@nintendomanofgod To be fair it's awesome but to be honest it's actually only two notes but the third is a harmonic created by the resonance of the instrument. Try it - I've got it to work. =)
The other day I listened to Clarke Terry and Bob Brookmeyer and I am in no doubt as to having made the right choice, respect to these guys though, top othe game! sorry for mentioning a valve trombone player on a brass band post though! lol
I started out in the brass band scene, did a couple years at Salford College about 25 years ago. It was a great place, but a bit intimidating too. emphasis on techical facility, rather than individual discovery of ones style etc. I got so fed up and turned to Jazz, never looked back, make a pretty good living playing jazz and function stuff on my 1961 Olds recording trombone! ....
Very adept and very entertaining, You're bang on the money with your remark MrAndySkinner. but that competitive attitude is so endemic in the brass band game...
@MrAndyskinner - You're so right Andy... It's like arguing that chicken jalfrezi is better than King prawn dansak... both extremely good... just enjoy the music and celebrate diversity - Jimmy the Lip (sat next to John Doyle in the movie)
He has an amazing way of gathering an enormous amount of air into his lungs, then making it come out at such a speed that he can play anything that he wants. Along with an incredible amount of practice, of course.
I agree with you, myself I am a trumpet player, and I wonder how it makes, it is impressive, I will want to play well like him.
me I like much to play the trumpet piccolo, I have a schilke p5-4,But to return has James, it is extra terrestrial, I do not know large world which is to play as much of instrument like him, and especially on a top C it turns the trumpet and it plays it back is to be seen!!
i hav to disagree. he is a very good showman, and a good jazz performer, but in comparison to vizzutti, wynton, their jazz playing surpasses him, and add to the fact that those guys are technicaly supurb, they can go from jazz to stricked classical solos perfectly. then u have other brass players like steven mead, oystein baadsvik, christian lindberg,
Amazing!!! *lol* That's not jealousy, that is pure shock!! haha The face of the guy in back (left side) is priceless. About the same expression I had on my face when I saw JM live. ; )
Wow, his opening multiphonic trombone "duet" is so rhythmic - I can feel the swing drum beat in his tonguing and emphasis. There's a guy who takes it to a different level.
I know they look static compared to the star but they are are some of the best in the world. If tutored right they should have no movement at all as it should all be achieved via breath control. James Morrison is a genious and so on a higher plane than mere brilliant players. He can do what he wants.
you are probably dead right but they are playing exactly what is written on the music sheet and proberbly paerfectly. I try to play jazz tunes on my Euph and I feel that there should be no solid concept of time and beat other than what feels right. I play in a brass band and everything becomes mathematical and precise but you can still inject mood and rhythem and feeling without the need for flamboyance. A bow at the end is considered as extrovert! lol
Does anyone know if he has recorded this before? and can i get it on itunes or something? His multiphonics are amazing, can do it on the flute but not that well lol.
well for starters he's using his trigger so that way it's closer. But he also has amazing control so he can bend whole pitches. I've seen a trumpet player that played a C maj. Scale without pressing any valves.
I saw a clip of him doing this from 10 or 15 years ago and the multiphonics and fours with trumpet were EXACTLY the same! This is nothing more than a tired party trick. Yes, he has superb technique, but I wouldn't go out of my way to hear him.
Why are you being so negative? I enjoy music and reading your comments seems like you are a little jealous. I comment on talent when I hear it no matter who it is. To me this is a talent that everybody can't do and I can't stand it when someone get on here and try to steal everyone's listening pleasure.
I'm not saying he's not talented - infact, I said he had a superb technique. But if I had is facility I'd be doing more with it than just old party tricks that's all. Wouldn't life be boring if we all agreed on everything?!!
Now This James Morrison Is a Diamond Cut Classic Style Pro! A prevalence of Stamina & Excellance...Thank you Wayne Cobham for widening my eyes, and ears...a Treasure this
I am amazed at James's ability every time I see him do this. I may be a little biased toward him but I love his music and in my mind when it comes to style and articulation I can't think of too many that are better.
WOW!! Just in flexibility , range, musicality, and great Improv, Jim has blown my socks off.. A life-long committment to Music and a tremendous amount of hard work shows in every note. Congrats!!
The partials are close together in the upper register. When he uses the F-attachment, the partials are even closer together so he can hit about any note. Watch and you can see the valve moving.
whey i was there lol that night was amazing, with the african dancers and the choir. The cornet player lee rigg is my sectional teacher lol and the percussionist paul lovatt cooper is my muisc gcse teacher lols. james morrisson was amazing with his multi-phonics n solos
