What a great scene - masterful salesman. When someone tries this I usually walk away. In this case the advice is probably not too unsound but it is the principle of the thing.
I want to see this movie - I remember seeing it as a kid on tv - the foley scene. My Dad explained what foley means. I can use it to this day and 99% of the people still don't know what it means.
AAHH! Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! I was doing a marathon viewing of "Curb Yout Enthusiasm" and started to think that Mary Funkhouser (Super Dave) was the same guy from this great scene. Been looking for it for weeks. Huge props!
Funniest gag ever: when he picks up his date, drives around the block and drops her off again. Also, when he's playing "5th of beethoven" and says "I love my records" in a quaalude-induced stupor.
Also when he calls the girl that he barely knows and asks her out on a date ("and Ellen ... and Ellen ... "), and when she says "Im surprised to hear from you, I mean, you barely spoke to me at that party" and he glances at the phone in disbelief for a second and then says slurringly, "Ellen, dont be paranoid ..."
absolutely-Officer Judy from the old Smothers Brothers program-one of the funniest scenes I ever seen,I remember seeing this on HBO or Showtime way back in the day when it was a fairly new release-great,great movie-loved the Quallude scene too

A great comedy scene by the two brothers.
"I misjudged you. I'm not perfect. Buy the box, you'll like it." (in disapproving voice)

The Einstein brothers circa 1974. Can you believe Marty Funkhouser was once almost good-looking?

What? It's 1981??? Well must have been made in 79-80. Looks too too old.

i thought so! isn't he related to brooks?
lazarus0202 3 years ago
I dunno but this scene is hilarious. Super Dave also is pretty funny in his cameo on "Arrested Development".

This seriously, might be my favorite film.

The salesman in that scene is Brooks' real-life older brother, Bob "Super Dave Osborne" Einstein.
