  • @eileen105 I learned longteng in my first year too..... and it's a chuida piece in my school too!

  • Hahaha I play the gaoyinsheng and in my Chinese orchestra, long teng hu yue is a chuida (chuiguan and daji) only piece.

  • The soloist was rushing a bit ):

  • long stick use better, i think ??

  • im in chinese orchestra

  • is the drummer's rhythym a little rushing from 2:26 to 2:36 or is it just me?

  • @hochuanlui He got a bit too excited... xD

  • @hochuanlui it's not just you

  • awesome!

  • the soloist looks mad when he played the drum solo XD

  • fantastic!!!

  • Any more of this particular event?

  • That's what I call an orchestra!!!

    Beautiful drums!

  • chinese musical instruments history can be as old as 2000 yrs old

  • @kwekhc007 Actually it should be over 3000 years old.

  • Hahas, this is one of my favourite piece i've learned so far. but the version i learned is different from this . playing the qu di xD

  • well. its my 3rd year. started in sec 1. haha kinda easy for me alr.

  • for dizi is depends on which flute. will b easy with practice. (:

  • im learning this song too ! but i play cello de so should be easier .

  • I like the drum part!!!!

We all get excited when it comes to that part!!!

    XD

  • where can i find the score?

  • hot. i love it

  • The first song is Prancing Dragons and Running Tigers.

Our marching band played it for our '08 show. My jaw dropped when I realized what the song was.

    Very beautiful sounding, though.

  • @absolutezer1 hey, I was wondering about the marching band playing this piece, I'd be interested in seeing a vid of it, I'm wondering about the result.

  • i played this song for thousand times. We all will get very excited from the first note until the last note. I play flute in my orchestra, the most scary part for me is the solo part of flute from 1.48,,, but the percussion is not that easy in this song. *personal opinian.

  • oo =) i have no music background bt then since i come in secondary school sec 1 currently, my orhestra conductor wants to play long teng hu yue for this year chinese new year lols. i play er-hu, i see de fingering like quite fast... hows flute playing of long teng hu yue ? can share wib me? Isn't the notes have many? i heard that long teng hu yue mainly is for guan yue and da qi yue.

  • yeah, i think it sounds much nicer in chuida - guanyue and da ji yue. and first year only start long teng? my sch first yr go learn basics :D

  • wow! whats the instrument at 2:04?

  • it's called 竹板(zhuban) made from bamboo,

the performance using only 竹板 is called 快板书 (kuaibanshu)。

  • this is amazing, I have listen to it many times, but never get tired of it! It's so powerful for a music, this is the beauty of chinese orchestra.

  • ya...he did play according to the score...but he didnt really play up to standard.mistakes like nt playing on tempo shouldnt happen at all..and in any case i dun think anyone should claim himself as the BEST IN THE WORLD

  • this guy is too arrogant...he call himself the best drummer in the world...and obviously he is nt. juz look at hw many stupid mistakes he made in the video. veri surprised a "master" like him behave in this manner

  • i would agree he is not the best drummer but he didn't make that many mistakes. we have the music piece that our orchestra plays and he pretty much sticks to what is written.

  • Love it!

  • Awesome, like it. Nizho'ni'.

  • wonderful

  • off the charts for me

    very very

    impressive

  • Magnificent!

    and i mean it!

  • what's that instrument at 1:56 called ?

  • It's called Gao Yin Sheng 高音笙, a wonderful woodwind instrument=)

  • cool :P it looks interesting to play :D

  • not necessarily wood. sometimes it is metal

  • Ya, it's made of metal nowadays. By the way, "woodwind" doesn't mean that it's made of "wood" =)

  • now that i think of it , it does look smaller then a gao yin sheng because of size reference between his hands and the instrument.

  • I thought it was a Traditional sheng?

  • Amazing :)

  • Hands down to Yim Hok Man. Wonderfully expressive!

  • That's crazy. I love it to !!!

  • i love this song its awsokme

  • Hen hao! It's fun to see what these instruments actually look like. I've only seen the erhu and the pei-pa before. That trumpet type instrument is something else!

  • it is spelled pipa and the trumpet type thing is proabably suona

  • wow the dynamics they employ in the percussion section is skilled!

  • Soooo many instruments I never saw.. Could someone tell me what instrument is shown at 1:57 ?? thanx

Btw, great chinese music (as usual)

  • its called a 'sheng'. you can find more info at wikipedia. =)

  • thanx m8t, i look for it on wikipedia. :)

  • Bravo! A great Chinese Orchestra performance.

  • I like this song

  • I love the part at 01:48 :)

  • HKCO.香港。

  • do any of your know about the song Yu Zhou Kai Ge?

  • I love loong teng hu yue. Performed it a lot of times.

Well, he's tempo is a bit off, I think...

  • ya. he was getting faster. i think hes too into the mood.. but overally it sounds alright. so it still rock. :D:D

  • this guy's tempo is kinda off? HUR.

  • ya this song rocks.. i saved the gu solo part in my mp3.. damn nice seh.

  • I played this song when I was 10 during the SYF. So far, the best song I've heard. It's so full of gusto, Brillance!

  • I'm delighted, thx a lot!

  • so nice the song

  • awesome! i thought most traditional Chinese music was lost cause of the revolution, its great too see authentic Chinese music!

  • cause the drums are the main instruments wad... of course in front la... quek ling kiong on study leave...

  • lol...i know quek ling kiong..almost everybody in the chinese orcestra knows him...lol...of cuz his percussion rocks...ever went to mega concert 2004?

    lol...

Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra is great too!!

I was surprised about the symphony arrangement

(i meaN as in the chairs)

ANd why the drums are infront

  • Quek Ling Kiong is in Singapore Chinese Orchestra. He went overseas to study conducting now, if i'm not wrong.. Will be back in around 2 years time. He does teach students too. ^-^

  • yep, will be back after 2 yrs. he rawks man. great teacher! =]

  • if u tink dat guy is considered good (which i dont), check out e original composer li mingxiong. he plays much better. or dis guy from s'pore called quek ling kiong, li's disciple. tops. period.

  • awesome; like a turntable DJ on live percussionz

  • there definitely is. thats the beauty of this song.

  • no doubt this song's great.

budden look at the drummers at the front.

pardon me, but they look awesomely spastic! -_-

  • the more i watch the more i notice there is no range in dynamics(volume?)

  • i luv HKCO's performance for always!

  • come on man, THAT is a real performer. without those movements, i can bet that the quality of his music will never be good.

besides, its really disappointing man, when was this taken? their tempo is not there at all man. does anyone gives a hoot about the conducor?! gosh, percussion so off beat man.

ps. anyone noes wads sunny wong's father's name? he looks damn cool

  • These guys are professionals. I can tell you now that they didn't make any elementary mistakes like you're suggesting. If it sounds off to you, it's supposed to be that way.

  • yeah ... CO ... my cca ... the overall orchestra is good lar ... like my skool cca ... but the percussion dude is just too much ...

  • very differrent than my western orchestra

  • erm....the suona is not bad,the sheng is reli yeng...the percussion solo is cool...the instrumnets are full..but the paigu/dagu sololist..is reli damn fake, looks like idiot, has a damn fake laugh, swings head too much,eww....ugly....but the song is great...better than my skul orchestra..
