@Daraisvip He's like the chinese Christopher Lee, always the bad guy. But hes damn good at it, especially in Fist of Legend vs Jet Li as the Japanese general.
@daibangmientay2003 Iron Monkey 2 it's pretty bad, a few decent fights in there though, the producers even tried to lie this has choreography by Yuen Woo Ping, by calling someone Yuen Ho Ping
@CrimesonWitcher If by way back in the day, you mean 1995, after a bevy of Jackie Chan movies, as well as Fist of Legend, which all had significantly better choreographed fight scenes. Or hell, Mortal Kombat, a completely Hollywood movie; and Hollywood usually fails at martial arts scenes something fierce.
Honestly, unless these guys are supposed to be Super Saiyans, or stowaways from Krypton, there's no excuse for the ridiculousness.
@Elusareth It's to exaggerate their abilities and make tie fight seem more exciting. You are supposed to be amazed and how power and strong the good guys are. Billy Chow's character was losing until his friend Donnie showed up to even things out. No one is really that strong that they can take a house apart but it would be boring without it. It's supposed to be that crazy because it's a freaking movie. Now stop complaining.
@CrimesonWitcher Um...no? It being a 'freaking movie' isn't an excuse for stupid things to happen and be immune to criticism. It's not impressive when it's ridiculously over the top. When Donnie Yen does one of his hovering multi-kicks, that's okay because while it's not possible, it's only a little bit outside the realm of possibility. Or kicking down a door that might ordinarily take a small ram. But unless the movie is about superpeople, knocking buildings down is, um...retarded
@Elusareth That's your opinion of course so stop acting like it's a fact because it seems like some people agree with me. Plus without this over the top stuff we wouldn't have DBZ or alot of the shows me have now because someone had to pave the way and come up with the idea for over the top. Tarantino wouldn't be as big as he is without this stuff. Learn your history.
@CrimesonWitcher lolwhat? Quentin Tarantino is big because of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. It has nothing to do with Kill Bill or getting these movies brought to the U.S. Also, DBZ is like 14 years older than this movie. I may take your suggestion to learn my history, but it will probably be real history instead of whatever the hell kind of history it is that you're pulling out of your ass.
Also, RE: opinions. Has nothing to do with opinion. 'Its a muvie!!!' is just not a justification.
@Elusareth so you're saying that it's not justification for going overboard in a purely fantasy movie? Would you say that to George Lucas while he was filming those crazy super jumps when he did star wars? Shut up dude. You're the only one crying about this movie. Everyone knows this movie was made to entertain and it does. You want real stick to the U.F.C. and stop watching movies.
@CrimesonWitcher Except this isn't a fantasy movie is it? No, it isn't. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a fantasy movie. This is just a movie with hilariously bad gimmicks that have no reason to exist. I think the Star Wars movies were fine movies. Had George Lucas randomly involved lightsabers and starfighters in American Graffiti however, that would have been stupid. There is a difference here. See if you can find it.
And lol@crying. You are the one flipping out and saying random shit.
@Elusareth Not Fantasy? So you're telling me this is based on a true story then? They people are doing super jumps and destroying the environment. Does that sound like it's real to you that these guys can level a stair case with just a few kicks? MORON. If you don't get that part then you really don't understand Chinese film making. They always try to make their kung fu look super amazing and super human. No one can really fly or punch through a brick wall.
@CrimesonWitcher lol. I don't think *you* understand Chinese film making. Or any kind of film making. Or much of anything. Clearly not the concepts you are arguing. No, not all Chinese films feature retarded sequences where supernatural powers come out of nowhere. A good many of them at least have the taste to keep them within the bounds of reasonable suspension of disbelief. If all Chinese films were like this, I'm pretty sure the HK film industry would be deader than it is already.
@CrimesonWitcher It's kind of like you and stupidity. Many people are stupid. Hell, maybe I'm even stupid compared to certain people. But you seem to take it and leap through the air with it as though flying on invisible, retarded wings, straining the limits of just how dumb people are able to believe a human could possibly be. You have no idea what you're talking about, and just say things with an air of arrogance and faux familiarity, hoping people will believe you.
@CrimesonWitcher You can have the last word here, if you like. I'm sure it will be something deep and cutting ("YOU CANT JUDGE A MOVIE BY ITS QUALITY HYA") and possibly dripping with laconic wit. It's clear by your random ass excuses and horrible reasoning, frosted with hostility that I'm pretty much right about everything. Good day, and have fun with the coloring book and football helmet.
@Elusareth Say whatever you want but four thumbs up on my comment and non on your means people agree with me. Bye idiot and go back to your U.F.C. and leave the classics to the real fans.
Man, I'm so glad that Donnie has switched towards realism now. Here we have two extremely talented screen fighters and it's all wasted on the often decadent style of 90's Hong Kong.
They should've realized that a straightforward, no holds barred fight between these two without any special effects would've been way better than a live action cartoon.
@Tadddius: Do you realize that most of the fights in the most recent UFC were stand up battles, with the main card being won via left jab? I hope you're not one of these people that sees a bit of something they don't understand/like (grappling), and passes judgment.
What makes your comment more ironic is that Donnie Yen incorporated grappling and groundfighting into Sha Po Lang and Flashpoint, two of his masterpieces.
Donnie Yen is probably the most underrated martial arts film artist if you wanna compare him with Jet Li, Jackie Chan, etc...He's a great actor, great director and choreographer.
okay Mr Troll under the bridge - before you slag off Jackie and Jet, watch New Police Story, Rob-B-Hood,The Shinjuku Incident, Little Big Solider, Fearless, The Warlords - all better than any of Tony Jaa's films - besides, even Tony Jaa has said - 'Jackie Chan is my idol - if it weren't for him, I would not be doing what I am doing. You are such a weenie fucking fanboy - must have a big grudge against Jackie Chan.
@DooKNo1 tony jaa still not bigger than Jackie. Donnie worked his way up, made tv series and films, went into tv series again. donnie yen. Just like the Japanese currency and economy in Japan is fucked. lol Donnie yen
@DooKNo1 also, I like Samo, but whether you think so or not, Samo's career was finished long ago. Just like Donnie. I guess that is why they in this film together. Now you might come back to me and say Samo is great and all that. I like Samo a lot, just so you know.
@DooKNo1 face what facts, why you keep saying am ignorant when I haven't attacked you. A main reason that Donnie got the role was because he has been a movie star in hong kong for a long time. Also they probably couldn't afford to hire Jet or Jackie. You just said it yourself, he is taking the distribution route to get recognition. He's so popular that when I asked someone do they know Donnie, they say who? go away you brainwashed and stop jerking off donnie
@DooKNo1 well i am laughing cos you are so bothered by my comments, but if you like to waste your time posting that many messages to me, then I don't bother me lol. I mean ip man is so popular that is why it is shown in cinemas all over world not. lol. Donnie will never be bigger than Jackie or Jet. Never has, and probably will not ever. Bye
@DooKNo1 All that popularity stuff is bull? lol. Isn't film show business? I did not say Donnie owes Jackie or Jet, your missing the point. I am saying he ain't no great martial artist, real fighter or great film star. I don't hate donnie, I just think he is crap most of the time. Like I said your a fan, a big fan, so again good luck for great donnie films to come. Yeah there were big stars in the 60s and 70s. Bruce lee. Only him, Jackie and Jet ever achieved international stardom. sigh. lol
@DooKNo1 yeah he has made some good films but he was never as big as Jackie. Oh Donnie was so popular that he played the bad guy in a Jet Li movie lol. I know Donnie was popular in Hong Kong, but Jet and Jackie were superstars in Hong Kong before they went to the U.S. Sigh, you are just a Donnie fan lol. I don't see the point in this debate, so if you like I will let you win. He is everything you say he is. Good luck
@DooKNo1 how is donnie such a great martial artist? I don't rate a movie star as some real fighter. And just because he has now made some good films in the dried up hong kong film business. Also because super stars such as Jet and Jackie have left hongkong to make films in the U.S, Donnie would never get this much focus if they had not. lol. I do not think he is overpraised at all.
@DooKNo1 Billy chow has been a champion in hongkong and was fighting and winning in the ring in his forties. full contact that using elbow also. donnie is an actor
Wow, I stumble over this clip again and second time I'll say it, horrid film.. You see Donnie yen and Billy Chow and think' fuck yeah, should be good!'? ehhh negative, abismal and not only because of the ridiculous sped up fights.
Wouldn't waste your time watching this unless you like to see their whole filmographies.
I never did like Donnie Yen's director style with the fights, I know it was a style to speed some things up a little, but this just overdoes it and it's like that in almost all his movies. Just bad camera work, serious physics fails, poor endings, poor hits, just stupid...only way to put it, stupid.
Totally agree with you, just all in all a horrible fight scene...thank god Donnie moved away from that in his recent films....i guess back then he was trying to differentiate his style from Jet Li and Jackie Chan
donnie yen is awesome, but the only thing that i really disliked about him before is the obvious fast forward fight scenes, it ruins everything i swear
these movies are soooooo fake its not even entertaining..just a bunch of bullshit..atleast jackie chan and jet li can fight normally and not fly and have superhuman strength and stupid shit like this
wow have u NOT seen any jackie chan and jet li movies, most of them include flying and superhuman strength. don't make conclusions if you don't know shit.
I think many of you guys don't know who Billy is. In real fight, He can KO Donnie in Minutes. Please don't even mention Jacky Chan. Jacky Chan is just an actor.
c'mon now i really don't think he can K.O. Donnie in five minutes but he does look like he can fight very well. Jackie Chan is more like an acrobat consider he grew up with sammo Hung but he jumps around too much and seems to tire his enemy out more then fight them but he does know some shit.
Billy is a former kickboxing champion from Canada. Jacky Chan is just an actor, so how can these two compare? Donnie maybe can fight a bit, but comparing their sizes, it will be Handicap..
Yep I know Billy and his expertise and it's easy to imagine and back up his fighting capabilities in reality. But the thing is that you don't seem to know much about Donnie yourself. He's a real martial artist too having an insanely WIDE arsenal of martial knowledge and techniques, along with a history of street fighting and real-life experiences growing up as a young man and and during his movie career respectively.
I respect your opinion but it really depends on what style defines performance and gymnastics. Wushu for instance, leans on performance and gymnastics. For Donnie however, along with a strong basis in wushu, is well trained in various styles; effective and practical ones and did a bit of competition (nothing he pursued though), added to that his experiences in the streets and real-life. That's about what I would call combative capabilities as a martial artist.
Excellent... I love the shoddy workmanship of the building as well - floorboards fly about, the mezzanine collapses by falling on it, balistrade smashes with a kick and so on... Cool!
No Tony Jaa is more of a showman. Donnie gets my vote by far. Maybe if Sammo Hung directed Jaa's fights they would look much better. So far his films seem more like promo's, showing off what he can do.
If I could move like those guys in this film, I wouldn't need guns or swords. Hong Kong action films could make such OFF THE WALL fighting scenes. It seems like everything a character kicks or punches in a hong kong flick gets shattered like styrofoam or hard plastic.
I don't know man, lol. I think no matter what, if we end up in some of the most dangerous places we're going to face people with guns. So even if you had a gun it wouldn't matter, it's still going to be a pretty bad situation lol. That's the thing nowadays =\, even in Lee's later interviews he admitted that he wouldn't go around picking fights because of guns. It wouldn't matter how good you are at fighting, just one pop and you're gone lol. Stupid guns >=(.
It's not about the setting of the film. Its about movie quality. the quality of this film was by far the worst. The cinematography was awful, and the camera angles change way too fast to even know what's going on. And the frame-rate is tweaked just a tad too high and makes the rest of the film feel fake. This film was a major flop. It didn't do well in China let alone anywhere else. And its not Donnie Yen's fault or Yuen Woo Ping's fault. the blame belongs the crew that edited the film.

It's Not About The Setting Of This Film, But The Fact That Previous Iron Monkey Movies Are Set In Ancient China Which Makes Them Boring And Full Of Cliche.
Also You Know Nothing About Cinema, The More Move Angles Used IS The Better. If You Can't Keep Up I Guess Your Brain Is Too Slow No Need To Blame Movie Creators. The Fights In This Movie Are THE Best In Any Kung Fu Movie.
Also All Kung Fu Movies That Use Wires Feel Fake So You Can't Just Single Out This Movie.
Im sure that if you did your research on the film, then you would know that the whole movie was filmed within two weeks. And yes, the cinematography was AWFUL! Theres no way around that. It doesnt matter if I know film-making or not. Theres no way you can film a quality movie in two weeks. And a crazy amount of changing camera angles equals laziness when it comes to action. Its not just me saying this. The Box Office also hates this film. IR1 compared to IR2. Theres a HUGE difference.
Its ok to like this film, but it doesnt make it good. No matter where you look, you'll find nothing but negative reviews. And quick-changing camera angles are only a good thing depending on the type of film that your making. NOT a kung fu film. Its more exciting to see the action. Also, great cinematography is like an art-form. Without it, any movie would fall apart. The only other thing that would hold a movie together would be the story. IR2's story is very bad and confusing.

If You Don't Switch Camera Angles You Get Home Video. That's What Makes Movies So Exciting To Watch, Because It Gives Director The Ability To Concentrate The VIewers' Attention On A Particular Piece Of Action.
Look, Super Fast DBZ/Matrix Action Is Just Too Fast For You. You Should Stick To UFC, I Somehow Think That You Would Like It Because It's Realistic With 2 Sweaty Dudes In Underware Hugging Slowly While The Camera Angle Never Changes. Face It: Kung Fu Movies Is Just Not Your Cup Of Tea.
Listen man. I agree that it is important for the camera angles to change, just not as wildly, and during scenes like the beginning fight scene. It seemed to change after every half a second. It was hard to tell who was kicking who. Its not my brain, that's just how bad it is. The rest of the fight scenes are ok but it was the beginning that made me turn it off the first time.
I really dont understand why you have to post such weird messages. Naked men hugging? Whats your problem?
You say that it's important for the angles to change because it gives to director the ability to concentrate on a certain piece of action. THIS IS TRUE!! but when the camera angles change as rapidly as does in this film, it makes it hard to do that. there's just no room for concentration. you make it sound like I dont want camera to change at all. Why?
Donnie Yen is a great action star and the fights are good, but the rest of the film is what ruins it.
The film is still crap. Everyone hates it. Donnie Yen even hates it. Crappy story-telling, crappy camera work, crappy direction, and even the fights are mediocre. Ive seen Donnie Yen do better. MUCH better. nothing you say will make this film any better.
-They Show You The Angle Just Enough Time For Your Brain To Process It.-
that's retarded. I don't want to watch kung-fu frame-by-frame. I want to see everything as its happening. How can you enjoy action that way? I'm not talking about the clip shown above. Obviously that one of the better fights in the film. But its not good enough to save the film as a whole. When the angles change that fast, that just tells me that the edited the shit out of it.

Fights Are Amazing, Camera Work Is Amazing, For Those Who Are Fast Enough To Follow.
Kung Fu Movies Aren't Known For Their Great Storylines To Begin With, So It's Unfair To Single Out This One Movie. Fights Are More Important For Kung Fu Movie Which This One Delivers.
Just Go Back To Watching Slower - Paced Home Video, Obviously Fast Fights Are Not For You.
We've allready been through this. Now you're just repeating yourself. Personally, I really don't care how fast the camera is moving. The movie was still crap. Like I said before, the fights were good. I never said that they weren't. But its the quality of the film that made it fail.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This Movie Has Some Minor Mistakes, Because The Sets Look A Little Cheap And Not Enough Camera Work, But It's Still The Best Kung Fu Movie By Far Because Of The Fights.
Honestly, Fights aren't everything in a kung fu movie. I mean, sure, they're essential. But unless the movie has good direction and story, the audience isn't going to have the patients to wait for the next fight scene. Fights can only carry the movie so far.
You're entitled to your opinion, but what you said is not an opinion. Its a statement. You could say it differently by saying I FEEL, or I BELIEVE, or I THINK, instead of saying that it "IS"
Reading comprehension was never your strong point, was it? o_o
Did you even understand my posts just a little bit? And you seem to have a hard time writing as well, since your posts dont make a whole lot of sense either.
I took the liberty of checking your user profile to see what kind of character I was dealing with, and when I scrolled down to take a look at your profile comments, I wasnt surprised to see that most of them, if not all, were all negative ones. I wonder why.
There are SO many other films out there that have great storylines, great cinematography and great action as well. You can't just like tag this movie as being the best by its fight scenes alone, because, like I said, The fights are nothing special to begin with. unless the movie has good direction and story, the audience isn't going to have the patients to wait for the next fight scene. And if the fights dont stand out to begin with. Then, I'm afraid...
why should donnie laugh about his old movies?they are his greatest movies with the best fighting scenes...

Bye
jayangli 1 year ago
@DooKNo1 All that popularity stuff is bull? lol. Isn't film show business? I did not say Donnie owes Jackie or Jet, your missing the point. I am saying he ain't no great martial artist, real fighter or great film star. I don't hate donnie, I just think he is crap most of the time. Like I said your a fan, a big fan, so again good luck for great donnie films to come. Yeah there were big stars in the 60s and 70s. Bruce lee. Only him, Jackie and Jet ever achieved international stardom. sigh. lol
jayangli 1 year ago
@DooKNo1 yeah he has made some good films but he was never as big as Jackie. Oh Donnie was so popular that he played the bad guy in a Jet Li movie lol. I know Donnie was popular in Hong Kong, but Jet and Jackie were superstars in Hong Kong before they went to the U.S. Sigh, you are just a Donnie fan lol. I don't see the point in this debate, so if you like I will let you win. He is everything you say he is. Good luck
jayangli 1 year ago
@DooKNo1 how is donnie such a great martial artist? I don't rate a movie star as some real fighter. And just because he has now made some good films in the dried up hong kong film business. Also because super stars such as Jet and Jackie have left hongkong to make films in the U.S, Donnie would never get this much focus if they had not. lol. I do not think he is overpraised at all.
jayangli 1 year ago
@DooKNo1 well Billy was not some competition fighter on points, he was a real ring fighter. Donnie is an actor
jayangli 1 year ago
@DooKNo1 Billy chow has been a champion in hongkong and was fighting and winning in the ring in his forties. full contact that using elbow also. donnie is an actor
jayangli 1 year ago
Wow, I stumble over this clip again and second time I'll say it, horrid film.. You see Donnie yen and Billy Chow and think' fuck yeah, should be good!'? ehhh negative, abismal and not only because of the ridiculous sped up fights.
Wouldn't waste your time watching this unless you like to see their whole filmographies.
Seany06 1 year ago
I never did like Donnie Yen's director style with the fights, I know it was a style to speed some things up a little, but this just overdoes it and it's like that in almost all his movies. Just bad camera work, serious physics fails, poor endings, poor hits, just stupid...only way to put it, stupid.
Opalance 1 year ago
@Opalance
Totally agree with you, just all in all a horrible fight scene...thank god Donnie moved away from that in his recent films....i guess back then he was trying to differentiate his style from Jet Li and Jackie Chan

I think many of you guys don't know who Billy is. In real fight, He can KO Donnie in Minutes. Please don't even mention Jacky Chan. Jacky Chan is just an actor.
vampirejyd 2 years ago
i agree billy chow is much better than that
stormtiger92 2 years ago
c'mon now i really don't think he can K.O. Donnie in five minutes but he does look like he can fight very well. Jackie Chan is more like an acrobat consider he grew up with sammo Hung but he jumps around too much and seems to tire his enemy out more then fight them but he does know some shit.
CrimesonWitcher 2 years ago
Billy is a former kickboxing champion from Canada. Jacky Chan is just an actor, so how can these two compare? Donnie maybe can fight a bit, but comparing their sizes, it will be Handicap..
vampirejyd 2 years ago

If I could move like those guys in this film, I wouldn't need guns or swords. Hong Kong action films could make such OFF THE WALL fighting scenes. It seems like everything a character kicks or punches in a hong kong flick gets shattered like styrofoam or hard plastic.
CTDash 2 years ago
I don't know man, lol. I think no matter what, if we end up in some of the most dangerous places we're going to face people with guns. So even if you had a gun it wouldn't matter, it's still going to be a pretty bad situation lol. That's the thing nowadays =\, even in Lee's later interviews he admitted that he wouldn't go around picking fights because of guns. It wouldn't matter how good you are at fighting, just one pop and you're gone lol. Stupid guns >=(.

Iron Monkey 2 Is The Best Kung Fu Movie. Period.
It's Far Better Than Because We Don't Need Another 100 Movies Set In Ancient China.
Tadddius 2 years ago
It's not about the setting of the film. Its about movie quality. the quality of this film was by far the worst. The cinematography was awful, and the camera angles change way too fast to even know what's going on. And the frame-rate is tweaked just a tad too high and makes the rest of the film feel fake. This film was a major flop. It didn't do well in China let alone anywhere else. And its not Donnie Yen's fault or Yuen Woo Ping's fault. the blame belongs the crew that edited the film.
joshrchanfan 2 years ago

Tadddius 2 years ago
Im sure that if you did your research on the film, then you would know that the whole movie was filmed within two weeks. And yes, the cinematography was AWFUL! Theres no way around that. It doesnt matter if I know film-making or not. Theres no way you can film a quality movie in two weeks. And a crazy amount of changing camera angles equals laziness when it comes to action. Its not just me saying this. The Box Office also hates this film. IR1 compared to IR2. Theres a HUGE difference.
joshrchanfan 2 years ago

Tadddius 2 years ago
Whats your problem?
joshrchanfan 2 years ago
You say that it's important for the angles to change because it gives to director the ability to concentrate on a certain piece of action. THIS IS TRUE!! but when the camera angles change as rapidly as does in this film, it makes it hard to do that. there's just no room for concentration. you make it sound like I dont want camera to change at all. Why?
Donnie Yen is a great action star and the fights are good, but the rest of the film is what ruins it.

Maybe You Should Smoke Less Crack, If It Slows Down Your Concentration So Much That You Can't Follow The Fight.
This Movie's Fights Are The Best Because They Show You The Angle Just Enough Time For Your Brain To Process It.
I Only Seen This Type Of Effect When I Was Watching The Matrix, It's Truly Astounding.
If Your Too Slow Don't Blame The Movie.
In Fact I Think The Movie Could Have Benefited More If They Add Some More Fast Angles.
Tadddius 2 years ago
Whatever you said.
*Shrugs*
The film is still crap. Everyone hates it. Donnie Yen even hates it. Crappy story-telling, crappy camera work, crappy direction, and even the fights are mediocre. Ive seen Donnie Yen do better. MUCH better. nothing you say will make this film any better.
joshrchanfan 2 years ago
And what you said makes no sense at all.
When the angles change that fast, that just tells me that the edited the shit out of it.
joshrchanfan 2 years ago

Fights Are Amazing, Camera Work Is Amazing, For Those Who Are Fast Enough To Follow.
Kung Fu Movies Aren't Known For Their Great Storylines To Begin With, So It's Unfair To Single Out This One Movie. Fights Are More Important For Kung Fu Movie Which This One Delivers.
Just Go Back To Watching Slower - Paced Home Video, Obviously Fast Fights Are Not For You.
Tadddius 2 years ago
We've allready been through this. Now you're just repeating yourself. Personally, I really don't care how fast the camera is moving. The movie was still crap. Like I said before, the fights were good. I never said that they weren't. But its the quality of the film that made it fail.

This Movie Has Some Minor Mistakes, Because The Sets Look A Little Cheap And Not Enough Camera Work, But It's Still The Best Kung Fu Movie By Far Because Of The Fights.
Tadddius 2 years ago
Honestly, Fights aren't everything in a kung fu movie. I mean, sure, they're essential. But unless the movie has good direction and story, the audience isn't going to have the patients to wait for the next fight scene. Fights can only carry the movie so far.
You're entitled to your opinion, but what you said is not an opinion. Its a statement. You could say it differently by saying I FEEL, or I BELIEVE, or I THINK, instead of saying that it "IS"
Because, lets face it, its not the best.
