It's really just 'a time of legends' with no importance to accuracy. Keep in mind that while Genie IMPERSONATES Moses, and Osiris/Horus and Thor are immortal Gods, Caesar and Cleopatra are also there and ALIVE. Not impersonated. Caesar died in 44 BC. See how it doesn't really matter?

@bellakazza O.o the joke has nothing to do with Islam or the Ottoman Empire. It's a self-fulfillng joke, in that when a crowd parts, its usually because someone important has arrived. Crowds can also sometimes be described as literally a sea of people. In the case of the joke however, the two large men represent the Red Sea. The one on the left has clothes colored to the natural look of any body of water, while the one on the right is red for obvious reasons. Hence the Moses joke.

And it certainly didn't stop them from having Merlin predict such things as the locomotive in The Sword And The Stone. Bringing different people from different times together (unless you're talking Mulan or one of those other ones) was the style they used for the purpose of humor and it worked really well. So if you don't like it, you'll need to get accustomed.
