has been a better option than the standard medications (not to mention cheaper), but keep in mind I am on the mild end on ADD.

  • I have ADHD and I can drink 3 bottles of redbull and sleep afterwards, and for me it DOES make me focus and calm for a couple of hours, but lately I've been overdoing it so the effect isn't as good as before.

  • It is the biggest PITA to obtain treatment for adult ADHD. After you convince the doctor that you have it (no small undertaking for an adult), you have to go back every few months for reasons I could never understand and pop in every 30 days to pay for a prescription that you have to physically take to the pharmacy where you pay again. God help you if you travel or move. I gave up and have been successfully treating my ADHD with caffeine and nicotine.

  • yep, fix adhd with drugs instead of just attempting to concentrate

  • I drink coffee to keep me awake on the way to college. When its over, I drive home feeling pretty weird.

  • I have ADHD, and I was a Mt. Dew addict. I drank it ALL day. I've finally quit. It's been one month without withdrawal. The last time I quit Mt Dew, I had a month long head ache. But so far, I feel fine.

BTW, I've been ADD my whole life and it has destroyed my life. And I had a HELL of a tim getting a diagnosis from a shrink. The say Im BP II. But I persisted in my arguments, that I was ADD, and DID finally get the dx.

I'm all messed up now. My life is wasted.

  • I too felt like a magnet to what was said in this video. I could see myself in every detail mentioned. I never knew that my habits were classic in any way. But I always struggled with comprehension, focus, getting bored, stimulants, and i akso blew through many relationships if you would even call them such. Hell it's 1:00 am now and I am wired for sound - hate the mornings - always have.

    CLW

  • I got Adult ADHD now take a 50 mg Caffeine Tablet the moment I wake up in the morning. It’s totally changed my life! I've gone from a person who hates morning moaning and groaning to someone who does important things straight away rather then get distracted by the day. To balance this I only then drink a coke or 2 during the day and 6 hours before I sleep I make sure I don’t have Caffeine and others things to stop sleep working!

  • Before my oral exams i drank 2,5 liters of red bull :/ I started to shake eventually and i coded a program in actionscript for 11 hours straight. Hard to say if that was due to the coffeine or just because i loved coding so much. Once i started coding i just couldn't stop :P I don't think that's hyperfocus though, just an inability to stop something that's interesting :)

i've stopped energy drinks after I began on methyphenidate, they make me feel nauseated somehow :(

  • @cl1mbat1ze hey can u teach me how to code?

all i know is how to make a html and css thing on notepad what can i do next and could u show/teach me?

  • @acebit23 I'm not really a very good coder, I coded in highschool but I'm more into other stuff now, although I still love coding :) So i can't teach you specifics but if you tell me what you want to code (flash games, websites or whatever) i could tell you which language you should try and then you can find plenty of tutorials on google. I had actionscript 3 in highschool which is very good at flash games, but for real games for example you should try C# :)

  • I would say learn some assembly

  • @jacobwinther123 Um, okay...this isn't an "all or nothing" thing.

  • @DocADHD I have adhd and cafine is to me a all or nothing thing. (not in the way of the jerk who answered you). I drink caffeine and i feel tired half the time but the other half im awesome. Its more that when i use cafine allot im tired but if i let go of it and have it once a day i feel pretty good.

  • @jacobwinther123 i know me to but i drink it anyway

  • @jacobwinther123 i notice that people that are thinner have more responses to caffene

  • wow..its weird i know this but never connected the dots hahaha, dont drink coffee so much but do drink a lot of redbull and more so when i have something i really need done!!! it works i drink until iam done then the crash, brain just stops..also use methylphenidate (mitron) and strangly never looked at why the huge crash at times!! thanks again..

  • I drink coffee once a day for 5 days a week. I have it every morning at school. I find that it keeps me alert and awake only for couple hours when I need it most. But later on like maybe with my lunch I go for a fruit flavoured water or an energy drink where I need to stay focus for the rest of the day.

  • Thanks for the info! I have seen a doc but not on adhd meds just yet. My dose of Lexapro has been increased. Nice to know I can get 30 minutes of focus on something!

  • @FATKATKY You are very welcome! :)

  • I'm really amazed at the variance of people's reactions to caffeine. Thanks so much for your input!

  • I always thought it was a great litmus test for people who may be diagnosed with ADHD but are not sure if they really have it, especially with all the false diagnosis out there. If you drink coffee or take other stimulants (I hear the same stuff about cocaine for example), and these stimulants calm you or even make you sleepy you are far more likely to have ADHD than someone who has the "normal" reaction of getting stimulated after taking these substances.

  • thanks, it is very helpful for me

  • I have Adult ADHD and caffeine makes me sleepy.....zzzzzzzzz

  • I know a lot of people with ADHD, and it's a well-known fact that people with ADHD are not nearly as affected by Caffeine as people without it are. I have been told this by numerous pediatricians throughout my life.

I have ADHD, and I can drink any energy drink, take energy shots, and take caffeine pills, and it does absolutely nothing to me, or anyone else with ADHD, but make me sick from an overdose of caffeine.

The information in this video is not accurate, I regret to inform you.

  • @breeminevalentine It may not be accurate in your case, but many people with ADHD have increased focus with caffeine. In my experience with patients, several have chronic caffeine use, more so than the general population.

  • @DocADHD I strongly agree with you I was diagnosed with ADHD around sixth grade but stopped taking the meds years ago. found myself consuming massive amounts of caffeine. I can get over the withdraws but then i really start bouncing off the walls. Funny how people say i should lay off the caffeine only after i stop using it.

  • @breeminevalentine for the most part I agree caffeine dose not do much for energy but it dose help me focus for a bit. And I take L-Theanine to help stop the bad side affects of caffeine.

  • I'm A.D.D. (Not hyperactive) 1/2 a cup of coffee keeps me focused 2 cups wake me up. Sometimes I'll drink a cup before before going to bed and I sleep fine.

  • I drink Pepsi or Coke all day long, all week long. At least a 6 pack a day. It's funny about dark chocolate. I never knew it had more caffeine. When I get a candy bar I always get the "dark" versions. Who woulda thunk it? I gave up smoking, drinking and drugs years ago but I won't give up my caffeine...yet.

  • Thank you for the service that you are providing. I'm have 2 boys with AD/HD and am working on an intervention paper to help the siblings of children with AD/HD cause they don't have it easy either! Love your comment below to Jerry2times - you have a fantastic sense of humor!!!

  • @starbright32 You are welcome! Let me know how your paper goes! And thank you for the compliment!

  • I am heavily impacted by caffeine but love a hot drink in the morning. I have found that decaf coffee and tea leave me with the same negative impact as reguar; headache and lack of focus. Presumably this is due to vasocontriction. So is it caffeine, or something else in coffee and tea?

Also, any suggestions for a hot morning drink without these problems?

  • Same I can't take caffine at all, one cup makes my body go crazy. Why is that?

  • Me too. I get very paranoid.

  • @Gr0ygirl I think each of us has such unique body chemistry that can impact how we react to things.

  • Perhaps my self-analysis is inaccurate and bias, but caffeine has very little effect on me. I will take it in the morning, and it doesn't wake me up; also, I can drink caffeine before going to bed, without noticing any major sleeping abnormalities (not to say that I'm not sleeping normally to begin with). Someone actually told me that caffeine has a reverse effect when it comes to ADHD.

  • Caffeine is a stimulant, not a depressant. Just because you have adhd doesn't mean it will make you tired.

  • what are your credentials? you seem to directly correlate ADD to lack of mental stimulation.

  • The length that caffeine lasts, depends on what form u take it in. The reason caffeine only lasts for about 30 minutes in most peeps is coz they take it in a liquid form such as energy drinks or coffee.... etc. Tablets on the other hand take hours to break down jst like Ritalin or any other stimulants. I can easily got frew about 20 pro plus caff tabs a day & the effects tend to last for about 3-4 hours.

ure right about the cum dwns bein nasty... but dnt u experience similar cumdwns on adderal?

  • yeah i know i used to like energy drinks i felt i would focus more.and yeah the after sideeffects were totally not worth it .i felt so horrible after headaches a depressed feeling worrying and just horrible things

    thank you

    great video again

  • hahah, i getting sleepy of coffee :-P same with the red bull and energy drinks :-P

  • lol, the same!

  • I need a double jolt of caffeine to get myself going in the morning until my meds kick in. But here in the UK it's extremely hard to get treatment. We need better NHS services for people with ADHD because its so difficult to get help. Please sign the petition on 10 Downing Street site to help improve NHS services. Sorry can't put a link here so do a Google search for "aadd uk petition" to find it . Thanks for your help!!

  • Caffeine doesn't do anything to me. When I drink coffee or any energy drinks like Red Bull, Monster etc.. I get irritated I can't concentrate. Caffeine doesn't wake me up at all. I don't get focus, with coffee. I don't know why I get so tired with caffeine, however I never get sleepy. I suffer from insomnia.

  • i treat my self with black coffee with out sugar because i dont have ritalin right now :)

  • @fmcg552 ritalin used to make sleep as a child.

  • I am addicted to caffeine...but it does not really stimulate me...It might sorta balance me out a bit..but it makes me groggy. SOmetimes it might wake my brain up more so that my brain knows what it wants to do a little better..often then, Brain decides that it wants to go back to bed. I am a bit of a non-hyperactive AS/ADDer...

I am not on meds, though i would really sorta like to be because I am perpetually overwhelmed..my executive dysfunction is sooo bad....Coffee is not enough...

  • this is really the same for me. except I am a bit hyperactive.

caffeine (300mg or more) is really great for about thirty minutes and then I'm about ready for a nap :\

  • I prefer to drink about a litre of coffee a day, I like to have a nice strong coffee just before I go to sleep, and I don't find it interferes with methylphenidate, I do find marijuana interferes with methylphenidate, cancels it out all together.

  • Mmm funny, when i drink 1 or 2 cups of coffee or cola i'm getting sick. I get tremmors, shivering my face turns white with cold sweat i feel realy sick. But how is it possible that i eat dayly between 8 and 12 pills of ritalin and that no problem at all? I really need them when i stop feel the depression and anxiety comming back (excuse my poor english grammar ).

  • I have tracked my caffeine intake and reaction for some and have concluded that it has a very negative impact on my ability to concentrate. I have a history of heavy caffeine intake and perhaps its not ADD related, but I go for decaf, go 50/50 regular/decaf, or usually have regular or decaf tea. Any thoughts on negative impacts of caffeine on concentration?

  • I am suffering from terrible withdrawal from caffeine. This is my third day on Adderall and I believe that the withdrawal effects from caffeine are counter-acting the effects of the medication. I plan on having a little bit more, then "weening" off over about two weeks

  • i'm now in the progress of getting the correct diagnosis but specialists can't decide whether i'm inattenive add or pdd nos.

I do drink a lot of energy drinks before going to crowded places, coffee is too weak to work. Besides that i also have this extreme calmness combined with extreme sharpness in stressy situations. On my final school exam the teachers said they never saw someone that calm during exams. The same thing happened when they tried to rob me. I loved the adrenalin very much.

  • Good advice, Stephanie.

Many people with ADHD don't realize that caffeine can make symptoms worse--and increase irritability.

Also caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, so it actually slow bloodflow to the brain--not a good idea for anyone but especially the ADHD-affected brain.

  • i have some bad ass adhd and caffeine kinda helps

  • The onely way you can have ADHD is if you have insurance.I love the books that tell you about the doctor or the lawyer or the succesfull banker who went to the doctor about being forgetfull and or scatter briand and how finding out that they have ADHD and how much better their life is now after being diagnosed. With one or 2 stories sprinkled in on how ADHD has seriously impacted someones life in a truly negative way.Needless to say these individuals aren't really discussed at great length.

  • And then there are those that feel that ADHD is overdiagnosed in people that don't have insurance. Go figure.

  • I've been speculating about Caffeine, I do wonder if unregulated dosages may cause Add or Adhd , to me its a speed, often mixed with sugar, giving another rush, and as Ritalin is a speed, would this be compensating for a deficit in the dietary need for speed, created by our food companies?
