I grew up with "strong" black women who were obviously hurt by past experiences so they believe they have to put on this strong front (e.g. be really loud, proclaim "they don't need a man," and pretend they don't care when they really do) to guard themselves. It's okay to feel hurt and vulnerable, ladies. It doesn't make you weak, but actually strong because you can face yourself rather than run away from it (e.g. putting up a front).

It's been YEARS that I've been hearing "Men (general) can't handle (undefined) a strong woman (undefined)." Not ONE time has ONE woman given me a clear answer on just what that means. When they are called out about this, they then have to either back off and say "well, what it means for ME is....", or they have to avoid the conversation--either through diversionary arguing/accusation, or staying quiet (not often the choice). So, I've stopped taking that seriously!

It's been YEARS that I've been hearing "Men (general) can't handle (undefined) a strong woman (undefined)." Not ONE time has ONE woman given me a clear answer on just what that means. When they are called out about this, they then have to either back off and say "well, what it means for ME is....", or they have to avoid the conversation--either through diversionary arguing/accusation, or staying quiet (not often the choice). So, I've stopped taking that seriously!

There is a very informative book called "The Black Girl Curse" that covers this exact subject. Black men were falling and crawling to black women until black women completely lost their minds behind an absolute tsunami of government assistance programs in the mid 70's and early 80's that ranged from free rent and medical care to free on the job training to preferred military recruiting for minority females and since the mid 70's there has been a mass exodus away from black women.

Being strong has nothing to do with rolling your eyes and the attitude filled body language the black woman often sports. My mother is a very very strong black woman.Not once in my 18 years as her son has she displayed that attitude shit. That attitude comes from the ghetto people displayed on television. On my dad's side (still African but different tribe) the women have ATTITUDE (a certain level of aggressiveness and unpleasentnes and eye rolling shit)! Black American women have tonnes of attitude so do black British(I'm in UK) women. It seems attitude is common among some black communities. Oh and yeah avoid Jamicans and Nigerians!!!
